Also a reminder that the western world was never able to compete against Asians in that game. It's basically taboo now to bring it up, you can't talk about tech or 1f links without someone chimping out about it. It's literally pearl harbor the game.

Everything SFIV did was revisioned by zoomers who think that fuerte was everywhere and that the only thing that decided matches were vortexes despite the vortex getting removed half way trough it's lifespan. Also never mind the fact that SF6 actually gets decided by random guessing in the corner and pure catfishing limbs.

I think it would be pretty popular, its a very satisfying game to be executionally skilled in and even today it has people with fond memories of it.
Was it perfect? Fuck no, it has a ton of cancerous bullshit but even Elena, a character so boring she sent people I was watching Evo with to sleep, its still entertaining.
The matchups have huge amounts of variety, characters are actually generally different. Ultras and FADC don't create boring slop like V-trigger (pure anti fun) and drive rush (pure gentrification) did. 1-2f links created extremely interesting matches where you could tell who was insanely good based not on their ability to do everything, but their knowledge to actually go for things in the moment.
Crouch tech was frowned upon because SFIVtards didn't know better, if SF6 added crouch tech they'd all be creaming.

enough to get decent matches at most times of the day but not much more than that. it's too complex for anyone who started with modern fighting games, and so old that most of its playerbase has moved on from fighting games, if not video games in general.
plus the people willing to deal with its barriers would rather play for money in new games.

East was better than West in 4 because arcade culture, arcades were dying or reluctant showcases of 80s/90s stuff in the west by the time 4 released. Since 5 didn't have a dedicated arcade port, it was much easier for western players to catch up.

Nah, it will do solid numbers at launch but once the casuals get tired of losing to sweatlords or fgctubers (hi justin wong), the playerbase will drop drastically, probably around 500 players.
Not a bad number for a fighter honestly, not even 3S has over 1000 players.
