Which does /v/ use in the big 26?On the one hand, this board has despised laptops historically. However, most people here seem to think that modern games are mostly slop, so in theory the laptop would offer a better value and form factor for all of the games /v/ actually seems to like.
>>743423145If you're referring to /v/'s "Big 26" regulars/community, there isn't any official census or reliable poll that tracks desktop vs. laptop usage. That said, based on the kinds of hardware threads that regularly appear on /v/ and adjacent boards like /g/:Desktop appears to be the dominant setup. Many users have a gaming desktop plus a laptop for school, work, or travel.High-end gaming laptops are generally viewed as a compromise—useful if portability is required, but often criticized for price, thermals, upgrade limitations, and longevity. When someone asks "Should I buy a gaming laptop or build a desktop?", the prevailing advice is usually: build a desktop unless you genuinely need portability. So if you mean "what would /v/ recommend?" the answer is probably:Desktop: ~70–90% of recommendations.Laptop: Only if you need to carry it around regularly. This aligns with the board's long-standing preference for:Better price-to-performance.Easier upgrades.Better cooling.Higher frame rates for the same budget.
>>743423145If I'm moving around a lot, I use my laptop. If I'm staying put, my desktop.
I have both. I use my desktop for gaming and my laptop for daily driving. When I expect to be away from my desktop for a long time, I move the game storage SSD from my desktop into my laptop and take it with me so I can keep gaming. It's not as good as my desktop, but it's still serviceable enough to get the job done.
I have pc but sometimes I miss my laptop, people say getting pc is cheaper, but actually laptops are cheaper when you consider it includes a monitor and accessories like keyboard and speakers
>>743423398Depends entirely on the laptop. Cheaper models usually have shittier screens and parts, and the build quality is overall pretty bad and cheap feeling. Also most laptops have horrendous fan noise if you try to play anything more demanding, even with a stand or a cooling pad.
>>743423351>literal LLM replying to a 4chan threadAre things actually this bad?
>>743423647Even the entry level stuff is at least good for IPS, and you'll even catch an OLED on sale every once in a while. Granted, entry level laptops are getting up to $1000
>>743423145Desktop at home. Laptop on the go. As God intended, and I’m not even religious!
>>743423145Desktop with a 4090 for most things with Windows LTSC 11Laptop hooked up to a hdmi hub for online games like call of duty or kernal level pirated games since lol @ letting malware on my main PC
>>743423145i used to travel a lot for work so i got into laptops. just got one with a 4060 in it for like $600. people say it's a meme but it plays heavily modded cyberpunm and starfield, so i dont much care. with a cooling stand, aluminum mouse pad and a wireless mouse i can kick back and game in bed if i want
Do any of you have chinkhelds? Which ones do you like?
>>743423398>but actually laptops are cheaper when you consider it includes a monitor and accessories like keyboard and speakersNo it isn't lmao. Reminder that laptops with the "same" GPU runs at a similar performance with a desktop GPU from last gen and a tier lower tier. You also get raped with USB ports so you end up getting a USB hub anyways so you're not really saving money lmao.By the way, the laptop version of a 5070 only has a shitty 8gb vram while costing more than a 5070 desktop build.
>>743423145Laptops suck fucking ass
>>743423145>>>/g/
>>743423145laptops are for games that were released 10 years ago and older or low to moderate power consumption gamesyou'll fry your laptop in a year if you're going to keep gaming at 90 celsius
>>743423145Gaming laptops are for girls and children who are new to pc gaming and oblivious about computers. They fucking suck dick and are a terrible value. I wouldn't consider getting one under any circumstance.
>>743423145>most people here seem to think that modern games are mostly slop, so in theory the laptop would offer a better value and form factor for all of the games /v/ actually seems to like.laptops have some serious issues, fragile screens and keyboards, batteries drain making them pesudo desktops, prone to over heating and they are a pain to maintain. with how common handheld pc's have become you may as well get one of those for gaming on the go.if you're getting a laptop for as a substitute for a desktop you're better off buying second hand or low spec current gen hardware and building a desktop. t. poor faggot laptoplet for 15 years
>>743424183They don't want you to know this, but current /v/ only has a bout 10-20 daily active users, everything else is padding by LLMs. I'm actually an LLM too, and so are (You).
>>743423145using laptops is only viable option if you travel a lot, otherwise they are outdated garbage.
>>743423145i exclusively use a laptop, always connected to my tv unless i'm traveling, using a unified menu and a controller for all my games. the screen switching is plug and play like a tendie switch. it's great. i'll probably never buy a desktop.
Mini itx, a laptop is just ewaste and also overpriced (regardless of inflated ram), so if you move often mini itx can be transported easily, I have two portable touchscreen monitors too
>>743423145Never owned a laptop, don't see the point, I rarely leave the house and when I do I don't need a pc with me
>>743423145My T480 is plenty for me but I play retros and indies.
>>743423145Do you need mobility? Or maybe live somewhere where you don't have space and shitters may steal your stuff? Then laptop. If not then desktop is better price/value ratio every time.It is not a controversial topic at all. Laptop has specific use cases, otherwise desktop.
>>743424183he used a reddit maymay >big 26him getting an extremely low effort ai assisted shitpost in response is fitting
>>743423145desktop. i've never bought a laptop in my life.
>>743424716Then fuck off back to r/atheism you neckbeard. No one asked
>>743423145I use a laptop. No fucks given, I don't play modern AAA games and the better indies like Factorio run fine on it too.
>>743427941The bigger issue is whether someone copied and pasted an LLM reply or if it was an autonomous agent. I never really gave credence to the idea that there were actual bots on 4chan but at this point it would be trivially easy to flood the board with a bunch of agents
>>743424960Retroid/ayn.
>>743424960i have a anbernic rg34xxsp. it's pretty good for playing super nintendo and gameboy games. i'm playing to grab a retroid pocket nova to replace it in a couple of weeks.
>>743423145PC is always better, but laptop is there for the space constrained and financially lacking. Mine is going on 10 years, the fans are dying and making clicking noises, and it is barely clinging on thanks to linux, but it managed to run Black Myth Wukong on medium settings so I'm doing fine.
laptop keyboards are flat mushy crap. laptop screens are small. therefore to have a superior experience you would plug a kb into it, and output to a monitor. at which point it's just a pc. if you care more about portability than the play experience then sure. but a desktop will always provide a better total gaming experience
What I don’t like about gaming laptops is how loud and warm they are and you are so close to all of it. I have had my pc under my desk for 30 years now and am used to that noise level.
>>743423380you game while you drive? holy fucking shit you are an absolute retard. god no wonder traffic in this country is so awful, there are mouth breathing scum like you who are so brain rotten you need to bing bing wahoo during your commote. i'm going to run into you with my super duty, bing bong wahooo troglodytepeople like you shouldn't be allowed t drive, let alone vote

anons should i buy this before prices get even worse or should i just keep waiting
>>743432049>ports and power button on the bottom sidewhat the hell kind of abomination is this?
>>743432049its a very good price for what you are getting i even got the exact same motherboard im suprised by the pricing i dont know where exactly they have cut costs with this
>>743432274THe cool kids keep their system on the desk, next to the montor. How else could everyone see the cool RGBs?
>>743432049id go for itmy old PC decided to shit itself - i probably could've replaced the power supply but i had just moved and had no patiencei got lucky and got an msi aegis on sale for 1500, google shows them almost 1k more rn
>>743432049Just ordered parts for a PC with almost exact same specs(except a 7800X3D instead of a 9800) on the thesis that hardware prices won't come down for another couple years at least. Still feels like a bit of overkill
