I'm not really feeling it as much as 2016 one, bros
>>7433805732016 is the only good Nu-Doom game.
>>743380573>>743381031skill issue
unfortunately if you haven't done an ultra-nightmare playthrough you can't have an opinion of eternal. Once you do that then we can have a conversation.
>>743381031Forced meme
>>743380573What level and difficulty? It really starts kicking in when you have most of your moveset and you need to engage with the combat instead of the game giving you shitty encounters in the name of difficulty curve and progression (this is why I think dlc1 is peak)
>>743381236He needs to beat Eternal, TAG 1, TAG 2, every master level and horde mode on ultra nightmare before he can have an opinion actually
>>743381303I beat the Cultist base level, not sure if there are still any important moves I'm missing. Maybe it's just hasn't clicked for me yet, idk
>>743380573Main game was fine but the DLC is insanely fun. Way WAY more action packed than the base game. I play on nightmare and I'm genuinely exhausted after every checkpoint. Which is a good thing imo.
>>743382289I fucking hated that guy. First time he showed up he was whatever but later when he is mixed in with other mobs it was really annoying. Eventually he became very easy to deal with but he annoyed the shit out of me for quite a while. Also I never knew that him blocking shots with his shield charges his ability to release that shitty wolf.
>>743380573Not enough unskippable cutscenes for you?
>>743382548In time 2016 actually has fewer unskippables than Eternal, because Eternal shows a 10 second cut scene every single fucking time a door unlocks. Which is after every single fucking arena. And all the game has are fucking arenas separated by shitty piss easy platforming segments. Then add on how many fucking times you have to skip a cutscene and the time it takes the game to skip that fucking cutscene. On the other hand, Eternal has 5 cutscenes, all of them under 1 minute except for 1 that goes for 5, but you have full control of the character the entire time. In all that is still less time than Eternal that has you waiting to get back control of the character every time.
>>743383129>On the other hand, Eternal has 5 cutscenesWell, fuck me, typo, meant 2016. Guess that entire rant can be ignored now.
>>743382005This level is literally peak FPS gaming and I'm not afraid to say it. Back then I never thought a shooter could ever give me the same experience as a character action game
MUST.... DASH.... SWITCH BETWEEN ALL WEAPONS IN FIVE SECONDS... WAVE MY MOUSE AROUND SPASTICALLY... WAIT FOR RED LIGHT TO TURN GREEN... THIS IS PEAK FPS
>>743380573>MUST.... DASH.... SWITCH BETWEEN ALL WEAPONS IN FIVE SECONDS... WAVE MY MOUSE AROUND SPASTICALLY... WAIT FOR RED LIGHT TO TURN GREEN... THIS IS PEAK FPSAs opposed to this?
Soooo..is dark ages any good?
>>743381183not him, but i beat eternal on ultranightmare and i still like 2016 more, eternal was fun, but it tries a bit too hard with all the slayer stuff
>>743382005DLC 1 had all the good stuff. DLC 2 apparently hoped you'll die of cringe listening to the plot, before you start noticing the bad design of new monsters.
>>743385447Does anyone have those Eternal marketing webms where the guy played like he was having a seizure? And the Cyberpunk webm parodying it?Or damn, maybe it was the other way around.
>>743381031This image isn't good. The game 2016 has most in common with is Doom 3.
Doom threads in general lately.>>743385643It's "fine" in terms of base game. Too much focus on autistic lore for what ends up being literally a filler plot unless you care about the Wraiths. Much slower than Eternal but still autistically inclined to give you half a dozen functions to pull off at any given moment, glory kills got de-emphasized in favor of melee combos, some people detest the parry mechanics, but it's about the closest you'll get to an "missing step" between Classic Doom and 2016 with random shit stapled on top, which is probably part of the intention. Revelations DLC cranks shit up through the roof and goes back up to Eternal levels of crazy action, albeit the main tool for it in the spear can be janky, and the story actually does prequel shit people would expect even if it still ends on a cliffhanger; you'll either love the DLC for simply being more of a proper nuDoom game, or hate it for going back to crazy if Eternal's crazy was too much for you, especially with a huge difficulty spike.
