If you peer into the cosmos to study this, you tend to go insane and your body transforms into Glintstone crystals itself. So an alternate route some unethical students found is to fuse other students together into a "seed of the stars", a 'School of Graven Mages', what you see in that pic. Doing this gets you banished from the academy as a dangerous criminal and heretic though.
