I've never played Monster Hunter, but both these are on sale right now and I want to play one. Which one is better? Also I don't have friends, are these co-op games that suck if you don't have friends?
>>
>>743723876
world is massively better and you can easily do everything solo
>>
>>743723876

Rise.
>>
>>743723876
Base Wilds is better than base World, but Iceborne is like 5 bucks right now
>>
>>743723876
The Answare is Generations Ultimate wich is one of the best games in history, is basically the compendium of MH.
Than there is World wich is a great game, the next generation of MH with improoved combat, great graphic, great new monsters, great footprint tracking that make you feel like a real hunter, nice housing and little creature collection, is a game that has magic.
Than there is Rise wich is a sort of "oriental themed spinoff" it could become your favourit with the mobility in the combat but is nothing special compared to World.
And than there is Wilds, a disgracefull braindead mobile game with 0 charisma, 0 difficulty, 0 variety.
Side quests? Eliminated, the profession is now linear and monotonous.
Silly quest descriptions that made the world come alive? Eliminated.
Cutscenes of cats cooking? Eliminated.
Footprints tracking? Eliminated, now you see all the monsters on the map as if you had a GPS.
You don't need to learn the map because the mount goes automatically, this makes the world less immersive.
Pre-battle preparation? No need anymore, monsters no longer have elemental resistances, only weaknesses.
Is not a Monster Hunter but a Monster Fighter.
This is a really terrible game, the director is a fucking idiot.
>>
>>743723876
Get world+iceborne. Runs better, more than twice as much shit to do, and better game overall. The game is more fun with friends but the solo scaling isn't terrible because you get an AI cat companion that heals and draws aggro for you. Main tip I'll offer is avoid using the Defender gear, it's designed for skipping the first half the game for people who wanted to get straight to the DLC.
>>
>>743723876
I'm also interested. I read that some people say that Wilds needs the DLC to be complete, just like world needed iceborn. But I actually don't know why?
>>
>>743724438
>>743724607
I do plan on getting the DLC. So world is better? Which one has a better character creator?
>>
>>743724679
Monster Hunter typically has three mission difficulties; Low Rank, High Rank, and G-Rank/Master Rank. That last one is typically in the DLC, and has upgraded monster movesets, unique monsters, the most powerful equipment, and the tools to push the limits of what builds are available. It's the capstone version of what the game can offer, which is why Low/High rank feel incomplete without it despite being the entirety of the main story.
>>
>>743724687
>So world is better?
No, but World and Iceborne is pretty cheap, Wilds is gettin a permanent discount in august if you want to play the current game

After playing wilds, its just worlds2 but exchange Handler for alma
And i hate alma, so i like wilds. No kitchen is fuckin aids tho
>>
>>743725310
No, it's not "just worlds 2". Pretty much the opposite of anything like that.
You can't even post correctly.
>>
World since it doesn't run like shit. Play Wilds when they fix the performance.
>>
>>743723876
Why the fuck are you asking this when Wilds has an expansion coming soon? Just wait for that. Buy World + Iceborne if it's stupid cheap.
>>
>>743725310
You sound like a person that didn't play either game.
>>
>>743723876
World has daily player peaks higher than milds. If you decide to play Milds, play it after World because Milds is the game that heavily casualized the identity of monster hunter with it's faggy new gimmick features (focus mode and wounds).

What I would do
>world
>after you beat the main story through iceborne download the crutch claw removal and hitzone modifier mods to play the game play more like it did before the crutch claw existed
>do all the side content this way
>then go play rise
>then try milds and see how bad the performance is, how ugly the game looks, how piss easy it is, and then come back to world

Wow good news then, switch emulation has been perfect for ages now!
>>
>>743725813
Does it work on Linux? I need to get into Emulation some day (I never beat Metroid Fusion and a Link to The Past) but today is not that day.
>>
>>743726015
Yes, that's the Linux build.
>>
>>743726015
Yes, just get the Eden Emulator AppImage and the Keys/Firmware for Switch and play. There is Ryujinx in the AppStore.

