I like to think I'm relatively on top of KH lore, but one thing that's always confused me is the Dive to the Heart in KH1.Was it ever explained? I know it's meant to be Mickey contacting Sora, but first off how did he even do that? And secondly why would he do that? Isn't Sora just some bum kid at this point?

That's why he sort of had a connection to Mickey.
