Most of the stagnation comes from parts where 3D content is added that doesn't need it. 2D interpretation or 2D interfaces like a visual novel (He already has the assets for most of the reoccurring elements) cuts down on the time for implementation and doesn't add onto the colossal fuck of the spaghetti code he has.TL,DR: 80s mode is 6/10 better than the main mode, stop making 3D non-character assets for main sections if you can.
