>>743434782Never played the Kiseki games but I recently did Xanadu Next, Sorcerian and Faxanadu (I know, not technically Falcom but whatever). Fun stuff. Currently playing through Tokyo Xanadu and it's kinda shit but I like the pick up and play nature of it with the bite sized dungeons.

>>743434847I marathoned through all the Ys games last year and the quality drop is really fucking noticeable. I did Proud Nordics this year and it...just wasn't good. The Napishtim engine games were peak and 8 was was the best of the new games but 4, 7, 9 and 10 were just eh. I'd rather replay 1 or 2 than go through those newer games again and that's with me having some PTSD from the bosses in 1. Ironically, I played through all the Ys games because I played through Xanadu Next and THAT game is fucking kino.

There was too much open space and it took too long to travel until later in the game. I'm sort of sick of the raid system by now too, so having the raids tied to the naval combat is something I didn't care for.

Notice how there's things like trainers and food vendors that basically only heal you when you use their services and nothing else. Xanadu Next was pretty cool, really liked that game. Still waiting for the PC88 Sorcerian stuff to get translated since there's scenarios that were only for PC88. What version did you play?

>>743435756The character control as I would define it was pretty good if not the best for the free camera Ys era. The combat itself lacked balance with regular blocks being overpowered, blue attacks demanding no timing and no attacks in the game wanting you to jump over them like in previous games (a constant pitfall where jumping is useless in combat as opposed to the previous games). Still it was generally a fun time fighting anything. If they had a bit more variety for enemies and placed them in more annoying places it would be very good.

Them releasing proud nordics just as I bought the original soured me on the whole thing and though I did actually sell my original copy and buy that enhanced version I still haven't played it yet. Though I still have Oath to play through and I think I want to do that first.
