Got done perfecting Wiper Bosses on my last heart. Hard fucking game. Also do cars really have headlights on their rear view mirrors or is this a visual cue for the player?

They’re supposed to be turn signal indicators. They’ve been on cars for around 30 years or so, though they were only on premium/luxury cars at first before they became common on almost all cars, like power windows. My dad had a Mercedes with those mirrors.

First rh game for me, how exactly does getting the opportunity for a P work? I beat the first two I did first try and didn't even realize there were limited chances, and after I noticed that little bit of extra stress has been fucking me up since then. Yes? Literally doesn't change that the english voice sounds awful, they should have used a different speech bank
The JP one sounds fine

All TTS voices are made from pre-recorded voice samples which are concatenated together to make a speech synthesizer

The point of a TTS is it reads out any text you give it, but to make the voice itself you make the original samples from an actual person.

Doesn't change that the english one sounds awful, and I muted Miss Reeds the nanosecond the option came up

18 & 19 are both excellent, 18 is technically the last remix with a theme but 19 is just more fun and has better music. 20 kind of falls flat by being a much less exciting final medley of all minigames than Fever or even Megamix. 16 gets a pass for being short by being the first Remix to have the entire pool available to it of five.
>>
>>743451515
>>743453027
Remix 11 is one of the best levels in the series honestly. Great use of all four games, good variety between cues in those games, great theme, incredible backing track, and using Space Sentry to cut 4 beats off the Disc Dog wait is genius.

I like the variety of having 20 remixes with them being able to get a little more experimental at times like remix 11 or 19. I wish there was more visual consistency but I bet 20 remixes and sequels to all games were decided way later in development .

If my choices were 9 visually cohesive remixes and a normal remix 10 or having 20 remixes it's gonna be the 20 remixes. Especially from a content standpoint. It gives a good enough buffer to where even if a remix or two is lacking there is a lot more space to have great ones in there. To me 10 great remixes with 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 11, 15, 17, 18, 19 justifies this
, even if not every single remix lands id say you have as many good remixes as fever if not even more, personally I don't care for fever's remix 6 but the other 9 are top notch.

Or if we go off of Megamix, it would be 7 visually cohesive remixes (id debate the visual cohesion is even better than fever's, looking at the barber shop remix for example), but while these remixes were visually satisfying I think the music suffered a bit. Nobody fucking remembers the donut remix.

Hopefully we get the best of both worlds in the next entry, but I'm ok with things turning out as they did
>>
>>743450043
The ones in A for Effort are lazy but I think the way the high five fever guys were incorporated was fun and creative enough
>>
It flares my autism that remix 20 is a mix of game 1 and game 2 main themes. What would have been kino is if remix 15 and 16 changes spots and they made remix 15 a game 1 medley as a fake-out and game 2 a sequel game medley for Remix 20. Obviously don't cut out Remix 15 just replace 13 or 14 or some shit. Remix 20 is still ok though
>>
I thought the game was good but wasn't 100 percent sold on it being a worthy sequel until space sentry holy shit what an absolute based duology of minigames

really good point, i agree with you. this is the most common thing people complain about for Groove and as I play the game more I dont really mind it. Theyre all good songs still, sure theyre not as fun to look at, but theres more variety, and none of them are bad, if not just less boring than the ones with fun themes

Just got through remix 5. Am I the only one that thinks the games look lazier than ever? It's somehow worse than what I remember in the DS version. The art style is disappointing and the level design is bad even though a lot of weird stuff happens during the levels.
>>
>>743476256
There's nothing else quite like Rhythm Heaven sadly. Why do you think we all anticipated this one so much?
>>
>>743476256

Melatonin, Rhythm Doctor, Bits n Bops are the 3 I know and they're all pretty good
>>
>>743476105
Daughter Entomologist is cute, in both versions. I really love that they both stay super into bug catching together for decades.

>>743476256
Beyond other RH games? There's a few indie RH clones of varying quality, Bits & Bops being the best of the bunch. Rhythm Doctor is like Disc Dog on Mega Crack. Elite Beat Agents and the Ouendan games have a whimsical energy that will resonate if you love RH, same with the PaRappa/Lammy games. Hi-Fi Rush and Dead As Disco are Rhythm/Action hybrids that pull it off in different ways. Beyond that Rhythm is one of the only genres still thriving in arcades. I fucking love DJ Hero but it's not exactly easy to get into it in current year.

