>Open source emulator runs PS3 games perfectly
>Sony's top engineers consider it impossible
This is why I will never buy another PlayStation console ever again.

ps5's cpu is shit. you can already to that if you install linux on ps5 witj old firmware and the performance is garbage.
>>
when a capitalist says "impossible" they mean "unprofitable"

Can't wait for infamous games to get decomp'd one day.
>>
>>743430009
You need a top tier CPU for inFAMOUS, don't you? PS5 isn't strong enough to emulate it, they'd need to port it.
>>
>>743430106
It can run 95% of games using RPCS3 Linux anon. People did testing. Sony easily could make PS3 emulator for PS5.
>>
it isn't impossible, there just isn't enough demand to meet the cost of development
the 'demand' behind BC is mostly performative

snoy has the instruction set documentation for ps3 and could make a 100 times better emulator easily

Speak for yourself. The only reason I ever bothered with Steam was because I couldn't play Fallout 3 on the Xbox One or PS4 when they launched. 13 years later, I'll never buy another PlayStation ever again if there's no PS equivalent ports of my favorite games in my PC library. If the PS6 can't play Silent Hill 3, then I won't even give it a second glance. I specifically bought a Switch 2 because it was compatible with all the Switch 1 games I wanted to play.

They want to sell you their $80 remake/remaster.

>snoy has the instruction set documentation for ps3 and could make a 100 times better emulator easily
That's not how that works.
Those instructions aren't just a pointless abstraction, they're commands that activate circuits in the processor in a specific way, and different processor architectures process things in very different ways.
It's part of the reason you wouldn't use a GPU for CPU tasks, as while a GPU can do some thing very quickly in tandom, it doesn't have the architecture needed to do everything a CPU does on a hardware level, and would have to build a bunch of higher level solutions to be able to, which would cost processing time.
That said, a lot of this is solved on modern hardware with incredibly fast processing speed and modern architectures.
>but isn't it all x86_64?
I'll just leave this here, have fun finding out all the unique instructions your generation of CPU has access to.

Pretty much this, they could recompile those games with their knowledge long ago, but it would hurt sales for remasters and remakes

Infamous 1 is playable but infamous 2 is basically unplayable unless you've got a god tier CPU

I was only able to run it somewhat well on a supercomputer I had access to

lmao
It has made good progress but it also took 15 years for it to get to this point

Backwards compatability is something that consumers want but publishers can't stand. They only have it because they know consumers will backlash if it's not there in some form, like what happened to Nintendo with the Atari 5200 and the SNES. The SNES couldn't play NES games and customers got mad about it. The Sega Genesis had backwards compatibility with the Master System via a cheap adapter, and even though barely anyone in the US had a Master System, the customers saw it as a pro-consumer move that made them want to give it a try after feeling like Nintendo had burned them.

For console makers, not only does backwards compatibility ask something of them in terms of technicals and engineering, but in the more greedy sense, every game you own that you can still play is potentially a new game that you won't buy. If your new console only plays new games, then you are under pressure to unplug and get rid of your old console, and the games for it. And now as a bonus they can even sell you a new version of a game they already sold you on an older system.

Does anyone still believe emulator liars?
When shit like 'playable' means something changes on screen when you press a button.

Every time.
Don't ask questions, don't scrutinize the system, just get mad at idpol and bring up trannies or something

You are the system. You would not be coddled or even allowed to exist if what you think are your beliefs didn't serve it. No, your persecution fantasies don't count, take a shower.

Communists say this shit and then go on to defend central banking and totalitarian statism. It's projection.

I always found it interesting how console fags can't play older games on their new system. It was genuinely one of those things that blew my mind when I would talk to my schoolmates who played on consoles.

Infamous 1 runs very well because its just an hd ps2 game. Infamous 2 looks massively better and actually heavily uses the SPUs so you need a top tier pc.
>>
>>743439064
You could play PS1 games on the PS2 and PS3, you could even play PS2 games on launch PS3s but then that turned into specific digital releases unless you modded the console. Now it's you can only play a very specific selection of PS1 and PS2 games but even if you own them physically you have to buy them again.
Xbox to 360 you needed an external HDD and either download or get sent a disc for updated emulation compatibility, then they tried the hardest with the xbonex where you could insert the disc of specific games to download them but actually get graphical enhancements. They stopped updating the games added though.
Nintendo was pretty good with it, more so limited by consoles changing what the game was stored on. NES-SNES GB-GBA-DS DS-3DS and GC-Wii-WiiU and they had a good and fairly cheap selection of digital games up until the switch. Now it's pure jew shit where you buy VERY VERY specific re-releases, LIMITED TIME DIGITAL releases, or subscription based library with no way to actually buy anything.

wait a second can I not turn my ps5 on, download infamous 1/2 from my library, and play it with better performance than I ever could on my old ps4? I’ve barely touched my ps5 in years but why wouldn’t it run my old games better with better hardware?

Don't kid yourself
The high technological level of the West was achieved by aristocrats interested in science and was moved forward by the old university system and organizations like the Royal Society
Merchant scum are better at progress than commie retards, sure, but their ultimate state is the same. "You will own nothing and you will be happy" - that is the credo of both the capitalists and the communists, maximum slavery. Whether it's for a state or for a small number of hyper-rich barely matters. The end result is the same, a society entirely compromised of slaves.

Consoles would change architecture from generation to generation. Making a game work from a previous generation when the architecture is different would require a port of the game being made, or emulation. The problem with emulation is that you need a much more powerful device to emulate another architecture. Usually one generation isn’t enough of a technological leap to do this.

PCs maintain compatibility with older hardware and software primarily because of their business users.

I thought rpcs3 retrogressed into only having 1 compatible game now?

Remember when SimCity was "impossible" to run offline, meaning you just had to deal with all the downtime due to the servers dropping connections?

Some modder fixed it within a day by altering a single line of code to turn off the network features. This forced a patch to be released that let people play offline but with gimped features.

PS3 CPU is very different than the PS4/5 CPU so you actually have to put in effort to get a PS3 game working on them. It's why only like 4 first party PS3 exclusive games got remasters.
