You DO create your own game music, right anon?

How you even make game music with suno, I only ever make gangsta rap about a green alien harassing warwick davis
>>
Yes... It is a nice skill to have, is it not..? Perhaps you should try making music, too.
>>
>>743365394
too retarded to pirate FL Studio (too lazy)
>>
>>743365394
Yeah, but it's pretty bad. Still have lots to learn.
>>
>>743365589
Suno sucks for vidya music I cant get it to make an 8-bit NES style song without it adding real guitars and drums
>>
VCV rack or the Cardinal fork is just more fun and frankly makes more sense in my mind. But I'm not making anything for video games

why would you use Suno when gemini does it just fine?
https://files.catbox.moe/gc8doo.mp3
>>
Problem is that I can do JUST the music and nothing more
>>
How would I go about learning how to music? Like how to conceptually create a sick track based on general ideological themes. Is that something that can be taught, or is it one of those "if you don't get it instinctively you aren't going to get it" deals?
>>
>>743370275
Keep practicing and learning. Hope you don't get burnt
>>
>>743365589
AI IS FOR PORN NOT CREATIVE OUTLETS
>>
>>743370275
Just start with scales and a little music theory. Don't jump in head first. Dip your toes into theory. It's just about understanding what a key is, it's important, everything inside, the 8 keys and their intervals. How you drive the emotion of the song is based entirely around all that. And yea just practice your scales. You'll never guess your way through creating music. Well you can, it just takes ages longer

Very very few people are either tone deaf or have perfect pitch. Otherwise, you're like everyone else.
>>
>>743365589
I'd feel too much shame using this.
>>
>>743371956
You are too much in your own theoretical ass hippie
>>
>>743370275
I started by dragging around notes in ableton live till they sounded good. Zero understanding of theory or anything, and those tracks actually went really far and got me some real international attention.
I picked up theory later, but if you have good taste you can just judge whether it sounds like shit or not as you go. Just have fun man it the most abstract art form there is
>>
>>743370275
Choose a program, FL, Ableton, whatever. Learn how it works first. After you know what each thing does, you will eventually figure out how to do what you want, what you can do with the plugins, what vst you might want for the music you are trying to make, etc.
Though, actually having the inspiration to make good, catchy music is another thing. That is inherently not learned, you are more or less born with the passion, or it finds you in some way.
>>
>>743374687
Seconding this. Specifically the part about having fun. If the process itself is not fun for you, you are not gonna go anywhere, well, at least not far.
>>
>>743371956
I recommend doing the complete opposite, you learn by leaving your comfort zone and fucking up a million times, not by practicing the basics for 10,000 hours. Spend only a few hours learning the basics, then spend countless hours aimlessly experimenting, and when you find something that sounds good, capitalize on it as much as possible. The only true rule is whether it sounds good, nothing else fucking matters.
>>
>>743370275
1. Pick up an instrument.
2. Read about theory, ESPECIALLY about the harmonic functions of chords.
3. Fuck around with your instrument of choice.
4. Pick things that sounds good.
???
Profit!
>>
>>743374687
My best stuff was a result of just retardedly messing around until I found something that sounded good by sheer chance. I'm not Mozart, I can't compose a perfect symphony from start to finish in my head, I'm just a retard with a pirated DAW, it doesn't make sense to act like I'm capable of the former.
>>
>buy new synth
>the line output is just pure fucking crackle and I have no idea why
Pain. At least the headphone port works, I guess.

What's a "chord"?
>>
>>743375383
I keep seeing advice to start with a recorder. Is that what a recorder is? A flute? How do you chose which to buy?
>>
>>743375552
>start with
Nah, anon. Just pick the instrument that appeals to you the most.
>>
>>743375693
I'm on a very tight budget (minimum wage in Russia). I found some recorders online that cost less than a pizza, so I'm wondering if it's useful for learning the basics.
>>
>>743375552
Recorders are a fucking meme, don't bother, they are extremely limited in what you can actually play with them.
The other anon is right about picking what appeals to you the most. If you pick an instrument that's common in the music you like, you will find yourself much more motivated to actually learn things, I guarantee.
>>
>>743375552
Gget a plastic one for 50 bucks and up I'd say they sound really good.
Listen to the different kinds of recorder. And some music stores like Thomann have samples for instruments. The one in the image is an alto recorder. YRA-322B. Which is larger and bassier. Sounds much better than the squeaky soprano.
This particular one has a very clean sound. Others are more airy and almost detuned sounding. Listen around to find the style you prefer. I like the clean ones.

Also you want to get one with baroque fingering, not german. German is a simplified scheme to make one simple note easier. But fucks with all the flats and sharps more or less.