But enough about Rhythm Heaven
>>
>>743476524
>go play real rhythm games
what makes rhythm heaven a fake rhythm game?
>>
>>743476774
It's literally a rhythm game for small children. All style, no substance. You press one single button (sometimes two) at long intervals. Stages last 1 minute or so. The peak of the difficulty curve is that for a few seconds per level you have to do it without looking at the visual cue. That's the game.

But the worst part is that the fans of this game are so arrogant. They think it is the only "real" rhythm game because it "actually involves rhythm". Which is retarded. Any rhythm game involves rhythm, but you're usually not handheld through understanding that it exists unlike in rhythm heaven, so some retards think there is no actual rhythm in play.
>>
>>743476871
as opposed to "real rhythm games" like friday night funkin I suppose

>/v/ thread
is this game popular?
I just started last week and on chapter 9.
There was a very similar indie game to this a while back, but I forgot the title. that indie game is far better than this since it's actually quite challenging. this game is piss easy.
>>
>>743491778
I found it
it's called Bits & Bops. very good game.
There's also Rhythm Doctor (extremely hard) and Rift of Necrodancer.
I'm also interested in UNBEATABLE but havent got time to play it.
PC gaming sucks since I'm a wage slave. no energy to sit down and play on PC.
>>
>>743491890
Bits and bops was soulful and difficult for a few games (mixtape 2, 3, president birds and snaked own) but the problem I have with it which got more noticeable after 100%ing groove is that the game relies too much on visual cues for most of its levels. You can't get the blue crown perfects relying on sound alone, at least that wasn't the case in the demo or when I finished the game around December.
Quality of the stages was all over the place too. Feeding the crocodile, the cute bears ice skating and the food skewer levels were so boring and insipid. The only levels as boring in rhythm heaven groove are both iterations of ribbit rockets and sweeper stars 1, but that's 3 out of 80 instead of 3 out of 20

Rhythm Heaven isn’t that/as popular in the west as it is in japan. Not enough potential customers to justify going through the effort of extra production and oversea shipping. Same reason splatoon gets a minuscule fraction of the merch it gets at home

>>743469464
Agreed.
Groove is quantity over quality for its remixes and games, in a good way.
It not like every remix doesn't have unique visuals either. We got different visuals with
>Remix 5's Super Hero theme
>Remix 11's Desert
>Remix 15's Cyberpunk
>Remix 16's Photos
>Remix 18's Color Silhouettes.
That's 25% of the remixes. Remix 8 also has the secret Ado silhouette theme.
>>
Deep Sea fucking sucks and I think the fact it wasnt initially playable (kind of like air boarder in DS) makes it worse
>>
>>743518672
They never let you play the credits game on its first appearance, but immediately unlocked it after they finished
>>
>>743518672
The fuck? It's one of the best games in Groove. The song is a banger, great visuals, great fakeouts. It's classic Rhythm Heaven. It's easily S-Tier along Ribbit Rocket, Slice n Dice, and High-Five Fever 1 & 2, and Space Sentry 2.
Not being playable the first time sucks, but that's a minor gripe that the other games did as well for their credit games.
>>
>>743518837
My only issue with Deep Sea was that the cues were a bit muted / harder to follow than most other games. Likely by design to not distract from the rest of the presentation, but still made playing it a bit harder than I expected
>>
>>743518672

It's simple and easy. It's still S-tier because the gameplay is fun, the music is fantastic, and the visuals and fakeouts are quintessential Rhythm Heaven.

They put some of the best game (Hoop Trundling, Ribbit, Slice n Dice) as the openers of the first 3 columns for a reason. Catchy AF songs, easy, simple, but capture the essence of the series beautifully. Same with Built to Scale DS and Hole in One in DS and Fever.
>>
>>743520579
Almost certain. We got a dev team again, it's a smash hit, AND this technically isn't a SW2 game.

Slice is one of the best in the game and it's not just because of housewife ass. S+ cues, really nice visuals, fantastic sequel by all accounts, fun connection with Fruit Flex.
>>
>>743519619
Feeding the Beast 2 at least has a new mechanic. Stop n Go 2 is lame as fuck and does nothing new. It's slightly more difficult patterns with a worse song and worse fakeout visuals.

