The most linear trash Zelda, everything feels on-rails especially the combat with the shitty lock-on and camera angles, the controls has less freedom than other Zelda, it feels more like prompt based or QTE like reaction type shit. Even the wolf controls are on-rail QTE platforming shit. Ubisoft type big ass button prompts on the screen. Ugly as fuck character design. Ugly colors. Poop brown palette. The wolf is a blunted swiss army knife, it does everything but nothing efficiently. It's not too bad when the game keeps its use to like 5 minute long sections, tops. The problem is when the game forces it onto you for like 30-60 minutes as a time, which is a big part of why the game's first third drags. I'll say that I liked how it was good for snow traversal in Snowpeak, being a nimble wolf in the mountains is cool. Aside from that, very middling mechanic at best, and a braindead boring one at worst. I've still never beaten the Cave of Shadows in HD because it's just Ordeals but with the wolf, so it sucks.

But Link is almost never actually a good character with his own believable motivations and personality. In fact the entire Zelda franchise is awful at creating complex characters with significant development or nuance. In that respect Midna is one of the only good characters to ever come out of the Zelda series, which really helps TP as a game. Yeah TP Zelda is even blander than average Zelda already is, but it was a worthwhile sacrifice.
It would have been cool if TP committed better to Zant's role in the story or at least made the transition to Ganon more developed. The final scene with Zant seemingly breaking his own neck to finish Ganon off was really cool, but the characters had literally no interaction in the story otherwise.

Sure, but at a price. The role of the Triforce itself, of Link, Zelda and Ganon, have never felt more "second fiddle". And sure, it does speak to the questionable merit of that observation that Midna and Zant are two of the more interesting characters to have graced the series, but all the same you'd think the bread and butter characters wouldn't feel like the supporting act to their own show.

No one is playing 3D Zelda for difficulty, save maybe Majora's Mask. They play it for the spectacle, and in that regard Twilight Princess excels. The aesthetics stand out, but as for the fundamentals it's a sheer display of developer expertise. They absolutely know how to craft a variety of dungeoning experiences (half of TP's dungeons don't even emphasize puzzles), and for as structurally formulaic as they can be from a bird's eye view the devs definitely know how to pace and piecemeal their gameplay ideas at this point. I would maybe say MM and SS have a contender or two for deeper dungeons, but none of them have a 5-dungeon run like TP does from Lakebed to City in the Sky, and Snowpeak in particular rivals good 2D dungeons without caveat.