>You can also get GearLever and just drag and drop the Eden AppImage on it, for easy integration.
>>
>>743724323
fpbp vvorld is like 7 years old and has almost the same player base kek
milds is pozzed, casualized and runs like shit
I hope the expansion fixes it somewhat, so far I haven't even pirated it and I have played all mh games since FU
I even got a Piss4 pro just to play world (then sold that garbage when world came out on PC)
>>
>>743723876
play FU or 3U
>>
How's Wilds solo? Don't have any friends to play it with

legitimately easier than playing with randos even if you dont use the AI hunters. still not fun

only good thing about wilds is choosing NOT to play wilds but SF6 Akuma instead, only saving grace for me in this dumb game.
>>
I'd recommend World, but the unskippable story cutscenes might be a turnoff for any newcomers to the franchise
>>
>>743723876
Just play World. It's very big, it's very fun and it's a solid intro for new players. Runs great on Linux, and no Denuvo.
>>
>>743724394
This
>>
>>743723876
I played Wilds first and it felt like the whole game was playing itself for me. Never had to manage any resources, never had to grind for a piece of equipment, never had to worry about settling camps and cooking the right meals even into high rank where the game start open itself a bit.
I tried Worlds afterward and it was exactly what I kept waiting for Wilds to be. You actually have to engage with most of the mechanics. You actually have to make specific sets of items for specific monsters, or send palicos searching for 1 missing small monster parts to craft a particular piece of gear. Also the story is very basic, doesn't try much and is never at odds with the gameplay loops, there's a few cuscene but they're all very short. Rise is fun it's too japanese for me.
>>
>>743728402
cutscenes in world are like 30 seconds long lol
wilds is a whole ass movie

That mod doesn't fix the need to watch every monster intro before multiplayer is enabled. Shouldn't be a problem for OP, but anyone who buys the game expecting a cool co-op experience will be incredibly frustrated
>>
>>743726336
heh i bought a switch only to play rise but i ended up really liking gu so i didnt resell it, cool little console i wish it had more real games.
>>
Well I got World and I don't think it's for me. I don't know if I'm retarded bet the combat is clunky as fuck. Games like DMC1 and Dark Souls have buttery smooth combat in comparison. I might refund it, thanks for the advice anyway everyone.
>>
>>743726562
Hunter helpers are as good if not better than real players on low rank and most of high rank, they become kind of useless in the end game so if you dont have a decent build by that point hunts are going to take longer than they should do, in my opinion wilds is as easy as world to solo but idk what you would think.

I also really loved akuma moveset, sadly crapcom is full of cocksuckers and we didnt get ryu and chun li, hell dan would fit as a goofy hunter helper or palico custom, also why not add chalenging characters like resident evil protags that can only use resident evil arsenal, i really like the idea of completely alien playstyles for mh but the team doesnt believe enough in it.
>>
>>743728402
There is a mod that allows you to skip every single custscene.
>>
>>743731935
I mean what's the appeal? Also it feels like it's not a solo game.
>>
>>743731836
>he didnt try every single weapon
how did you even complete a single dark souls with this mindset.
>>
You should play Wilds because the DLC is coming out within a year and the largest online playerbase will be playing that.

You can play World whenever you want, no idea why you'd go for the inferior version of the two almost identical games. If you were saying rise or wilds then we would be having a conversation.
>>
>>743731935
>ladies
You silly boy! :3

Real women don't even exist in /v/.
>>
>>743731836
The combat is clunky as fuck. Where Dark Souls expects you to roll through attacks, Monster Hunter expects you to wind up large attacks so they land exactly where the monster's tail/head or weak point whatever is.
>>
>>743731731
yeah world really fucked up the coop experience
no idea why village and hub weren't a separate thing like every other fucking game
>>
>>743731494
Nah son, replay world from the beggining

It takes about 40 mins to get to the first actual hunt

For all of wild's problems it only takes 5 if you skip the opening cinematic
>>
>>743723876
World + Iceborne
>>
>>743731543
Not the walk and talk sections
>>
>>743732015
Dark Souls was really straight forward, you just walk at people and hit rb or rt, and then you dodge into attacks not away from them.

