Has this ever gone well? Literally every example of it I've seen has always been the literal worst game the developer has ever made and it just exposes that they were hacks who deserved to get fired from their original company.

It's a good game, just as good as any other GBA or DS Castlevania game. You disliking the visuals doesn't change that.
