>grim yawn
That insult makes me yawn
>>
the game is kinda boring and that has mostly to do with the fact that a vast majority of the skills are a glorified auto attack
>>
>>743714102
What builds avoid this? I'm playing primal strike shaman, i thought I would like it more early on when the skill had a cooldown. But then I unlocked the skill that let's you just spam the skill and now I never have to auto attack and every fight is slamming right click
>>
>>743714050
It's not an insult it's a fact this game is boring.
>>
This game kinda sucks but it's the only thing to scratch that Darkspore itch

poo2 fags already bored of the new league? shocking
>>
>>743714050
I liked it.
I'll probably get the expansion.
They need an updated sequel though. I'm not a graphics snob, but Grim dawn is ugly as fuck
>>
aRPGs kind of have to sacrifice graphics for performance. Unless they do the unheard of, make individually powerful enemies like Dark Souls instead of being about cutting down musou-like swarms of weaklings.
>>
>>743714657
>>743714763
Making a sequel won't fix the graphics. Grim Dawn's graphics are fine on a technical level. It's just that their art direction is shit so every area is muddy greens, greys and browns.
>>

>>
>>743720350
GD looks worse than Titan Quest. It's a game from 2006 and it still looks great 20 years later.
>>
My plan is to go zerk/arc and do wereraven spells + sky shard as my main, and then stuff like Sphere of prot, mirror, rallying/bonechilling cry, various passives/buffs as utility.

And then get the 2h sunblade sword from one of the new reps for next char, which is occ/demo.
>>
you could also consider nightblade. but i dunno man i'll probably just mess around with some shit see whether it putters out in the middle or not.
>>
i've had the game since launch, i've gotten al the expacs, but i aways drop the game halway through. i dont know why, i want to enjoy it and i like other arpgs but i always fall off. i've heard ashes is really good too. i think i'm going to try to play through again, should i start now or wait until expansion launches? does berserker look fun or is there an older class combo that might keep my attention for longer?
>>
>>743720826
If you're not interested in berserker, you could start now and probably not be at the new content when it drops. There's plenty of combos with new or old classes, it's hard to say what may keep your attention without knowing your preferences.
>>
>>743720826
You can start now no problem. Berserker will probably be good/fun. Pick something you can combine with berserker, a single class should be enough for a few days. Most classes would work but perhaps
>nightblade
>demolitionist
>shaman
>arcanist
the others are probably also fine

Casters, particularly DoT casters
The same DoT from a different skill can be applied without overwriting. i.e. Poison from Dreeg's Evil Eye and poison from shitpants will stack. As a result, DoT casters do their single target damage by piano keyboarding
>>
>>743721548
Yes, it has godly early levelling with that aether retaliation spell (every proc applies the debuff in an AoE so it annihilates packs), it has good auras and utility for using it as a secondary class (and auto attack enhancers if you're into that gay shit) and some decent spells

I call it Grim Yawn and I like it but it's the most fucking laid back boring chill clicker in existence 90% of the time. If I have one big complaint with Grim Dawn it's that they've always got great pieces of key art and then the game just looks like ass. The one relatively major saving grace is the ragdolls are silly and exaggerated and make using skills that throw them around even more enjoyable. HOWEVER all of that is to say Grim Dawn could use more tits and ass and bombastic sounds/music and they even could do it with graphics in the same style because at this point I'm talking about what COULD be if we changed the past not what COULD be from here onwards you know how time works I think you'll figure it out the point is the only one that didn't have tits on the cover was the base game and the initial art direction ruined a lot
>>
>>743724047
poop2 is just more of poop1, but with a 2 instead
I think I'll end up playing it exactly the same amount as poop1 - which is to say every league, then get bored again and drop it

>>
>>743724672
Some people say that Grim Dawn is a game that gets good dozens of hours in but I really feel like if you don't like it like, after an hour, then you probably never will. I enjoy the game a lot but even as it gets faster paced, the core gameplay loop doesn't really change unlike something like PoE where you go from wailing on enemies one at a time to deleting screens. In Grim Dawn you do eventually kill hoards and bosses have more mechanics and all but at the end of the day your abilities still work the same way and it's just the scale that changes.
>>
what mastery should i combo with nightblade? i don't know if i want to play berserker so i figured i'd start playing now and make a decent amount of progress before fangs comes out
>>
>>743726939
Yeah. It gets a bit faster as you get access to more skills/attack speed/movespeed, but it never turns into the bullshit 5ms per screenclear that PoE popularized. Grim Dawn just isn't that kind of game.
>>
Heard some pretty wild info just casually dropped in a stream. Fangs had the largest number of crate people on it at once, and that number is only 12 people. The entirety of crate is also apparently just 30 people.
>>
>>743726713
Well if you've watched endgame gameplay on youtube, I can tell you that you can get to that speed in like 20 hours or less. Maybe you are not using the available abilities?
>>
>>743726984
Nightblade will combine very well with berserker. I would just stay single class until it comes out so you can enjoy the new class. Although you will start to have a rough time single class at some point if you play a lot in the next 3 days. Otherwise, necro and oathkeeper combine very well with nightblade.
>>
>>743714050
Has anyone ever posted the high quality scan of this picture? I always see the same low resolution JPEG posted every time.
>>
yeah, Crate only expanded their studio when they began working on Farthest Frontier. and it's still only 30 people. makes you realize how insanely bloated AAA studios are where they can fire hundreds but there's still several hundred more.