The game just might not be my style.
>>
>>743723876
relink
>>
Wilds is better than people here say but i would wait until next year for the expansion

World+iceborne will keep you occupied for at least a couple months, then you've got rise ans sunbreak, or if you want to be an absolute chad get Generations ultimate for the switch
>>
>>743732268
Picked that up after i saw a thread saying it totally mogged wilds

And its pretty good but nobody warned me about the cringe as fuck anime story which you have to suffer anout 15 hours through before getting to the real game
>>
>>743731997
The appeal is system mastery and coming to understand each monster and each weapon like they're old friends. Your first MH is the hardest and it'll likely take 20+ hours to really get your feet under you, but that's the gateway to a series that you can play for a thousand hours and not get bored. There's weapons that are methodical and patient, weapons that want you to act like a spastic savant, weapons that let you ignore common limitations like 'standing where the monster can hit you' and 'gravity'. It starts slow so that you can learn the basic movement and the flow of the areas in a low-pressure environment before you're having to do it while one monster is laying down pools of lava, another is trying to ram you into paste, and a third is flying above dropping explosive scales on both you and the monsters.

Tangentially related, is Wild Hearts any good?
>>
>>743732450
I don't recall conversation on it being good or not so much as being flat-out unplayable due to even worse PC optimization than Wilds. No clue if that was specific to a particular launcher and/or fixed.

>Rise kept the village and hub separate, allowing you to hop into co-op straight out of character creation
>Sunbreak keeps it as a single thing, but all story content happens in-between quests and can be quickly skipped through
I had my qualms about the Portable team in the past, but I'm convinced they understand the importance of co-op for MH way better than the mainline team does
>>
>>743732450
Its fun when you stop trying to play it like an MH game and actually use the building mechanivs and shit
>>
>>743732450
lol up there with relink the game never really was given a chance to have any type of success its better then wilds for sure

Forget World. It's outdated jank now.

Wilds is literally the most beautiful videogame ever made with a deep story and characters that'll make you feel feels like never before and gameplay that's welcoming to everyone from new gamers to experienced hunters alike.

Wilds is a creative masterpiece full of SOUL. You can really feel the love and attention the devs put into it.
>>
>>743732217
World had those, too. Not as much as Wilds did, but they were there
>>
>>743732139
Worlds has like 3 tutorial mission before you go and hunt the big jagras then everything is mostly settled. In Wilds the whole game feels like a tutorial, there's no side quest until like 5 hour into the game and there's no point to interact with any of the deeper mechanics until high rank.
>>
>>743732608
the only ones I remember is during the tutorial and the ironic "best" quest
>>
>>743723876
World has it's expansion AND all the updates
Wilds is justa base game with no expansion
MH games aren't good until the expansion
>>
>two nuMH threads at the same time
let me guess, first quarterly report is dropping today and Capcom is getting desperate again
>>
>>743732450
it's really good but it has subpar performance and the controls take some getting used to.
The biggest design blunder is build variety.

The game should've been in the oven half a year longer but it probably would've failed either way because people don't care about good game anymore.
>>

Base game
>PS3 graphics
>Retarded interface
>Every low rank monster dies in 2 hits
>Every low rank monster deals 0 damage
>Unskippable walking segments
>Infinite restocking so it's impossible to die
>Power Clash is literally just a 3 sec cutscene that wastes your time and doesn't do anything
>No cat cooking
>Weather system serves no purpose other than to make the game worse
>Like 95% of set bonuses are useless
>The "endgame" consists of hunting the same apexes because, for whatever reason, Capcom refuses to make every monster 9star tempered
>9 star tempered monsters oneshot you and have more HP than Fatalis so G rank will feel like a cake walk
>The "reward" for killing 9stars is gacha talismans that give you skills (even though we already have too many skills)
>No HR final boss
>Artian system makes 99% of weapons in the game useless (lmao)
>Collaboration is not even a monster but some generic colorless robot
>You can use NPC hunters on monsters but them carting doesn't count so it's literally just cheating
>Underwater combat
>Less monsters than MH2 and 4 in base game
>No MH language
>First flop in franchise's history
Is this the worst game of all time?

G rank
>Created by the director of Exoprimal (game no one ever played)
>Gimmick that makes your weapon useless unless you use it
>Nothing about the game is fixed
>Overuse of Elder Dragons
It's over
>>
>>743723876
World/Iceborne is so much bang for your buck, unfortunately I don't think you'd be able to decide if you want to refund it in time, and if you can the series isn't for you really. Hopefully you have fun, I'd recommend finding strangers. Rise has 4 player lobbies so, personally, I think it makes it easier to hunt with people at a similar level and I think the game is best experienced co-op, but World is definitely a great start.
