Idk man why go through all of that when you can just pirate the game if you're that afraid of losing it on Steam?

I cloned games to my hard drive in the '90s

holy retardism.

What's creative about this? He just launched a steam game from an external ssd. It's just stupid and unnecessary extra work.
>>
What percentage of people even know that all media including discs, carts, literally everything has been "digital" for the last 50 years? I feel this discussion is growing so incredibly fucking stupid, I had a talk with someone and was telling them how good old games was a good place to buy games you own and they insisted you don't own them because it wasn't "physical" i.e. didn't come on a disc. You can... make your own disc if you want, it's all the same shit. The problem is DRM
>>
Not a good system

1. Expensive, SSD storage is expensive

2. Blu-rays hold 100gb and can hold compressed games

3. DVDs azo dye exist and are good quality for any game under 4gb like indies

4. Physical media still is the most stable, cheapest and reliable storage method besides HDD.
Flash and SSD has bit rot and are expensive, again.

5. Flash storage is only useful in certain scenarios like archiving retro storage since those consoles are specifically designed with obsolete lasers and discs that are no longer being made, while PC never really had official releases on the scale of consoles

A better solution is to have a bluray game case, print out custom artwork, print custom artwork on the disc and put the DRM free game on the disc. Then use an NFC small sticker and register it with Zaparoo so that you can still take it off the shelf and launch the game through steam.

It's not really a good way to do it.

People that collect bluray or DVDs if they did make a physical custom PC case collection want something that looks good on the shelf.

Something this is more like a collectors edition what if, if an indie dev or game dev made a physical release on PC.

This is kinda pointless, over engineered and looks amaeuter.

its better than anything you could achieve tho, stop being jelly

Moving files onto an external hard drive is not an achievement.

>game used directstorage
>"DURR WHY STUTTAR?"
>>
>>743383690
Nah it's objectively ugly and looks like a 3D print project, not a collectors item. Even the color red doesn't match elden ring.

An NFC tag sticker inside using the game case is much more clever. And if steam ever goes down or shuts down you can always reprogram the NFC sticker or remove it, and the disc with artwork will always hold the DRM free game in full
>>
>>743382974
a better solution is just stick with steam and gog, and if they remove your games then just simply pirate them and stop being a moral fag
>>
>>743381983
start killing games
>>
>>743382138
it'd make more sense if it was the actual game and they were a GOG user. having it launch steam is kind of defeating the purpose imo. it shouldn't be reliant on anything
>>
>>743387427
It IS the actual game, though. All the game files are on the drive.
>>
Imagine somebody gleefully twiddling their fingers as their 3d printer finishes with the plastic bullshit they need for their fake physical media Reddit post.
>>
>>743384134
its just a silly little project though. its fun to do things.
>>
>>743384958
That doesn't give you physical copies on a shelf. Why even have game cases if not for a Collectors edition as a physical ownership type deal.

NFC cards are soulless
>>
>>743381983
Kind of cute but you can just burn a disc
>>
>>743388332
>That doesn't give you physical copies on a shelf.
neither does a pile of SSDs. define physical copy
>>
>>743387674
yeah but aren't steam games reliant on the launcher? I was under the impression it still needs a connection to steam's servers. I know with steam deck I have to connect to the internet first typically before I switch to Offline mode to play on an airplane or whatever
