Redpill me on Conan Exiles, anon-kun, how is it?
I like the idea of an open world sandbox where you can go all oonga boonga barbarian to crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the women, there's a primal quality to it going off footage I've seen that's piqued the interest of something atavistic in my brain.
HOWEVER, it uses UE5 with seemingly no way to be able to play the older UE4 version. How's the performance?
Lastly how predatory is the in-game store? Cosmetic only or does it paywall gameplay items you'd otherwise have to grind for?

I saw the review of one german guy who had 4000 hours and dropped it with the "Enhanced" update. I got burned too many times on live service games, you tell me if it's worth it or not

Every time I've ever spoke about it, it either has two ways it's played

1
>offline / public serv
>arrive at first river, get set up, takes a while, but not unreasonably tough
>but lots of little annoyances add up (eg the run from the south part of the map to the river itself is tedious, let alone if you set up in the central canyons or the jungle a little further afield + you need to do a full runback every time you die off bed timer) (or how the first major dungeon at the West River doesn't tell you it's a softlock if you don't have a bow or run out of arrows for puzzles) (or jank combat getting you killed in general)
>first dungeons / bosses are obviously designed for multiplay, so you knuckle down and grind over the gear grade
>either barely get through if given time to prep, or get offline raided if you're on a server
>put it off, decide to "just check out the rest of the map" and nakedrun
>explore a huge and detailed world while being chased by shit that'll oneshot you
>see almost everything the game has to offer, and realise the ultragrind needed to see the last 10%
>make a megabase then give up

2
>private serv
>feral pack of boomers playing together like it's their third job after second life
>every single one is a wannabe leddit janny who will actively find rulecuck reasons to fault you, to "excuse them" using their +30 adamant sword to "teach you a lesson" because they're scaredy not!pacifist pussies + have no reason to use it otherwise and it took them 46 hours to craft
>definitely a shitcord link in the autocomment, if you don't join up you're a valid because you might be an unknown HACKER (there's only 8 people on the server)
>if you weren't there 7 months ago when they started, they're not going back to progress with you

tl;dr the world is awesome to explore, best in class, but the game is a pain to play even at x10 resources; unlike ones like ARK or Rust which at least have a nugget of fun gameplay to keep you strung along

Cool ip dogshit game

>barbarian to crush your enemies
this is all the game has to offer, there is literally nothing else, no npc interactions excpet some one line guide at the noob river, one line of text

>Lastly how predatory is the in-game store?
there is only isle of sptah dlc required to complete it, everyting else is cosmetic and pointless because of the stated above

>I got burned too many times on live service games, you tell me if it's worth it or not
there is no such thing

Play it with a large group of friends / likeminded individuals that can be relied on to stick to it and start around the same time if you want to have fun. Ideally split yourselves into 2-3 different small groups to compete with one another rather than one blob, so you can still PvP without having to deal with offline raids. It's high skill floor + ceiling + investment friendslop. If not, you'll run into all the problems in >>743435812
I'm suprised the game doesn't have more LFG presence on /vm/ honestly. It's good in a group but a pain solo.

Also the NPC enemy archers are basically olympic-accuracy headshot demons (but not your slave archers :)))))))))) )

How is singleplayer?

I'd like to know this too, I just can't be bothered putting up with people's bullshit, be they raiders, griefers or moderator scum

>>743437232
Yeah. I've stopped playing multiplayer games when I started college. I can't be bothered anymore.

As a newbie the wizard anon >>743435812 seems to be speaking the truth. I have made a base and gathered some big titty women as workers, did the first dungeon and cheesed everything with a bow but even wearing steel armor I get twoshot by the random crocodile boss and i'm too chicken to even attempt the big spider in the overworld. I want to guess if I venture even further out I would get raped. For now i'm having fun making a tiny village but the grind is kicking in.

Hello, singleplayer anon here, I've beaten the game (you can eventually escape from the map zone and finish the game).
The game is a standard lazy loop of finding new things, using new things to make things you will use to get even better things. Repeat until you get the best gear. The resource nodes are scattered around the entire map and you need to run A LOT.
The combat is just button spam on enemies that aggro when you enter their proximity, and you will fight a lot. There is a large variety of them, however.

What you really want to hear about is thralls, you want thralls to carry your shit and fight for you, and taking people captive to make them into thralls, and training animals to fight for you, takes real life hours. Expect 10 hours of irl time to train a person into a thrall. This mechanic was obviously designed around multiplayer in mind, you could leave the game running in the background or make a sever for yourself, or do it like me, and rawdog it by just playing the game in the meantime.
You need thralls to SIGNIFICANTLY speed up crafting times that would take 5 minutes per item, and for luggage, like I've mentioned.

The fights are piss easy if you know what you're doing and you should definitely try it out, it's a very unique kind of game that I have mostly enjoyed and I think everyone deserves to know the experience that is CE.

Can't you adjust those timers in options? At least for thrall breaking i'm 100% sure
>>
>>743439361
I think so, but it required some server fuckery so I didn't bother.
>>
>>743435812
thanks, not op but you saved me tons of hours of frustration

OOZIE NAIN MILIMIDA
