Why do fandoms suck so much?
>>
>>743417039
Its just human nature
>>
>>743417039
people are retarded
>>
I like video games, but /v hates 'em.
>>
>>743417039
they are controlled by discord or reddit tranny mods who abuse their power
>>
People in general suck.
>>
>>743417121
>discord or reddit tranny
cope
>>
>>743417039
The elephant in the room not addressed by the original meme : The bus the optimist and pessimist are riding is heading to same destination.

That's shmups. A fair word of warning for whoever wants to get into the genre, don't bother coming to shmup places or even the threads on 4chan. At best post 1cc and leave, if you really want some ggs
>>
>>743417264
The destination is inevitable, it's the journey you take that shapes you. Ergo the destination doesn't matter.
>>
>>743417039
They are full of people ready to purity test you.
>>
>>743417264
How is that not addressed, it's the entire point
>>
Because people suck and the collective IQ of any group is equal to that of the dumbest member, divided by the number of members.
>>
>>743417039
>game happens
>people discuss it
>people stop caring about the game after a few weeks but still want to talk with those people
>"fandom" becomes a group of people attenwhoring while only referencing the game just enough to make it seem like they are fans
>>
"Being a fan of something without interacting with people on 4chan"
FTFY
>>
>>743417473
4chan is usually better than any alternative, but that doesn't necessarily make it good either.
>>
>>743417104
My stance has always been that individual people are cool, groups of people are impossibly stupid and vile.
>>
I unironically really like Persona
most Persona fans are either 40 year olds or 16 year olds so I avoid interacting with them
>>
>>743417039
Because only mentally ill people obsess over a game they never played.
>>
>>743417406
Nice. Sure enough, optimism or pessimism are personal outlooks, it says nothing objectively about what will be their destination.
>>
>>743417518
Depends on whether you prefer toxic positivity or toxic negativity.

>While good, most media does not in fact need someone to dedicate significant portions of their life speaking, speculating or making fan-creation about. At the point this is reached any further effort goes from being a fan to being obsessed. This is not just linked to video games but true of books, television, any hobby or any activity.
There are other factors to consider: something may be so worthwhile that generations of people tread the same path of enjoying a piece of media, and some pieces explore something that can be transferred to real world benefit, but this is rare. Thus, any fandom when all sensible interest should be sated in a current generation continues they immediately can be dismissed as invalids and ne'er-do-wells.

>>743417539
That's me but with anything pre-Switch Nintendo. I refuse to interact with tenders
>>
>>743417039
For me, it's Undertale
>>
>>743417579
4chan can be overly negative, but it's generally more honest and free. The alternatives just force you to into "toxic positivity" or whatever other beliefs the site admins share.
>>
I love being out of touch. Imagine consciously engaging with fake internet people on any topic. Couldn't be me.
God bless fanart aggreators.
>>
>>743417638

Depends on other factors too, like there can be really good threads about a game on /v/ if it's done at the right time where there isn't shitposters and people engaging in genuine discussion. The slower boards have this happen more often for non-vidya related topics and it happens on /vrpg/ a bit.
>>
I think the FromSoft Fans are the most mentally ill...the amount of masochism you must enjoy WITHOUT any story, lore or conclusion is so mindblowing to me
>>
>>743417728

Noticed that, very recently even. You basically can only discuss >>743417397 in morning EU hours.

>Love GameTitle1
>World famous renowned game, pretty much everyone universally agrees it revolutionized part of the industry
>Try talking about GameTitle1 to a normalfag
>GameTitle1? Oh I love that TV show! I'm like the biggest GameTitle1 fan! GameTitle4 is pretty cool too, I loved all the loot mechanics and mods!
>Oh, you mean play GameTitle1 and GameTitle2? Oh those are old and janky I they're not very good
Makes me want to kill myself.
>>
I've never interacted with fandoms and I'm not enjoying my bus rides.
>>
people confuse hobbys with deities, basically worshipping false idols

It depends on the game. Threads for whatever the latest hit is are usually fine. Nice game threads are also generally fine.

That's because the dedicated schizo there is american, that onimai avatar retard. Why he hasn't been range banned yet is anyones guess.
>>
people dont even like the product anymore they just wanna be in the fandom
>>
>>743417039
a healthy person above the age of 16 should not interact with any fandom at all.
>>
>>743417473
>>743417995
This, even if only it lets you talk to interested people without realizing what huge faggots they probably are. Threads about niche stuff are a good time, at least until drive-by retards and dedicated shitposters appear.
>>743418556
I would guess bad-faith moderation to maximize engagement.
>>
>>743418817
Sadly true, same reason they allow LLM reply farming threads and (barely kept secret) mod/auto-posted bait OPs to farm engagement.

Fandoms were dogshit long before either of those websites were popular.

>Why he hasn't been range banned yet is anyones guess.
he is on his computer LMAO
he only phoneposts these days
>>
>>743419034
Forums were also domineered by autists and controlling nerds though. They just developed autogynephilia in the intervening 10~20 years and became tranny mods.

fandom is something that evolved into something different from what was once known as fanbases.
its completely normal to call yourself a fan of shit you have never actually interacted with.
>>
>>743417039
>Why do fandoms suck so much?
Look up the origins of the word "fan" and you'll understand.
>>
>>743417039
because groomers use it as a platform for their gay shit

>>743417579
yes but on 4chn you can call out both toxic positivity and negativity by calling them a faggot, faggot
>>
Always online social media and content mills run discussion dry at breakneck speeds. Popularity always attracts spergs who then start drama and there's no way to gatekeep spergs from something as wide as an entire fandom.
>>
>>743417039
Because fandoms, by their very nature, are dominated by those who invest more time and effort in interacting with them, which ends up selecting the most autistic, chronically online people.
>>
>>743417039
because people who obsess over 1 thing (at least in terms of media) and make it their whole focus in life are fucking losers it doesnt matter what it is