Wiping screens of trash enemies doesn't do much for me.

Does this game have boss fights with engaging mechanics or are the vast majority/all of them just blow them up before they blow you up? The other games in this genre i've tried (poe/diablo some indie etc) haven't worked for me because instead of having a fun skillset with various tools they usually seem to end up turning into activate 4 auras and spam 1 or 2 skills to annihilate the screen and when you get to bosses just do the same thing.

I figure the genre just isn't for me but i keep trying them for some reason.
>>
>>743726939
I can sort of agree with this, as which class you choose at the start can also heavily weigh in on if you like the game or not. Inquisitor mixed with anything is usually fun to play. Soldier, while strong, is boring as hell to level because most times you'll default to a forcewave build early since you get MI for it very soon and it will stay relevant for a long time before you start getting gear to encourage using other skills.
>>
>>743731352
Grim Dawn enemies are pretty tanky, especially bosses. It's one of the reasons PoEtards hate it so much. They're not that engaging mechanically though. The minor bosses are stat blobs and the major bosses have a rotation of five or six skills, including one or two that you have to avoid or suffer massive damage / death.
>>
>>743731352
if you're looking for elding rangz and dank souls bossing then poe is the game you want. not classic diablo and it's various clones which are mostly just hit the big meat stick while chugging pots and maybe disengaging now and then from pools of damage.
>>
>>743731352
You face tank all the bosses while spamming your only skill
>>
>>743732189
I don't really like the new style of bosses that a lot of modern arpgs are going where instead a lot of bosses have fixed points in their health where you can't burn them down. You're forced to watch their animation and phase change even though you know you already won, but the game still makes you sit there twiddling your thumbs until you can "officially" kill the boss.

>>
>>743729792
I don't see how it's good with anything. It kinda sucks that transformations ignore WPS stuff. Onslaught is OK, I guess, but requires a cooldown ability, which the tree doesn't have for some reason, outside of that leap. The other stuff seems OK at best unless I'm missing something.

It's been a while, will I have to play the campaign 3 times in the new expansion or is there an item that allows you to do it only once? I remember something like that
>>
I can't explain this but while I keep having fun with Grin Dawn, it's always restricted to early portion of the game - first "act" in those swamps or something, still in and around second town but once I reach the final section with ruined city, I always start to get bored. But if I would make new characters, it's fun again. Someone got an idea?

This however also means I never even played expansions - they are designed with post-game characters in mind. And I'm honestly very against the idea of "post-game is real game" present in H&S games for so long. Second Diablo was so popular and fun precisely because whole gameplay was designed to be fun, not just "post-game" on third or something cycle with maxed level. Sadly, many autists insist otherwise.
>>
>>743735997
There is, but it's not easy to start naked on the last difficulty, you need to have items in shared stash from other characters to help you.

Oh and I honestly think that whole "mastery" system is designed wrong by having players pump points into "mastery bar" to unlock skills in first place. As a result I finish the game (as in, by killing final boss) without even touching second class skills because I would need to otherwise pump tons of points into another bar. Second class might as well not exist at all. Holy shit, it's like 80% of skill points in total goes into those bars!

>But you get enough points if you do NG++ and explore every corner and do every side quest!
And game is truly over by that moment since you did 100% of what you could. What's the fucking point?

>>
>>743736238
The final section of the city is just a slog in itself. It's a long uninteresting dungeon filled with square rooms and corridors taking place in a basement larger than the city itself and despite being annoying to get through it's very linear with basically nothing to hide. It's my least favourite part of starting a new character. Once you push past it you can continue the base game or go into the Forgotten Gods expansion which are both a much better time immediately when you get there.

mastery bar system is so dumb, It means I have like 4 skills at most at max level and 3 of them are auto attack buffs.

And if I want to fuck around and experiment, I can't, once you invested in a class that's it and if you want to play with the skills, well you need 1000000000000000000 "iron" to reset the skills.

did you even look at the skills, almost all of them target multiple enemies.
and you can put one point into shadow strike and get an instant gap-closer and you can even get another one later with a rune augment.
early on you might still want to use something like ring of steel to clear mobs faster, but once the build gets going it can shred through anything with ease

Because Grim Dawn is a project of a Titan Quest guy, it uses the same engine and systems, and the devs understand Titan Quest much better than whoever was hired by Nordic to make the new DLCs. People are bound to make a subconscious connection.
>>
>>743714102
I don't play a lot of Arpgs, but I agree. It dosn't have generated maps, instead it's generated boulders, wth?