Test.
meh. i dont feel like talking about nu-doom. everybody cater to me RIGHT NOW, and tell me the best way to play DOOM 1 and 2 and the best way to get a load of different map packs. i dont want just default DOOM campaigns with different guns but completely new maps/campaigns. do it! DO IT NOW!!
>>743387350vanilla for casuals: 1+2 port is fine enough.modders: get uzdoom and go to the zdoom forums for mods, or doomworld. they'll have a lot of the same stuff but you'll find metric tons of shitsource ports: doomworld has you covered on not just different things to toy around with for doom, but stuff like ps1 doom ports or other shit, too.multiplayer: get zandronum and visit their forums for compatible mods people are actually playing if you want modern stuff, i can't remember more classic oriented shit

>>743381031>DOOM 64Laughing My Fucking Ass Off
>>743380573Doom Eternal is awful. It's not only a terrible Doom game and sequel, it's one of the worst fps I have ever played in my life. Anyone who likes that pile of crap has objectively shit taste.
>>743389231Have you played like 2 fps and the other one was also doom? In what world is it worse than some garbage like COD?
I'm playing the newest doom since it was on sale and it's okaylack of dash despite your mobility getting raped is annoying though
TAG 2 > Eternal > Revelations > 2016 > TAG 2 > The Dark Ages
>>743389425i get some people wanting to dodge on command, but honestly the shield slam dash makes up for it
>>743389438Revelations > TAG1 > Eternal > Dark Ages > 2016 >>> TAG2
>>743389585Maybe if they had a rev 2 I would put it above everything else. The appeal of tag1 is that you are already fighting at completely full power and they throw appropriately scaled encounters at you which are hard and fun as fuck. I love the full kit in revelations but the "endgame" was not good enough for that
>>743389438>>743389585TAG 1 was too hard for no reason, you only put it on top to larp as "muh hardcore gaymer"
>>743390801>no reasonYou beat Eternal, you've got every rune, weapon, mastery, and the endgame was already throwing a mountain of shit at you. So it was time to take it to the extreme. If the argument was balancing the game around the quickswap exploit for literally killing things like Marauders in seconds, then yeah, TAG1 basically said fuck you to casuals who didn't do that shit, but otherwise it made sense for it to crank things up as the post-game, since you were effectively just going all in on more challenge. TAG2 wound shit back waaaayyy too much to compensate for the complaints, on top of COVID hitting its development hard enough that it made the whole thing feel underwhelming and the Sentinel Hammer was just a screen nuke for low cost.
>>743385447>Is he>Shooting enemies>From a first person perspective?>In a first person shooterStop the fucking presses.
>>743391497This. FPS should stay strictly within its lane and continue to be as milquetoast as wolfenstein and doom 2016 until the end of time.
>>743391497It's supposedly one of the greatest FPS games of all time yet the gameplay is somehow 10x duller than something like Serious Sam or Painkiller.
>>743393168okay, so get some footage of a late game fightyou know, the only time where serious sam gets good too, or when painkiller geHAHAHAHA i can't even joke about that one
>>743381031edited image because someone had a melty
>>743380573I feel you. I KNOW Eternal is a good game, but every time I play it, it just exhausts me. TDA and 2016 however, are like distilled ecstasy.
I didn’t hate Eternal, but still felt that it maybe went too far with its ”Sinon says” gameplay, and the added focus on le ebin doomguy backstory was utterly unnecessary and awful. That being said, 2016 blows its load far too soon regarding weapons and enemies, and IMO its enemy roster is way too small for its own good. I really enjoyed maybe 2/3 of it, but the end got way too repetitive with no interesting new additions. Well, beyond boss fights, which were surprisingly alright for a FPS game, but certainly weren’t good enough to carry the late game on themselves.
>>743380573Once you get into the flow of changing weapons and using the chainsaw and flamethrower, going back to 2016 is gonna feel slow as molasses.
>>743382289Looks like shit
>>743395561I dont know why is pressing 2-3 extra buttons such a task for most /v/ anons that hate on Eternal. I thought people from here play games with way more keybinds than that. Eternal has a weapon wheel so theres no need to press number keys to switch weapons, and besides that, you only have a dash, grenade, honor kill, punch, and a chainsaw.
