Well /v/, is THIS the best space game out there?
>>
>>743360167
Depends on what you're looking for. If you want mountain blade style then yes obviously. If you want some strategic or immersive then no.
>>
its a good one. i enjoyed playing that one mod faction with the little red mechas. i had my 2nd in command man my flagship while i got to harass and dick around in a speedy little guy as my crew's ace. fun. matter of fact i think i might play again now.
>>
I haven't been able to get back into this since I played a bunch when I found it years ago but I had a ton of fun
>>
>>743360167
for me, it's The Ur-Quan Masters
>>
>>743360167
I must have gotten something like 1200 hours out of it. Currently waiting for the next update before I do another playthrough.
Wish they would do something about anything besides High Tech or LP fleets being boring.

What about X4?
>>
>>743360167
depends
>>
>>743360167
If you completely ignore the story, yes.
>>
I actually discovered it a month ago and as a Mountain Blade fan enjoyed it a lot.
But it got kinda stale after colonizing my first planets. I hope the Extended Mode is cool.

KSP and learning about orbital mechanics ruined space games for me
>>
>>743360715
Probably want a small community to test all the content against and find all the bugs first so it has a clean an full launch once they do put it on Steam. Basically everyone that buys it now is just beta testing for the wide release
>>
>>743360895
It's been in early access for 14 years
>>
>>743360941
There you go. Often games will release, some kind of game breaking bug is found or the content is lacking. Then it gets review bombed to hell. They're never able to get peoples trust back. So why not iron it all out ahead of time. That and they probably don't want to lose 30% on every sale, even though the global launch would probably make them filthy rich
>>
>>743360838
that would be the worst thing to happen to this game considering previous versions and their respective mods, the game is already feature complete
just add a donation box to accounts who bought it in case people that got more value relative to the box price want to give more money
>>
>>743361017
Will they give steam codes to the people that buy it off their website?
>>
>>743361061
DRM free too.

the developer is a control freak, like most developers who avoid going to Steam. in one of the previous releases, when cracking open the .jar so I could crack it, he had a multi-paragraph all-caps rant about pirates and how they're ruining his livelihood in the file that you would previously replace to crack it. didn't stop me.
but I have since bought it. still funny though.

>>
>>743361216
and Vintage Story would be 500% better if they had the Steam Workshop instead of their own dogshit modding framework (wouldn't make the game itself any better though)
>>
>>743360842
based and RP-1pilled
I completely fucked everything up financially (first proper playthrough) and so I'm miles behind NASA, but oh well, I'll catch up in the 50 years they did literally nothing. Also set myself the challenge of not using hydrolox and being 10 years behind on ORSC engines. I'm currently X405maxxing, I love that engine.
>>743361542
not that guy, principia seems cool but too much hassle (and my computer sucks, I presume it's gonna cause problems with hundreds of satellites flying about). Also needing to manually maintain the orbits of so many satellites is too autistic for me.
>>
>>743361167
>shitload of money
The black jew's video from 2019 already did that for them. Main dev said he doesn't have to work a job anymore.
>100 trillion times more popular
Popularity isn't the boon you think it is, making me believe you're probably underage.

There are mods for it but I'd like it more if the central region was more populated, spread out and that smaller planets and outposts would swap hands between the factions. Also wish there was less randomness at the start when it came to obtaining loans, missions, or ship manufacturing.
>>
>>743362381
If your ship isn't using a pather loadout you're a fag.
>>
>>743360167
It has the best combat system of any space game bar none, but overall the game is kind of shit. Still fun for a while before the overall shittyness starts to wear on you.
>>
>>743360167
i really like starsector its so tasteful and intelligently made i like the industrial art style of the ships they look like their made from actual materials welded together that have to function to work instead of "in the future everything is advanced" aesthetic of most other space games. the only thing is the updates can take a while but its probably not easy to finish a game like that with only 1-2 people working on it

UAF is so ridiculously imbalanced. It's probably the strongest collection of ships you could unreasonably put in to this game. This stupid thing in particular and its broadside will erase entire endgame fleets by itself, and it has seemingly infinite flux to do whatever it wants. I don't know what the author is thinking with this faction besides uwu kawaii mary sue waifus that are so quirky and love to eat chocolate cakes.

Another pet peeve of mine is that they have not just one, but TWO ideal Terran worlds right next to each other. This is extremely stupid. EVERY fucking mod maker seems to want their super special faction to be on an ideal Terran world. It's so unrealistic.

Onslaught is the single strongest ship in the entire game. The issue with low tech is the gap between the 'slaught and everything else in the roster (Legion being the exception even though carriers in general are fucking asswater) is so colossal the latter might as well not even exist.

