I’ve finished the DLC, and I hate the direction DOOM is taking right now.
DOOM 2016 was a relatively simple game—all you had to do was move, shoot, move, and occasionally rip demons in half.
But by Revelations, the whole game has become extremely complex.
Shields, chains, over a dozen types of enemies and variants, tons of collectibles, puzzles, and challenges.
Toward the end, I was practically flying around like a madman using the chain, killing swarms of enemies while endlessly parrying bullet barrages.
The screen was so filled with swarms of enemies and colorful flying bullets that I could barely see anything.
My brain was constantly under intense pressure.
The entire game felt noticeably overdesigned to me. It’s like designing a gun but adding 20 different firing modes to it.
The game system became incredibly bloated. After finishing the DLC, I was left with nothing but a profound sense of exhaustion—I just felt like I’d finally been set free.
I don’t hate this DLC, but I feel like the game has stopped feeling like DOOM. It’s more like solving math problems with a gun.

This is the hidden boss from the Revelations DLC.
The game's boss battles have turned into extremely complex bullet-hell shooters combined with acrobatic stunts.
This doesn't feel like DOOM anymore; it's become a completely different genre of game.

The whole game feels like a reverse Call of Duty.

2016 was a mediocre console shooter

You're 100% on point. There is an elegance in simplicity, adding 15 mecanics on top because it's a sequel and it needs more stuff is peak retardation. Doom 2 had minimal additions: new maps, some new enemies, a few new guns. That's all you needed for a sequel.

Well you're in luck, with all of id's engineering talent fired, there's no chance they're ever going to get another game out the door.

And Doom 2 sucked compared to Doom 1.
Slaughter map wads prove that what sequels need is to be harder

Just say you got filtered.
