There's mods and a decent enough weapon variety to switch weapons depending on the situation, but it's kinda just there. The variety help lend itself to different roleplay styles, which is what makes NV a good roleplaying game. Everything is viable enough to get you through the entire game, whether you're melee only, a sniper, a grenade spammer, or a revolver using cowboy.
