>Developer you hate has games you like
What's her name?
>>
Ubisoft
Bandai Namco
Not a fan of modern PDS and I don't like their recent games, but I'm not sure if I actually hate them. They've still not done anything as egregious as the two mentioned above.
>>
Why is Paradox getting so much negative press in the last couple of years? Have they actually gotten so bad?

Borderlands continues to be one of my favourite series, even if 3 and 4 weren't that great

But greasy randy offends me on a spiritual level
>>
>>743368990
their dlc policy is basically microtransactions at this point
>>

None.
If I hate them, it's because I hate their games.

They're incredibly greedy and aggressive with their DLC's resulting in most of their games having well over +200 dollars worth of DLC that ranges from actual content to the equivalent of horse armor.
Basically jews.

“Hate” might be too strong a word, but it’s obnoxious how IO Interactive has the scummiest, most anti-consumer friendly business practices imaginable, yet their actual games are outstanding. The fact they make good games is the only reason they’ve gotten away with being so scummy.

because their games are empty as fuck and you need 300+ eurodollars worth of dlc's and expansions to make them decent

Greed and never ending bullshit. EU5 is pretty much peak paradox in shittery. The game has all these systems but there's nothing to really do. They took the people asking for a sandbox seriously and nobody actually wants that except retards. They have to relearn the wheel EVERY release.
I just want to mention HoI3 ended its lifecycle looking like a wargame and HoI4 didn't even have fuel or even the concept of impassable terrain. The latter they learned for HoI3 was bad but did it again anyway. HoI4 still doesn't have stockpiles so if you can't suddenly find a material you've used problem free for years you're just expected to roll over.

I loved the gunplay and combat on 3. Was an absolute blast. Haven't played 4 though.

>release broken and incomplete games
>charge money for fixes

Vicky 3's and Eu5's launches were bad. Let's not even get in the rome game's launch. Their games get worse and worse.

I like AOW 4 and hope it never stops.

There's a lot of different issues at play. To start off with: their games were always unfinished on release. Whereas EU3 only got about three or four expansions to fix and somewhat flesh out the game, EU4 was so successful that they effectively kept working on it and changing things for more than 10 years after release, collecting DLC payments along the way. As someone who still plays EU4, I think that the game is in a really good state right now compared to some of the previous patches. CK2 and HOI4 are similar in that they had close to a decade of work put into them. Right now, PDS is in a situation where their new titles have to compete with their old titles.

CK3 managed to justify its existence with vastly improved graphics, better UI, different but coherent visual style, characters 3D models, more emphasis on RP, etc. I don't really like that game, but it was successful, that's for sure.

Victoria 3 was a disaster. It was leaked in the beta because one of the testers was so disappointed with it. For some godforsaken reason they thought they had to put the 3D models from CK3 into this game, except they look more silly. IMO shouldn't be present in a title that's not character-focused. Then they had the genius idea to break with DECADES of their legacy and make a game where you don't control your army, and wars are being fought more or less automatically with you only being able to somewhat influence the outcome. This is also their first game where the visual style and UI took a nosedive.

Now onto EU5. It was in development for a long time, but was still released only somewhat finished. The project aims were extremely ambitious and the game just collapses under the weight of its own vision in many ways. EU4 was a fun board game. EU5 aims to be a historical simulation. It's easier to make a fun board game than a realistic AND fun historical simulation. EU5 has a lot of issues, and the pace of addressing them is really slow. Some got addressed with bandaid fixes that made the game even worse and had to be rolled back. Performance is bad, I imagine a lot of people stuck with EU4 simply because EU5 runs poor on their PC. 1337 start date was a mistake, in addition to spending a large chunk of the campaign in late middle ages and making expansion slower (historical accuracy!) performance in PDS games always tanks the longer a campaign last, and the combination of those issues makes it so most players run out of motivation before the Reformation even starts in 1500s. 3D models are here, too, and they look better than in Vic3, but on the other hand, the UI is the worst it's ever been.

A few years ago, PDS got split into several studios, each one for managing a different game series. A lot of the old guard are gone and many new developers just don't have the talent, work ethic, and knowledge about legacy systems like the Clausewitz engine to replace them. The members of the old guard who are still there seem to be more keen on enjoying their work-retirement in comfy Mediterranean countries than making games.

The company is publicly-traded now and the people who make decisions think extremely short-term, happily running it into the ground to claim their quarterly bonuses.

Gunplay in 4 is even better than 3, especially seeing as manufacturer gimmicks can now roll on parts, so you could get a vladof smg that shoots torgue rockets

The only thing you do is change laws (always to the same exact laws because there's only one way to play

Is Paradox the worst for retards not being able to understand what a publisher is?
