I don't think he reincarnated. I think he became a shapeshifting ghost thanks to Lamington before going to the other side with his wife at the end. Anyway. Yes. It allowed him to not only have more fun time with his son but also test him and make sure that he ends up handholding, hugging, headpatting, kissing, nakadashing, and impregnating Flonne in the end, making peace between heaven and hell. I approve every father who goes the extra step to make sure that his son finally scores

I think that the bad ending, where Laharl sacrifices himself for Flonne, is better than the canon one.

It plays on the tragedy side and shows that even though he did kill the Seraph like a demon would, Flonne did make him change and awoke love in his heart.
Him sacrificing his life while begging God to bring Flonne back is powerful.
However I am a sucker for happy endings so I prefer the good ending personaly.

It was a foregone conclusion that he would become one but I guess if you prefer to leave it ambiguous instead of a cliffhanger for any story that picks up from there that's up to your taste.

I got that the first run and I didn't even realize it was supposed to be a bad ending.

Laharl giving his life for another like his mother did for him, and Etna taking over as the overlord felt like such a natural end to their characters.

Even the post credits scene felt like they did it to soften the blow of the ending being too sad. I kind of wonder if it was originally written to be the actual ending.
