what sets apart games apart from other goods(say, cars) is that it's intellectual property. if you copy someone else's game his game just doesn't vanish into thin air. with one copy of a game you can make an infinite number of games

that's why games are shared-if you "purchase" a game on steam then valve decides to share their copy with you. if you torrent a game the game is shared among the pirate community.

consolekeks have been brainwashed by marketing to think by buying a """physical copy""" of a game you own it. you don't. you own a cardboard box which is pretty and collectible i guess but you don't own the games itself

hope this fiasco wakes you up to how intellectual rights work.

They need discs since their platforms are usually locked down DRM online check dogshit paperweights, it's the last saving grace and a reason to keep buying new consoles.

For physical consoles and collectors its more about the physical ritual of having a case on the shelf with the media inside of it having the ability to launch the game on the console. The seamless experience that consoles bring.

What consoles forget is that its still locked down DRM where as on PC its freedom to own the files. PC is the future and linux/steamOS is the future.

Disc as a method to launch/install games is antiquated and old. Discs/Carts were only used because of physical limitations.

Nowadays just use something like zaparoo tied to steam with NFC small stickers inside your physical custom made PC case, then crack your steam games and burn the .iso to a disc. Boom you now have a functional piece of media that just werks.

Don't use the term Intellectual property, it's newspeak used to confuse laymen by making it impossible to talk about the collection of licenses it refers to without associating it with untrue ideas (it is neither exclusively intellectual work nor is it property), as well as to confuse the privileges, obligations, scope, etc. of patent, copyright and trademark licenses.
Just refer to it as software.

And these companies have constantly demonstrated that physical media is not an impediment. These consoles need firmware updates and a lot of their games need patches, so they need to be connected to the internet, which lets companies fuck with you just as much as they would with digital downloads. There is no reason to buy new consoles, there is no way for you to not use a dogshit DRM paperweight.

Actual Frogs are French and live in the EU, so they would know that perpetual, single-seat software licenses in the EU are subject to the principle of exhaustion (or first sale doctrine) REGARDLESS of whether they are communicated via a physical carrier or a digital download. This was established in the UsedSoft vs. Oracle case and was dragged all the way to the European Court of Justice for reasons that are probably obvious based on the names of the companies.
Based Germans.

It's a computer you don't own that takes away the limited control they were forced to give you.
Delisting and removing content is routine for multimedia companies like Sony.

while it may be stupid, and the points are valid, Sony’s behavior is not, didnt they lately

>block content
>remove content
>denied refunds
>be subjects of multiple and strong cyberattacks, attacking directly (you)r account
>arbitrary manipulation of prices

so, why would I trust anything sony says? Because they have GTA6 2 days early?