I go through a set, then replay the ones that I felt i did bad on like once or twice each. Usually ending with 2-3 medals out of the 5 then move on to the next set. I only did like 2 or 3 sets per play session and I would start and end each new play session by replaying some of the older minigames that I had missed the medal on, but still only just a few times each.
>>
I always wished they would go back to songs from the previous games and reuse them on new remixes. Maybe it'd be difficult due to copyright or the singers not wanting to come back, or maybe people would find it lazy but as long as it's not literally just porting the same minigame like Megamix did I think it would be cool
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OrHYAjW6QU
>>
>>743529162
Just cause it would be on a new system doesn’t mean they HAVE to use its features or justify itself with them. It’s the newest system, sure that’s a good enough reason, plus it would be a lot less plausible they’d make a new one on switch well over a decade since the systems release and when very few if any games are still releasing on it
>>743529359
Problem there is that 120hz on tv isn’t supported with 4k, so the game would have to be forced to cap out at 1440p on tv mode if they wanna do that, and even then most tv’s don’t even support 120hz. The game’s built around its fps so you can’t just have both, it’s one or the other

Damn those sales for Move It really are brutal, I wonder if those were caused by the reception of GiT since Move It was standard WarioWare

Should've had Weird Monsters in 5/4, 6/8, and 2/4
>>
>>743531335
Rhythm Heaven's artstyle doesn't exactly look bad at 1080p, so the resolution isn't an issue. No reason why they can't design it to run at two different framerates, indie games like Bits and Bops do it just fine
I'd rather them not mess with mouse gimmicks. Among other things, it won't be possible to play with a true "unbroken" connection (switch in portable mode with the joycons attached, not wireless or even wired, both of which increase input lag)
>>
>>743529162
Fever had no input gimmicks and in Megamix touch controls were optional
No reason why a possible switch 2 release would be different
>>
>>743531623
>>743531839
They (likely) won't make the game exclusively playable in mouse mode. That means dock-only play. They probably value the series's portable tradition and gameplay style suited for shorter portable play sessions.
Also practically zero games are mouse mode only on SW2. Drag X Drive is the only Nintendo game that is, and that's small digital-only game made to showcase the hardware.
Also a portable-only SW2 Lite will probably come out by the time Rhythm Heaven 5 releases. That device could have mouse support via USB, or still have detachable controllers. But it's likely to be similar to the SW1 Lite which didn't have detachable controllers and just didn't support motion control games.

>Haruki Matsumoto (New EPD hire?)
i don't think that assumption's right, it seems like he's a special contributing artist since he's credited for the songs in the stages like the vocal groups and otherwise doesn't look to be involved with nintendo

my industry plant wife Ado
>>

some of the later medals basically require you to get a perfect, it's pretty annoying because then you can just fail half of the inputs in a different game and still get one. Megamix was the only one where medals were free thanks to the lenient requirements of the scoring system

technically WW and RH used to belong to EPD7 (metroid team) but since WW Gold it got moved to EPD6 (which also handles cooperative work with third party devs). It's why Tomodachi Life, a former EPD7 game, is now under EPD4 much like now Rhythm Heaven.
EPD7 is still alive though, they did Dread and apparently Famicom Detective Club is still made by them. And of course there's Metroid Ravenous.

They're like the Sneaky Spirits except they don't have noses or buck teeth for the comparison to work in the same way as other intentional cross-game references are. I think the furthest that is an intentional nod would be the Tap Troupe being tangential to the Space Dancers since not only are their heads square, but the perfect gave you a story where they trained under Space Gramps.

Remix 16 is so comfy.
>>
>>743569471
I've come around on it. A slower, softer Remix with a neat theme is the right way to start a Stage of 5 all-game Remixes. Then 17 starts kicking your ass around the middle, 18 makes you rely on less cues (including a silent Disc Dog to finish), 19 starts making you really work for it, and 20 is everything at once.

The boss design is easily the highlight, Weird Monsters included. They wrung a ton of potential out of the gameplay concept. Drak, the Jester, Narra & The Demon especially. Noticing the bell section of Demon's theme and squeezing maximum DPS out of it by hitting two Flames between each Exorcism feels incredible. I really want to see if I can land an Attack Up Stun Crit Exorcism just to see how big the number can go.