When the FUCK are we getting another decent space game?
>>
>>743360167
It's the very best at what it is
>>
>>743360167
No, it's the epitome of what do you do though.
You just fight space ships, the RP side of things is abysmal.
t. quit twice playing the tutorial
>>
It's a spaceship looter shooter with a few inconsequential systems on the side.
Not bad. Some people talk about meta this and that but it's a role-playing game at the end of the day.
Build a whole fleet of militarized passenger ships if you want. It's nice that you even have the option to.
>>
>>743362089

>>
>>743364209
Is it actually good? I don't usually expect much of out of this wave of 'spooky lovecraft!' games
>>
games not tactical enough in my eyes
>>
>>743362025
>Also needing to manually maintain the orbits of so many satellites is too autistic for me.
So you install kOS and write software to do it for you!
>>
>>743362930
I install UAF so I can buttblast these overpowered OC ships with lowtech and then Rapesector their OC characters.
>>
>>743360167
I like it. I enjoy X4 more though. But both games have their own set of issues, still waiting for the perfect space game.
>>
>>743362930
Why do you care so much? Just ignore it and not install. Plenty seem to enjoy it.
>>
>>743362089
I didn't realize just how insanely suboptimal shuttle was until I played KSP with RSS, they could launch triple the payload for quarter of the price without any crew to endanger
>>
>>743366319
Tormenting people like (You) serves a purpose.
>>
>>743366461
Yeah, without bs like logistics, political pressures, DOD commitments etc, the shuttle was overall inferior to the S5 in most ways. But I guess space + plane = cool I guess
>>
>>743366461
shuttle was a great way to employ a lot of people in a lot of states to do things and satisfy air force autism, but not a great way to do literally anything else. If we'd kept building the Saturn V with literally no improvements til now we'd be far better off in many ways compared to the million failed programs including shuttle. But of course everyone knows this at this point.
>>
>>743360167
Gets boring pretty fast, but I think that's just me. Mods make it much more enjoyable.
>>
>>743366461
You should play career mode and RP as Soviets and make the 'Everyone will be like Gagarin/Titov' a reality. So affordable space travel for any pleb kerbal
>>
>>743360167
How does it compare Battle Brothers, do u also have late game crisis and other fun stuff like hunting for unique weapons, challenging bosses etc or its just more of the same once u get out of hobo phase?
>>
>>743366965
The best I can do is making everyone like Jarvis and Resnik.
>>
>>743360167
The only thing that has been stopping me from pulling the trigger on this motherfucker would be if he ever decided to port it over to Steam, and fuck over the DRM free version by either stop updating it, or not giving Steam CD Keys to people who've already bought it
>>
>>743366965
It was over a decade ago, I spent my entire summer break playing KSP, I haven't played it since, there is probably a ton of new mods now I could try

did baikal gaslight you or something? never saw the paragon? the ziggurat?
>>
>>743360779
How?
>>
>>743367846
Onslaught smacks those two ships by a long shot. It just has too much armor tank. Paragon especially has a bad matchup.
>>
>>743360167
>2d
nope X4 moggs
>>
>>743366965
>>743362025
I play RP-1 as the North Koreans and enjoy imagining how much pants shitting our engineers have when a rocket fails to make it to Japan (we didn't research upgraded tanks yet)
>>
>>743361370
>multi-paragraph all-caps rant about pirates and how they're ruining his livelihood in the file
That'd be funny since that one guy who gave the game all that attention and broke the website it was sold on from sheer traffic also included his own key in the video for people to play it for free.
>>
How do i into combat? I can do a 1v1 or 2v1 easy enough but any big battle and my guys all suicide

you wouldn't get it
>>
>>743364872
It is entirely made by the /v/lancer dev and includes a bunch of elements from it.
>>
Honestly the most fun I’ve had with it is playing with the Java api and data folder. It’s a really fun modding playground, more so than the game itself, which is still like a lot.
>>
>>743370026
Autopilot and go grab a coffee
>>
>>743364872
The same guy that did /v/lancer, trainwiz, is the sole dev behind underspace.
>>
>>743366965
I'm considering in my current save to try using 1 man spacecraft more. Mercury capsules on tiny rockets going to a space station sounds like a funny idea.
>>
>>743370026
i pilot a small fast ship to harass and split the enemy force up to break their grouping. assign support to the flagship and have it defend a point or take a beacon while you kite smaller ships that can keep up and do your 1v1 or 2v1

>>
>>743370026
Assign escorts. AI is suicidal because they try to get into the range for their non-PD weapons. So frigates try to close the gap on anything bigger than themselves and die from getting outranged and tanking 500 missiles. Giving the AI longer range weapons helps them. AI is also crazy with burn drives and plasma burns so be wary of that. Or just embrace Ludd and unga bunga by flying safety override pather ships.
>>
>>743362930
Don't like it then don't install it. It's a mod.
