The only game where you get weaker the more you level up

Kotor 2 does this as well.
But because of the severe content cuts you end the game at level 28-30 instead of 48-50 and never start really feeling your weakness
>>
FF8 makes everything tougher as you level up as well.
>>
>>743420291
Seriously? How is that fun?
>>
>the only game where you need to actually know what you're doing and carefully plan your levelling or get punished

Heres the neat part. It's not fun in the slightest.
>>
>>743420325
usually level scaling gives you a flat difficulty curve, but it's very aggressive in oblivion so you appear to get weaker if you are building sub optimally
i kind of enjoy how it encourages you to use broken spells and enchantments. people like to munchkin in morrowind and skyrim, but they are both easy enough that it isn't very satisfying to do so
>>
>>743420325
Yeah but Oblivion's scaling is fucked up with enemis that suddenly gain 5x Health, 3x Damage while your character barely gains 20% more attack power, especially if you play as a sword swinging guy
Also efficient leveling is a meme, attributes are so nerfed going for +5 every level does jack shit, the only viable ways of progress are magic and enchantments (magic on a stick)

>"Scaling is good because it allows the game to continue to present you with a challenge as you level up, your build becomes preparatory in anticipation of the various thresholds of scaling."
>>

You didnt play Oblivion so why the fuck are you here
>>
It's funny how you can make your character almost unplayable by spamming alchemy or (heaven forbid) grinding speechcraft or sneak. At least if you don't know certain cheesy spells combos.

200 IQ:
>"Level scaling leads to homogeneous and dull gameplay, and is often used in slop games where you can pay 200 indians to churn out content and then slap it on the scaling curve and call it a day."
>>
Doesn't this game have a difficulty slider?
>>
>>743420291
The game is balanced around you doing oblivion gates and making use of the sigil stone enchantments but lots of people just ignore the main quest and then cry when the scaling fucks them. Learn to play the game.
>>
>>743420291
Genuine halfwit if you struggle with oblivion
>>
>>743426562
Isn't there some bug in Oblivion with how the player applies damage to enemies being massively reduced?
>>
>>743426562
but the oblivion gates are insanely fucking boring
>>
>>743426634
There's 2 damage bugs in oblivion:
- Poison damage is not affected by the difficulty slider, so on easy it's useless, but on hard it's mega potent
- The duration doesn't work for disintegrate spells/enchantments
>>
>>743427249
I remember reading that damage just isn't applied properly across the board in Oblivion, but I don't remember the details and it could have been made up.
>>
>>743420291
I love Oblivion but the bad level scaling requires you to engage with magic to some extent regardless of your archetype, like enchantments as a warrior or archer, so roleplaying a character who refuses to use any form of magic is basically impossible. it's a bummer.

Infinite money, instant healing effects, early high level armor, difficulty ignoring oneshot poisons
Also how do you even accidentally "grind speechcraft"?

tell me you stupid fucks never played the game without telling me, because you can easily with any build enchant a weapon with absolutely busted enchants and have it carry you through the entire game with ease, and even if you aren't intentionally breaking the game with insane enchants even with mediocre ones you get from the sigil stones will carry you easily through the game, you stupid bastards running around with no buffs on base gear with no damage mitigation at all getting shreded because you're a fucking idiot and complaining the game is just outpacing you, stupid fucks.
>>
>>743428676
you guys aren't even attempting to explore the games gear crafting at all, not engaging with spells that are their to mitigate damage for you melee types, not using the block skill, no enchants on anything rings or otherwise, nothing you lack creativity to engage with the games tools and crying about the difficulty, how about you actually put in some effort for a fucking change you lazy pricks.
>>
>>743428548
>Infinite money, instant healing effects, early high level armor, difficulty ignoring oneshot poisons
Sure, if you read the wiki or reddit or whatever. There are plenty of ways to break the game in half with or without alchemy. I am obviously talking about a noob situation.
>Also how do you even accidentally "grind speechcraft"?
Accidentally? I don't think so. Why are you using "quotation marks" here, by the way? You can easily grind speechcraft if you are so inclined. A new player might even try it. Tragic.
>>
>use a no level scaling mod
>game is unplayable because bandits push your shit in even if you specialized in melee at the start
>>
>>743420291
It is such a fucked game in many ways.
But it is still one of my very favourite single players of all time.
The atmosphere, the music, the cities, the fucked up dialogue, the mission design (not just the super popular ones, I think it all worked out very well). It all worked well together.
>>
>>743428676
Damage caps out relatively low while enemy HP scales forever.
>>
>>743425990
people don't like the scaling because they aren't trying to use creative ways to get over these walls, its a high fantasy rpg i promise you their are 3 dozen ways you can get past any wall the game presents you with, you just aren't trying people don't like having to use their brain and plan for things correctly and when they are given even the slightest pushback their fragile egos puts them into a meltdown about games difficulty online.
>>
>>743420291
World of Warcrap does this shit, too. Everything levels up with you but your gear doesn't.
>>
>>743429108
make 3 spells, 100% weakness to magic, 100% weakness to shock make 2 of these, hotkey them onto your spell bar, now use any shock spell, rotate the first 2 debuffs a few times these buffs stack, when you feel satisfied with the damage stacking, use your dps spell and watch as you one shot the entire game regardless of its level, enjoy.
>>
>>743420291
Games should become harder the longer you play.
>>
>>743429108
i can give you dozens of ways without cheating to break the game damage wise, how are you guys pretending like none of them exist, these threads are always the same its people who obviously never engaged with the games spell making or enchanting system at all, pretending like their are no options to get over the games problems, like has it ever occured to you to enchant your weapon with drain health for instance?

>Gen X
A bunch of wanna be tough, henpecked faggots no better than boomers really.
>>
>>743420291
same with yugioh? 12 star monsters die to level 4 monsters.
>>
>>743420325
It's the only game where it's noticeably unfair
>>
>>743426675
Ok?
>>
illusion magic breaks the games balance entirely, the follower system where you can stack a number of followers and buff them with illusion magic and other stuff to create an army of giga buffed followers that can tank anything, you guys aren't even trying.

>Enemies scale better than you do so they get relatively stronger than you as you level up
>But that's okay because there's a completely separate enchantment system that ignores level scaling
Literally does not address the issue.
>>
>>743430642
there is no issue, this is how the game is balanced. as you level you unlock a multitude of ways to overpower the enemies
i'm afraid it's a skill issue if you exclusively walk around m1ing everything the entire game
>>
I recently replayed Fable 2 on an emulator and it's exactly like this with ridiculous level scaling.
