About to play this for the first time, should I mod it? I've been told to install the unofficial patch with the tweaks and restorations patch
>>743388220You should install the unofficial patch, but whether you want to do the "plus" patch for the restorations is more a matter of taste.
>>743388414>a matter of taste. In what way?
don't mod your first playthrough just use the unofficial patch. also don't play as a nosferatu first, I made that mistake
>>743388486The modder took some liberties with what can be considered "restored content". There are a lot of changes that fans of the game don't agree with. There are some cool things added too. For a first playthrough I would go with the basic patch, then if you want to play again go with the plus patch. For choosing your first character I would either do the little survey it gives you at the start, or just choose the clan that seems coolest to you.
What other Anons said, Basic Unofficial patch, probably don't play Malkavian or Nosferatu as they have a wildly different experience. Probably better for future runs and then you can maybe use Extended Plus Unofficial patch.
Hi deb
>>743389179honestly malk first playthrough would be kind of epic. I wouldn't recommend it but it's definitely not as bad as nos
>>743388220No, don't use the plus patch for your first time. It's heavily modded with custom content and not everyone likes it. Save it for another playthrough.>>743389179>probably don't play Malkavian or Nosferatu as they have a wildly different experience.Plenty of people have played them first and enjoyed it. It's okay to be aware of the differences but people should just pick whatever clan sounds the most interesting to them.
>>743389431you're missing tons of shit on nos for the clan gimmick. with malk you just get an augmented experience
Malk first works if you expect to play multiple times, its kind of the intended experience for Malk because its extremely confusing and most of it wont make sense until subsequent playthroughs.
>>743389502Nos can still do most of the content actually, you just have to be careful when walking around the hubs and not getting too close to random NPCs walking around.
>>743388486Don't think too much and just install them both, you won't regret it
The HD Overhaul mod makes the game look better. The drawback is that it mutes street music and replaces battle and club music with new tracks by an associate of the modder who the modder wants to promote. The new music is decent, but it clashes with the early-2000s setting and disrupts the original vibe. So it's up to you to choose between original music or better graphics. As for the plus patch? I'd say use it. Some of the complaints against it are outdated. It used to be that the restored dialogue was noticeably lower in audio quality, being more compressed, but it has since been improved to match the rest of the game's dialogue. It's now seamlessly integrated.I had two bugs while using the plus patch: 1) the locked door to the sarcophagus room in the museum could not be opened under any conditions, and I had to use "noclip" to pass through it, and 2) I could not use the Odious Chalice when it was stored on the right hand side of the inventory page, and I had to rearrange my inventory to place it on the left hand side and make it work. Apart from these two bugs, which can also occur in the unpatched game, there were no issues.I recommend playing a Nosferatu, because many characters will react with amusing disgust to your hideous countenance.
>>743390736replacing ISOLATED is blasphemy
>>743390820I don't like that either, but the graphics upgrade is significant.
>>743388220VV genuinely loves my PC and will marry him after the end of the game. Also Jeanette, Therese, Yuki, and Heather will marry him too.
>>743390736It should be easy enough to go into the sound folder and delete the new/muted tracks, then the old ones should play normally.
>>743389179>probably don't play Malkavian or Nosferatu as they have a wildly different experienceNos was not wildly different for me. Maybe it's because I played the plus patch, but I found I could walk the streets without difficulty and would only be struck with Masquerade violations when I came very close to NPCs, which I soon learned not to do. Being Nosferatu becomes more of a hazard in Hollywood where the NPC density is higher, but it's still easily managed if you take a little care with your movements. Interior spaces like clubs and shops grant you amnesty from the offense caused by your monstrous appearance, because you need to talk to questgivers and vendors in these places and the game would be impossible if you could not safely enter them. Another distinction of the Nosferatu is that they need to use map nodes in the sewers to travel between hubs instead of using taxis as other clans do. That does not constitute a major difference, and it's to your advantage to visit the sewers as a Nosferatu because you get a clan bonus to the blood you drink from sewer rats. The worst that can be said about this quirk is that the sewers are dull environments and traversing them can be tiresome. But backtracking through the streets can also be tiresome, especially in Downtown.Play Nosferatu, it's cool.
>>743391736I tried that and it doesn't fully solve the problem. Street music is still muted and some club tracks just don't play at all. It's all or nothing with this mod.
>>743388220You don't need any mods. Make your character a combat god because the non-lethal options in this game are completely fake.
>>743391512>VV genuinely loves my PC and will marry him after the end of the game.Sure she does. She's clearly a nice girl with lots of love to give.
>>743388220The people who are telling you to not play Malkavian on your first play through are demonic retards who hate you.
video game characters that are literally you
>>743395193Beckett is a chump because despite being a tabletop loremaster he believed all the bullshit about the sarcophagus.
so sequels are completely off of the table, then how about remasters then?
>>743392703>but I found I could walk the streets without difficulty and would only be struck with Masquerade violations when I came very close to NPCs, which I soon learned not to do.Same. Like, I had to almost bump into them.
Bump for Nosferatu Pride month.