>>743375782
Do not get a super cheap one. Get an intermediate one like the Yamahas instead.
And as >>743375693 says. Get the instrument which actually appeals to you. I listened to a lot of instruments and found that profesionally played recorder sounds amazing. I'm only just good enough to enjoy it however.
>>
>>743376054
>Get an intermediate one like the Yamahas instead.
Is YRS-23 okay?
>Get the instrument which actually appeals to you.
That would probably be a keyboard. Can they be affordable?
>>
>>743376293
>Can they be affordable?
A midi keyboard will cost you 50 bucks, and you can get pianoteq or a fancier sampled instrument VST for free.
>>
>>743376293
There are tons of cheap MIDI keyboards available, and they are a million times more versatile than a recorder.
>>
>have 2.5k worth of music gear in front of me
>can barely play the first few bars of the mario theme
Money well spent.
>>
>>743376553
Same, but with MtG cards.
>>
>>743376293
I'd still say to get one with baroque instead of german fingering. Which the YRS-23 has.
Get for one of YRS-302, 302B or 324B if you want a soprano if you can. They're just about double the price but still cheap.

Also do listen to both alto and soprano pieces for the recorder. Alto sounds so much better.
>>
>>743365589
I curse the likes of you. I can't get any good free BGM for my project anymore because everywhere is flooded with shitty AI music. at least make something decent.

>harmonic functions
To elaborate on this, check this shit out:
https://musictheory.pugetsound.edu/mt21c/HarmonicFunction.html
Essentially most western scales have 7 notes in them. One is the tonic - your key, and the others are defined by their relation to it. Every chord has it's own function. They can create or release tension, or they can imply an upcoming chord. Once you realize it, and start to notice it in the music you listen to, you will become keenly aware of why songs use certain progressions, of how common certain progression are and of how do artists handle even the same or similar progressions in different ways.
Being aware of and analyzing the harmonic layer of songs is extremely important to composing, but also to a more active and critical listening experience in general. I cannot stress enough how much this can help you appreciate music more.

Do the Toby Fox method - find a snippet of an existing song you like, then remix around it.
>>
Should I buy an electronic piano if I wanna learn to play keys properly? Sounds like a good idea if you can plug in headphones and not disturb the neighbours. I hope there are cheaper ones...
>>
>>743365589
spbp
>>
>>743378197
Electric pianos are great if you have the money. Keyboards work, too. Any is fine for learning, but if you can spend a little more money would recommend at least getting one with weighted keys.
>>
>>743378389
I think I've got a MIDI keyboard. It's got like 4 octaves. I worry that it might be fine for DAWs but not fine to actually learn to play properly. Might be overthinking, though.
>>
No. Music and art just seem like impossible to learn black magic to me. I’ve never been able to make any real progress with either.

I think I’m just fundamentally not a creative person.
>>
>>743378497
4 octaves is pretty small, you'll run out of room pretty fast if you want to play anything beyond simple pop/rock shit. 5 would be about the minimum, if you've got the space you might as well get a full 88 keys though.

because Google AI is shit.
even if you can create an okay end result I can't use it knowing that they have heavy diversity/fairness weights in place.
sure they are masking it nowadays in order to compete but the devs are still there, it's the same company, and you don't know what other restrictions they have in place.

No but people do say my music i make sounds like video game music. Unless its absent or horrible why wouldnt i just listen to their soundtrack. Do you mean for self developed games?
>>
>>743370275
If I would learn I would pick a song I liked and try to recreate it in FruityLoops.
First the percussion and then something else and so forth.
>>
>>743373320
>few
You mean many if not most? It's why rap/nigger/beats/pop "music" is so popular. If you think about it, modern "music" barely has any variation and the goy cattle LOVES it.

Here's a piece I wrote. I like making rag time music recently. This one has some romantic and classical influence. Not a video game track per se but definitely inspired by video game moods with gaming being my main hobby besides music. Not sure I really hit the mark with the first motif but I really like the other three. The last one could be used as some sort of celebratory march I think.

I actually have no idea how to start with that. I only messed around with Bosca Ceoil because it had everything in it already.

It's literally worse than pirating FL Studio
>>
>>743365394
worthless skill. there are like millions of people who will score your game for peanuts. why waste any of your blood on it? you’re not going to become koji kondo or nobuo uematsu by dicking around in fruity loops either.

About 20 years on and off, don't practice nearly as much as I should. Took lessons as a teenager and got grades 5 and 7 and then didn't have time when I went to university. I can't play most of my own pieces without multiple takes.

Here's another, this one is the first rag time style piece I wrote so it's a little more juvenile but perhaps more gamey too https://vocaroo.com/14SC58Tq0xln