>>743395798Oh yeah and the flamer. That was kinda uncecessary to be honest. Pressing an extra key to milk armor shards out of mobs.
>>743395798Don't forget you have a separate bind to swap between frags and freeze bombs even though on pc you should be able to bind for one each.
>>743395798It does have a weapon wheel, you will never want to use it unless you're playing with a controller like a dumbass. It just gets in the way and slows you down.I think whether you like Eternal or not depends on if you were able to meet it on its own terms. If you actively engage with its mechanics, it's one of the most fun single-player shooters ever made.
>>743396102Not him but how do I get good at Eternal. I rape Dark Ages and 2016 effortlessly, but in Eternal it's like my brain jacks off and I become retarded, constantly getting stuck on demons and not switching fast enough.
I simply do not want to micromanage my MMO cool downs in a first person shooter, simple as.I just want to aim and shoot things while skillfully dodging.
>>743386603
>>743380573>handblade>shoulder mounted missile launcher>light saberIsn't that a bit much?
>>7433810312016trannies are so weird I don't get it
>>743396331The only advice I can give you is to keep moving. Your ammo and health refills are the zombies that spawn around levels, so hunt for those constantly. Never fixate on a single enemy, just do as much damage as you can and move on.tl;dr haul ass
>>743382289this is the ugliest area in the game easily, most of it isn't this bad.
>>743389425Shield bashing zooms you like halfway across the map. Its dash but better because it damages enemies
>>743398487Honestly if you dislike city levels you are just a little bitch
>>743398570I dislike the Hell levels.
>>743396331you need to be very comfortable with your binds and prioritize ease of access, if you're ever stretching for a second row num key or you hesitated because you couldn't get a key quickly enough you need to rebind. everything falls into place after that.
>>743382005DLC is packed full of gimmick enemies and a fucking cartooney hammer. The level design is much worse than the base game as well. They couldn't have dropped the ball any harder. Also those DLC bosses, holy shit. TWO FUCKING CUBES AND THE FINAL BOSS IS JUST A GIGA MARAUDER
>>743398627*second half num key
>>743398604But you gotta admit monster condo, the spirit world and the living end were all memorable levels
>>743398702Memorable =/= actually fun to play gimmicks. Like, yeah, Doom II sticks in your mind with a lot of its neat experiments and ideas, but actually doing replays turns into a slog after Map 20.
doom eternal is darksouls "memorize patterns of rain while I walk" of the doom fanbase
>>743398570I don't hate that they exist but they're not very good removed from 1994 novelty.
>>743398770None of the levels I mentioned are gimmick levels
>>743398487DOOM 3 with a few adjustments would've unironically been praised.Honestly I found 2016 weirder with its upgrade system and arena-based combat. It doesn't resemble the classic games at all.
>>743386325>Eternal marketing webms where the guy played like he was having a seizure? Those were joke webms making fun of a video demonstrating "skilled" gameplay for Doom 2016.
>>743380573ok retard
>>743380573Eternal is fucking retarded. It's like I'm just smacking my keyboard trying to keep the loop going. Run out of ammo? Chainsaw. Need armor? Use the flame turret. Need health? Glory kill. Have grenades? Use them. All while running around in circles like a chicken with its head cut off trying to juggle all these stupid mechanics while dodging and shooting shit and swapping guns because certain enemies have various weaknesses. Then those stupid Mauraders pop up dashing around with his stupid dog making it impossible to do anything since it's shield blocks everything. Yeah I beat the game and all the DLC but I didn't have fun. The combat is infuriating and overwhelming.
>>743398967They were certainly not
>>743399002You control the buttons you press
>>743399002>The combat is infuriating and overwhelming. You control the difficulty level you play with
>>743398913Honestly, the biggest problems with Doom 3 largely boil down to how the first half of the game is room-to-room, basic puzzle and battle slogs, with constant boogaboo jump scares and monster closets opening behind. After the third Imp teleport, you're just probably going to walk up to their face and deliver thine buckshot. It's Half-Life 1 without the chaotic urgency or combat creativity since it's so methodical. The second half after your first Hell visit finally picks up a bit since with the Soul Cube you get to be risky and the devs know it, so the pace starts jumping up significantly. Same shit happens with Quake 4 how it wants to be a semi-military shooter for the first half and then once you go Strogg you're in for a crazy ride afterwards.I don't even mind the shotgun spread, it works exactly for the game it's made for, but you're playing for hours using it in the exact same shotgun kiss strat for too long.
