If we're being honest, it didn't. It still has a tremendous botting issue where all early and mid-game locations are botted. Okay great, they get banned much more quickly. They are still directly impacting your experience.This is why I unironically prefer RS3. There are just no fucking bots. And even if there were, Rs3 has essentially removed resource competition besides competing for mob spawns.

According to a lot of reports botting is at a historic low, due to 2 reasons. Earlier this year Jagex updated their bot detection and it began banning bots much faster, before they could even make a profit cutting into botter's bottom lines. The other big below is just in the past few weeks Jagex sent out C&D notices to a lot of major bot sellers, causing the majority of them to fold immediately. You can see the effects of this on item prices, the vast majority of historically heavy bottled items are way up in price, Snape grass seeds for example are up to 15k gp.
