What games would you recommend to someone that's really bad at games, and possibly a bit retarded?

Any wizardry.

Dead by Daylight. Actually don't. There's already too many retarded survivor players out there in that game.

Anything the "game journalists" love

Depends on what kind of games you like. There are plenty of games that are either super easy or which can be made super easy, so you'd first have to narrow it down a bit. That said though, I'd imagine some simple and straight-forward action game, with plenty of narrative bits to keep you going when the gameplay gets too boring to stand, would work fine. Try any of the God of War games for starters.

I'm shit at games too, no shame about it really. I like playing turn based jrpgs, no stress about reaction times or performing mechanical combos, just chill and build your strategy as you go along a story with charming characters. If it gets too hard at some point you can just push the emergency button and grind until you are overleveled.

Not degrading the game
I am pretty bad at video games myself despite playing them for 25 years straight, So I find comfort in playing retro games with simple objectives. Puzzle bobble in particular is a good one, easy stuff

Actually puzzle games. Retards tend to stay clear from them but unlike most games where there is overpopulation of retards. Puzzle games have a deficit of retards. There's just something magical about seeing a sub-brick retard playing baba is you

I know an actual retard who only plays TCG, Puzzle games and Friendslop.

Any Nintendo game.

Well, clearly you're retarded, because that has basically nothing to do with your preferences, which has a lot more to do with whether you want to LARP Napoleon or a space marine than any mechanical consideration. For starters, most contemporary games in particular tend to have an unfailable faceroll difficulty. But also, playing the game ineffectively doesn't mean you couldn't enjoy it: NetHack for example is a game of legendary difficulty, but there's nothing wrong with rolling new characters and dying some bizarre novel death every 20 minutes: simply exploring the massive space of ways to lose can be entertaining (that, or the moment-to-moment gameplay before you fail).

So, basically the question you should be asking is recommendations for games in general. I can give some recommendations (like NetHack, The Ur-Quan Masters, Myth 2, WarCraft 3, Return of Obra Dinn, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, whatever) but without any additional information of your preferences there's no particular reason to suspect your preferences are the same as mine, so on average you're honestly probably better off looking at some list from a mainstream gaming site like IGN (although those tend to be made with nostalgia goggles and people wouldn't actually play the games they list), or looking at bestselling/most played games right now (although those tend to reflect marketing and flavour of the month trends and ignorance of older titles).

Walking simulators, JRPGs, visual novels, any critically acclaimed third person game (God of war, uncharted, tomb raider, Alan Wake, 007 first light, last of us), the Doom games are fine on easy or medium. If these don't sound appealing then the attached list is worth checking out, they all should accommodate you in one way or another.
