Aren't upper vents dangerous?, like it's easy to drop liquids there.
>>
>>743402238
They usually come with magnetic plates to filter dust and liquids, so you'd have to pour a whole cuppa joe onto the fucker to do any real damage.
>>
if you need to ask, never place any liquids above any electronic devices you care about
>>
I have spilled a full glass of water on my PC multiple times (because I'm retarded) and it still works fine
>>
why the fuck do you have liquids above your pc
don't tell me you're sitting on top of it
>>
>>743402238
You could, that's why I never place any liquids in any place where they could be tipped over into my PC.
>>
>>743402238
just turn the PSU off before the liquid gets into it
>>
>>743402341
I spilled water on my 970 once it kept going for 4 months after but eventually died

Why would you ever place liquids over your PC? Anyway, on topic, I have an NZXT H6 Flow, it didn't come with dust filters so I just bought some DIY ones to set myself. Hopefully with this I can stop cleaning my PC every month or so.

I always tape them. There's no need for upper vents to have iar flow and I'd rather have less risk than more.
>>
>>743402238
1. Put your desktop on top of your desk, like the name says.
2. Don't have open liquid containers on your desk. Get screw bottles or water bottles with screw lids.
>>
>>743402238
Show your setup so I can understand how that's a viable concern.
>>
>>743402873
I'm imagining it but I have never carried a can of coke all the way to my PC without opening it
>>
>>743402238
The fan on the back of my case stopped working
Is this bad? If all the other fans are working won’t the air get pushed out anyway?
>>
>>743403127
If you aren't replacing it remove it so said dead fan isn't blocking the exhaust space so much.
>>
>>743402238
Surface tension stops liquids from getting through. Try it out yourself by trying to pour water through the mesh. After you've removed it from your PC, obviously.
>>
>>743402238
Upper vents are pretty pointless imo, as long as you have airflow from front to back you're set. I keep mine covered too and have had no issues for 10+ years. Helps keep dust out as well.
>>
>>743403127
You'll get positive air pressure which will leave more ambient heat inside circulating and raise your cpu/gpu temps.
>>
>>743403127
Have you tried swapping out fans to see if its really that specific fan? Could be a bigger problem relating to your motherboard if another fan isn't working from where that fan was plugged in at..
>>
>>743403264
>>743403379
Ah fuck
>>
>>743402238
Liquids is the least of your problems. Tiny debris can still fall from the ceiling. Insects especially would love to get inside PCs, more so if you have a lot of LEDs lights inside them. Don't trust PCfags to know anything about the outside world. Get dust filters/magnetic sheets like the other anon mentioned if you're worried about those holes. Not all PC cases come with them sadly.
>>
>>743403654
Positive air pressure is fine/a myth because air will always find some way to escape a computer case.
>>
>>743402942
hey... that's my drawing!
>>
>>743402484
How do I manually breathe again...?
>>
>>743403726
Not air, ambient heat. One time exhaust stopped working and by chance my foot brushed against my pc case and I felt that it was hot. Checked my gpu temp at that moment and it was 110c when it's max was like 90.
>>
>>743402873
you shouldn't be drinking cokes either fatty
>>
>>743402873
Just put the can on the other side of the desk.
>>
>>743402873
>imagine you get a coke
But I drink water
>>
>>743402942
If I buy a usb desk fan and stick it facing down on top of my case where the red rectangle is will that help air flow?
>>
>>743402873
Imagine unironically eating or drinking near your pc, your fucking key board must be an ant garm
>>
>>743404206
In general where that red fan is should not be used in typical air cooled setups as it just fucks with airflow.
>>
>>743402238
Just don't drop liquids there
Never happened to me
>>
>>743404474

i have spilled half a coke on my keyboard at a lan when i was 14 but still that's $15 and easily replaced (still worked like a charm tho lmao)
>>
>>743402238
PC boards are coated with varnish or something similar, nothing should happen if some little water fell inside.
Cola could corrode stuff so that should be washed away.
>>

That’s exactly what I fucking did yesterday and now I have to take my tower to a pc repair store to see if I fried the mobo or just the PSU. I had to get all fancy and get myself a Stella Artois glass I saw at goodwill, feel like one of those bougie new yorkers and have a sooo on my lone day off, and of fucking course I spilled it onto the vent. My computer shut off but when I tried restarting it it blinked a few times, so I hard shut it off, let it sit a little, and used a dry bath towel to soak up any residue on the mobo(looked like it hardly got on it), but now it won’t even power on any more

Pray for me, bros

I just have the top fans set to exhaust so any liquid that gets close is blown away by the air pressure before it hits the electronics. Simple physics really.
