With Half-Life 3 I don't think you want to over-fixate on innovation. He's right that just like a map pack with old gameplay wouldn't be enough, but hl alyx despite being "fresh" isnt what i wouldve wanted out of hl3. I think you need to mix new and old, a faster gameplay pace like hl1 but with puzzle-y gameplay mechanics sounds pretty good to me, like the orignal hl tagling was "run think shoot"
