Which video game enemy/creature would make the most terrifying zombie, if they were to be taken over by a Headcrab from Half-Life?
>>743367865> Haha got your. . head?
>>743367579the zombies are downgrades to the existing form
>>743367579Is there a lore reason why headcrabs only take over humans if they're from a different dimension? Humans aren't their natural prey so what is?
>>743367865Don't think so, headcrabs require a head and brain to take over a host. It's kinda in the name.Beheaded kamikazes are controlled by a central computer somewhere IIRC.Besides, hl1 headcrab zombies are slow and stiff, they clearly have trouble controlling humans. Maybe fast headcrabs from 2(likely altered by combine to control human bodies better) would be more terrifying, but then again when those zombies run they clearly use their arms, I feel like they'd just explode when the bombs touch the ground.
>>743368492I don't think there is an actual canon reason given. I presume that headcrabs had some sort of vaguely humanoid prey animal that they would take over in their home world / Xen. Its evident from the existence of Vortigaunts and Race X that humanoid aliens are a possibility.
Headcrab hydra
>>743369573'Tis a shame the Hydra was cut from HL2. It would've been pretty cool

Forget about headcrabs, how about a FUCKING BLOB.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwT3Bwyw5iA
>>743367865>Acts like a traditional zombie at first.>Shoot off the headcrab.>Mental's original programming instantly kicks back in, unexpectedly turns back into a headless kamikaze and rushes the player to throw off the usual strategy of aiming for the head.
>>743368492From what I remember Xen isn't exactly a natural habitat for any species, it's more like a gap between dimensions where some species ended up when their own worlds ended, or that was the case for Nihilanth/alien controllers/Vortigaunts(enslaved).They don't exactly interact with anything from Xen. Houndeyes, bullsquids, and such don't exactly have heads they could take over. Gargantuas and tentacles are just too big. Alien controllers' heads are probably too big. That leaves Vortigaunts and alien grunts, and we've never seen a headcrabbed Vort. In fact I think we've never even seen a Vort fight a headcrab in the original. And 2 sucks Vorts off too much. They seem more like they're at the rock bottom of the food chain, since almost everything seems to eat them instead. So it's most likely that they had /some/ sort of host back in their original world, probably human shaped, and coincidentally with similar nervous system/brain. This would explain why they're so hostile and jump-happy when they see humans. The Gonarch seems interesting to me, since it shows that headcrabs have the ability to eventually grow to massive sizes, probably after taking over that mysterious humanoid alien prey and eating a massive amount of food which allows them to grow that breeding sac. It also has a hole on the top and on the bottom, so I think their original hosts may have a mouth somewhere near the bottom, instead of tearing one in the chest like they do with humans.Note that hl2 doesn't have any Gonarchs anywhere, even in places that are shown to be taken over by zombies and abandoned like Ravenholm. There should be enough time and food available to see at least one, right? In fact, now that I think about it I believe they actually can't do that because they're just a bit too incompatible with human biology. We also don't see any Gonomes(which would appear as a nice middle point between zombie and Gonarch state), which leads me to believe they're actually non-canon.
>>743370925>In fact, now that I think about it I believe they actually can't do that because they're just a bit too incompatible with human biology.Curse the character limit.I wanted to say that they can't turn into Gonarchs with a human host because they're a bit too incompatible.
>>743370925This makes sense. I hope that if we ever get anything new from the Half-Life series they flesh out Xen and the aliens a bit more