>>743385643I love it. I love eternal also but after dark ages I like replaying dark ages levels more because its less frenetic. Also the dlc is incredible, as everyone is saying. People who hate nu doom honestly just have terrible taste.
>>743399278what's incredible about it
>>743396331Eternal absolutely asks a whole lot from you. There are times im doing an encounter and I hardly know what's going on but im somehow still handling everything. Know how to handle each enemy individually and their particular weakness and then once your in a room with a bunch of them, you're just doing it all at the same time.
>>743396331literally just be button mashing all the time and you winThe only thing you actually need to *think* about is the enemy weak points and which weapon to use on it, otherwise everything else is just superfluous busywork
>>743399319nta anon but from what i hear>some of the most challenging encounters of the nudoom trilogy that will just swamp your ass like it's TAG1 all over again>spear effectively becomes a style change button, so you swap off with shield that operates like TDA, or with spear that can crank you up to eternal speeds of aggression and carnagethe biggest issues were mostly technical things like no bindings for the new items at launch, how there's no proper NG+ and nothing carries over to the base game, and some folks finding the flashback story to be goofy and unnecessary
>>743399708I just beat the dlc yesterday and never used the spear, nothing was challengingthe shield just outclasses the spear even with the rune upgrades missing, the spear is completely uneccessary. Every new enemy they added is just a fucking gimmick enemy in hugo martin dlc fashion, the arch vile just constantly fucking runs away from you, exploding retard enemiesthe fucking spear is still bugged, you can perfect dodge and still get hit by shit, you can also perfect parry melee's and still get hitjust absolute shit, the base game was better
>>743399095Yes they were. They were making fun of the combat gameplay found near the end of this video in particular, where the player is pointless swinging the camera around and switching through different weapons for "style."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72S2aAxtZOsSome anon had made webms of that footage to try and argue (i.e., bait) that 2016's gameplay was more complex, and thus better, than classic Doom's. The Eternal webms were made later, making fun of the initial 2016 webms. Further joke webms featuring Cyberpunk gameplay and the like followed later.
>>743399810Nigger that's a Doom Eternal webm
I don't like the world design Eternal and Dark Ages went with desu. All the techno medieval stuff seems kinda off
>>743399945>reading comprehension
>>743380573It's much better in the master levelsAll the nudooms [including 3] have the problem of only being fun when the game starts throwing everything at you
>>743399978You're literally making your own headcanon in response to what's commonly agreed on.
>>7433805732016 > Eternal >>> Dark AgesThese have only gotten worse. Haven't played the Dark Ages DLC but I don't have high hopes.
>>743399810Doom 2016 is easy as fuck
>>743399973I just want a good UAC/Earth tech blend again. Even if they have to resurrect Quake to do it. All this immense focus on both Hell and not-humanity with their own fantasy techbase medieval futurism shit just feels like I'm running around in a Warhammer 40k knockoff that has zero original ideas of its own.
>>743400019I'm explaining the context of that Eternal webm because I was present in the first thread it was posted.>what's commonly agreed onAnd they're wrong. Not my problem.
>>7433805732016 is such an easy game it literally ruins it for me. I need challenge to have fun. Good for people who don't I guess.
>>743400064Yeah, that's why people were making fun of the footage. It tries to make the combat seem more complicated than it really is.
>>743400045>Dark Ages DLC but I don't have high hopes. It's pretty shit and surprisingly short. They made it so you can only get full content by replaying levels after you acquired the master key which is received in pieces as you beat each level (it's a hub world). So you gotta go back through each area you already beat and use the master keys to go to new areas so you can finally unlock the true last boss.....WHICH IS JUST A FUCKING RESKINNED PAIN ELEMENTALgod they are such lazy fucks, no wonder they got laid off
>>743399271Agreed. The size of the enviroments should've been more varied, and as you put it the strategy with a lot of enemies remains the same throughout the entire game. What I did in my replay last week was fix the shotgun spread and make the flashlight wider, probably helped a lot. I didn't try this but if the sprint speed was the default one the game would've probably given an entirely different vibe. It's almost the same speed as DOOM 2016.
