I wish there was a fad in retro gaming to make "arcade" hacks of popular console games that removed all the easy 1up exploits, infinite score exploits, and put timers on the levels. I would really enjoy trying to 1cc "Donkey Kong Country: Arcade Edition".
There's a Super Metroid arcade hack
what stops you from doing it in the base game? i do it all the timeif you lose the original amount of lives you had then just reset the game, i don't get why you need romhackers to do this
>>743402502>if you lose the original amount of lives you had then just reset the gamThat's nothing like an arcade game where there's the risk/reward gameplay of pressing for extra lives and the extra points you get at the end of the run for having excess lives. Playing with just 3 lives is not arcade-style.
>>743402502>no time limit>no points system or it's easily exploited>arcade games don't have fixed lives>if you allow extra lives most games have easy ways to farm themIt's not as easy as you make it sound. What you're dong is not really like an arcade game, it's just a challenge run. With a fixed number of lives you're going to speed-run through a game like DKC (as an example) instead of trying to get all the letters of KONG or searching out all the hidden areas for bananas.
>>743401214DKC 2 & 3 had hard mode versions with the right button combos on the save select
>>743402976If you don't need extra lives you can also speed run arcade games and not bother about score. If the arcade is designed as a coin muncher to the point some deaths are unavoidable, that simply adds earning the minimum required extra lives to the route.
>>743403293>If you don't need extra lives you can also speed run arcade games and not bother about score. If you're not bothering with the score you're not fully interacting with the arcade game.>If the arcade is designed as a coin muncher to the point some deaths are unavoidable,Oh you're one of *those* people. Opinions disregarded. Good day sir.
>>743403378Absolutist fallacy correlating a singular floating value with the whole experience. By that logic, you can't fully experience the game unless you have access to the dip switches.>Oh you're one of *those* people. You will fail to produce when asked the Gauntlet(1985) 1cc that would disprove my point again, and vacate the thread like a bitch. Again.