It also has these challenge dungeons, but you need to make a key to get in, and once you are in, you MUST beat the dungeon. If you leave, you get kicked out. You die, you get kicked out. If you want to try again you have to make another key, and the materials for making those stupid keys don't exactly grow on trees either.

The thing I liked about the game was that you can respec your characters easily and try different builds. That's something the developers at PoE could learn from.
>>
>>743748868
Ops, I forgot to mention another thing. Those challenge dungeons are usually far, far, faaar away, and there is no bus stop or taxi in-game, so you have to run aaaaaaaaalll the way back if you want to try again.

easy to pick a second mastery based on one or two of these damage types
it also brings

>DA shred and 4 different resistance reductions in one skill
>crit damage
>transformation damage conversions
and a movement skill too
you could pair it with anything just for the stat boosts

Pick the nightblade and get the veil of shadow talent, upgrade it with the nights chill talent, then get the shadowstrike skill. Now you delete everything around you while speeding across the map nonstop. Couldnt make it faster if you tried. Later on you get two sword pets that fuck up everything that doesnt die instantly to your fart aura.

>>
>>743753425
afaik they should work independent of the skill/tree. "onslaught stacks" are their own mechanic, onslaught itself is just a skill that generates them already (and generates the most)
you might get the +maximum stacks from the onslaught tree applied to any skill you give onslaught stacks though, I'm dying to try it out
the logic behind the onslaught stack modifiers that I'm aware of was the lack of use of cooldown skills as main skills in endgame builds, so now you can actually use a filler skill to boost the damage of your main skill bigly
>>
there has to be some truth to it though. every time i've played grim dawn it's been boring as shit. even torchlight 2 is more fun to go back and replay. and that game is pretty slow paced at the start.

I only see that game mentioned in GD threads, I don't think it even got a general ever. Sad! I like the skill system and making new characters but the endgame is just a generic mapping system 15 years of updates behind PoE so it feels really boring.

>>
>>743755182
that is literally every arpg in existence including grim dawn
>>
>>743755093
>and god damn the balance is terrible
I don't think there's a single ARPG right now with worse balance. LE is the only game I've played where the top tiers builds will push to fucking 10k corruption or someshit while 98% of builds will barely get past 200 corruption because their numbers are just pure dogshit.
What LE does have is the absolute best loot filter system in the genre.
>>
>>743755386
i just really hate that the genre is play the meta or get fucked because everything is designed to challenge the top end of meta autists
like i said it would be fine if devs could balance, but theres always a couple builds that rape everything and the rest are in the dust
always find it funny how poe autists are always claiming "yeah bro you can just make your own build! its not that complicated!" like you wont get hard locked out of 90% of the content

What I dont understand about this game is, if trash mobs are a complete faceroll and bosses are the only "highlights" of the game, why not make boss fight mechanics enjoyable rather than borderline unfair sometimes, but then remedy that with the fact that you can die 20 times and still come back to chip away a bit of health from the boss until you completely kill him. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?
Sure bosses regenerate some of their health, but still...

We'll see how it plays out in a day I guess, but that explanation doesn't completely make sense. Why put points into onslaught itself besides damage obviously when it maxes out at 5 stacks if you can put points into endless rage for +5 onslaught stacks. Or some random set giving you +11 stacks at once. Maybe without the onslaught skill they will be consumed 1 or 3 stacks per cast instead of all at once because panetti at 170% damage plus +165% from onslaught will melt everything.

How do weapon procs interact with each other? Can more than one happen in a single 'attack'? Or does investing in too many end up wasting points because if one fires, it blocks the others until the animation completes?
>>
>>743757846
Procs on gear happen independently of one another, weapon pool skills (those that proc off your default attack) activate one at a time and are added to a single pool, chances normalised to 100% if over.
>>
>>743755573
I think a lot of people play Grim Dawn because you can actually take whatever you want into everything except the most end game of end game content if you know what you're doing. The worst shit is at least workable which isn't true of other games. It's the upside of having so many skills function so rigidly.

>you can do that in poe easily
I haven't played PoE in quite a while, so maybe something has changed?
But back when I used to play PoE, which was years ago, you had to find Orbs of Regret, and they only return 1 (one) skill point instead of all of them, and the drop rate for them was abysmal. I reached maps and had to quit because my build wasn't strong enough for the last level of maps, and just kept dying and losing my xp. So I had to try and respec my character. But it probably would've taken me years of farming Orbs of Regret to get enough for a full respec. Not going to waste my time on that.

But maybe they changed it now so that Orbs of Regret restores all your skill points?
>>
>>743763201
you can respec with gold now
>>
>>743763201
So TL;DR: It's only "easy" to respec in PoE1 after you reach Maps and farm up a bunch of Gold.
