Stay in character. You are a douchebag peasant boy. Unless you abuse the jank, you won't be a competent fighter for a while so take every advantage you can. If you find yourself up against multiple people, flee or try to Thermopylae them in a choke point because the ai has no issue surrounding and stunlocking you into oblivion.
i dont get the save issue. it autosaves in main quest missions + just sleep in any inn or bed to savetips:learn reading asapdo bernards tutorial + learn master strike from himmaces op
I recently started to repolay it, but on hardcore. Don't play it on Hardcore if it's your first time, although it is quite rewarding to survive the hobo-phase. Keep in mind that a lot of quests are time-locked. You can't just relax and take your time.once you've started them.
Doing missions for the Millers is a waste of time and will only make people hate you (you sell stuff for less than you get from the missions)

It's one of those games that's best enjoyed going in blind. You can ruin it for yourself by looking up where to find the best armor or follow a guide to make infinite save and healing potions and shit, but you're only playing yourself in this case.
if you have the dlc watch out when talking to the girl at the miller's place who saves you. you can get sucked into a several hour long replay of the intro sequence from her perspective. which is fine if you want to rp as a peasant woman for a while but it can be very annoying if you are raring to go stab some bandits or progress the story. that may be what unlocks your dog companion though i dont remember.