SHARTANDFART
>>743400381i wonder how humiliated hugo feels when he had to backtrack back to eternal like a bitch when people rejected his shitty idea
>>743400234Doom 3 was intended to be a tech demo for Id Tech 4. By this time, Id was mostly a technology company with big investors for their engine. So they made a scary shooter showing off the lighting engine and other state of the art tech using Doom 3 so they could license off Id Tech 4. Rage suffered the same fate sadly and just became an even more glorified tech demo, shame because I really liked it but it just ended so abruptly you could tell they had to wrap things up quickly because of shareholders and other shit.
>>743400425>backtracks from one of his ideas to anotherProbably not too humiliated.
>>743400649the spear is a half ass backtrack anyways, he ended up just band aiding shit and tacking it on, there's a bazillion keybinds to deal with it because of it
>>743399319The spear completely changes your approach to every encounter. You'll be flying through the air and constantly repositioning across the map and dashing all over the place. The shield kind keeps you flat on the ground. Along with that the new maps are massive and probably the best in the game. Designed with a lot more verticality to take advantage of the spears new abilities. The new music is some of the best in the game as well. And the progression in the dlc is great also. Very explicitly designed for you to beat once then go through again post game to play the new unlocked areas that are crazy hard and also just cool when its the retro levels, and also unlock even more abilities for the spear you can use on post game madness. Then using the shield AND the spear post game is wild. You have so many abilities and ways to approach stuff at that point that it is similar to eternals info overload of trying to take advantage of every enemies weaknesses all at the same time but now its in a doom game thats even more metal and brutal. It rules.
>>743398913>arena-based combat. It doesn't resemble the classic games at all.The retail games didn't have level design like that but the people who still make fan levels in the 21st century definitely doAlthough there is the big difference of classic doom enemies being slowpokes who throw a projectile every 5 seconds so you can place 50 of them and they're only a reasonable threat while a 2016 imp is death destroyer of worlds and you're in big trouble if there's 4 of them like in Brutal Doom
>>743401639honestly it is kind of annoying how many people complain about arena fights when the more aggressive and frantic enemies don't really work in a more maze-like labyrinth classic design. no one wants to get stuck in a hall with three nudoom imps or turn a corner straight into a shield shotgunner. putting doom 2016 and TDA enemies in classic levels are a perfect highlight of the fact that shit doesn't really work well this way. and yet i'd rather these games stick to these enemy design strats and AI than wind everything back to slow motherfuckers tossing spicy meatballs everywhere waltzing about across the map the instant they hear a fist woosh.
>>743400167Did you play on nightmare? I had issues with a lot of areas, but some weird things were happening like one room would kick my ass and when I reloaded, there were less mobs than what originally spawned which immediatelly made it easier. Then I found this which definitely explains itIn Doom (2016), you might see a lone enemy randomly drop dead or disappear without you hitting them. This is a built-in game feature to stop you from getting stuck. If an enemy gets lost outside the map, stuck inside walls, or separated from you on a different floor for too long, the game will safely despawn them. Why the Game Does ThisStops Soft-Locks: Enemies like the Mancubus are slow and bulky. If they get stuck in a wall or fall into a weird part of the map, they can't reach you to fight.Prevents Cheating/Kiting: In tight arena-style lockdown rooms, the game requires you to clear all active threats to move forward. If a demon is stuck and cannot be damaged by conventional weapons, the kill failsafe automatically resolves the encounter so you can progress.
nudoom killed doom and id
>>743401812You just want something that isn't DOOM.
>>743403869I have a thousand free sequels to Doom thanks to the modding community, I'm fine with playing something that isn't stringently obsessed with playing 1:1 to the originals. I'm fine with Doom 3 for god's sake, I'm not gonna be an uppity lil' cunt about a game I can already play a million different ways as is.
>>743380573Something is just off. When it's good it's amazing but often I found myself just not really connecting with it. The resource management mechanics just become too tedious to keep track of and distract from the fun of shooting. Still love it though, some amazing level design and enemy encounters but I dropped too many hours into it to ever replay
