should game mechanics be justified in the narrative and/or lore or is it okay to just let them be mechanics without necessarily explaining how or why our characters are doing video game things?additionally, does it need to be bulletproof and logically consistent explanations or is a throwaway explanation acceptable?
>>743426506It's better if they are but not crucial
>>743426506explanations for things is always cool but it isn't necessary. there is no need to absolutes.
Invasions and jolly cooperation in DaS doesn't make sense even when they try to explain it. Seemless co-op and non glowing invaders would be kino

Just do a little lip service. You don't have to go super crazy.Let Internet autists fill in the rest for free in their own time
>>743426506no, they are games, they are supposed to be fun, if you really really feel that way you can just invent something later to justify it, thats what great games do
>>743434976now that's a good fucking image
If there's a totally unexplained gap between the game world and the game mechanics you'll end up with a weird dissonance. It's nice when you just integrate them as tonally consistent as you can, like Resident Evil having save rooms. Saving is a gameplay abstraction but a safe room with a typewriter doesn't totally take you out of it.
