You have no idea how often developers don't even bother optimizing their game, or making sure it runs on not the latest hardware. The have work ethic of "if they can't run it they'll just have to upgrade" instead of putting in actual work to make things run for everyone. If that's their ethic when it comes to compatibility then you can only imagine what their ethics are when it comes to making a good story or gameplay. The technical side of gaming IS part of a review. And if the developers make it a hassle to get the thing running properly then people are valid in criticizing the game for that

Watching a few minutes of gameplay is the best think you can do, I usually watch 10 minutes and that is enough, and I normally choose a time between 1 and 2 hours of a longplay so the player is past the tutorial area and I can judge it better.
