If the warp sensitive Tau auxiliaries were able to give birth to a warp entity that works in service of the Tau empire then why the fuck did the Eldars end up giving birth to a chaos god that wants to eat their souls? Wouldn't the logic dictate that either Tau'va should also screw over the auxiliaries or Slaanesh should have been the ultimate Eldar slut?

because the Tau auxiliaries have been "yay, greater good!" and the ancient Eldar have been "yay, western degeneracy".

Slaanesh hates her creators because at the moment of it's birth to divinity, the Eldar en mass recoiled in horror, terror and disgust at what their debauchery had created, which in turn made Slaanesh eternally vengeful towards the Eldar.

The Cain books are a canonical self parody in which this guy goes around getting ridiculously lucky while wading through a nightmare horror setting.
The books are in universe written by his girlfriend, who embellishes the stories for the sake of propaganda.
The actual depth in the setting is quite literal and comes from the connections and interactions between everyone. Like, first you see space marines fighting orks, then you laugh at silly ork machinery, then you figure out the reason their schitzoid scraptech works is because they are all wizards, then you realize the reason they are all wizards is because the old ones engineered a mushroom they found into a magical self reproducing bioweapon, then you realize the reason the warp is so fucked is because said bioweapon is violent as fuck and started a chain, self reinforcing reaction by pumping pure violent thought into the immaterial realm.
Warhammer is also a bit of an outlier in that the gods were created by mortals, not the other way around. Except of course the one exception which is the cult mechanicus, who are the one and only monotheists in the setting that.
And so on and so on. It's a big setting where everything builds on top of everything else for half a century now.
It's just the retcons that keep resetting shit and making less interesting.

Pariahs were always a crushing minority of their forces, they made them out of humans with the pariah gene who are already unbelievably rare on their own, so they had to catch one and transform them.
Neither oldcrons nor soicrons could or can replenish their losses, but it's very difficult to actually destroy a cron permanently, as with enough damage they just phase away to their tomb to be repaired. You basically have to blow up the entire tomb complex the erase them for good

Necrons cannot truly die. If the necrodermis itself is unable to self-repair an injury, the damaged necron is phased out into a resurrection gallery where the necrodermis is repaired and the necron can be deployed again.

They have no need to replenish their numbers because none of them are ever truly lost, just damaged beyond self-repair capacity.

if you look at the map of the galaxy it should be obvious that humanity must be getting wins somewhere or the imperium wouldn't still be standing or even expanding in some directions

the big dramatic space marine set pieces happen in the locations where this isn't the case, by necessity

the Cain novels document conflicts where the guard is able to handle it for the most part, because if they got wiped every time you couldn't get a recurring cast.
>>
>>743739803
You're right, and that anon is retarded, but we need to explain further. The books and lore and even games that secondaries jerk off over are all nonsensical poorly written garbage fires that are only remotely cool when experienced in a vacuum because the "setting" is a narrative mess without an ounce of cohesion because ALL of it exists solely to sell plastic toys, which is all GW cares about.
>>
>>743739910
This game has a severe case of it works on my machine. AMD support in particular was never good.
That said, I have SM2 and Vermintide 2 and Darktide, I'd definitely rank Darktide lowest.
SM2 has a thoroughly enjoyable single player campaign, Darktide has the largest variety of shooting gameplay and Vermintide has the best melee gameplay. I lost interest in shooting pretty quickly and Darktide also has the worst technical performance.
Also sprinting and sliding got annoying really quickly.

Yeah, the books in general are fucking garbage with fanfiction.net tier writers behind the storylines. There are the few occasional decent books here and there but the bulk of what Black Library puts out is just embarassing shit. Especially when the authors use those books to push their own pet issues be it wankery over their favorite faction or worse, their fetishes or daddy issues etc. The only overall decent writing in 40k is in the codexes and especially the older rulebooks because the more detatched and less character driven narratives and exploration of the setting in the format of those books generally shields them from the worst shit BL authors tend to end up writing in their more narrative novels. Plus for actual hobby enthusiasts who collect the models, paint them and play games with them, the lore of the setting is just a springboard for making your own stuff anyways. Plenty of people just make their own color schemes for their armies and come up with some lore for their dudes etc and in my opinion that is where the soul of the hobby is.

Also it would deprive Britain of one of its major exports, which would be funny. For whatever reason Britain is the man producer of every plastic model range on the planet, and that should change considering who the biggest buyer is. Americans. Americans should own and produce it, not retards that worship bend over for muslims and are now letting them call the shots on what their culture is.

There wasn't. You propably don't even fucking own the first necron codex. It is thin as fuck, and ultimately there is barely anything there besides vague allusions GW tries to build with the half baked C'tan lore that at the time of it's introduction was extremely sloppy and basically just introduced yet another series of asshole gods but this time they were also star vampires. The og C'tan and their necron slaves had thinner fucking lore than the god damn Tau or the Leagues of Votan when they were introduced. GW reworking the Necron concept and giving more agency to the actual necrons than the C'tan was a good corrective measure to the original half assed lore, and the way they handled the C'tan by turning them into shards sort of like Avatars of Kaine are mere fractions of the power of the shattered Eldar god of War, got rid of the fucking retarded nonsense where supposed gods of the Necrons are wieldable units on the battlefield that can be killed by a space marine with a melta bomb.

The "new"cron lore is a wholesale improvement on the old lore, anyone who has actually read both and isn't some dipshit secondary that got their ideas of what necrons are from memes and Dawn of War would agree with me.

You mean in TW40K? That was the original plan. CSM, SM, Eldar and Orks, IG only as npcs. DoW1 again. That's how we heard about it from first Valrak's leaks

CSM were then cucked out of a base game by IG which were expanded from their NPC status. Probably so there aren't 3 Elite factions and only 1 Horde faction with numbers fitting Total War. This is important for Total War, see how many people are malding about 5 models in Space Marine units already. IG were then designed as a traditional Total War faction. Orks are 2nd most similar to Total War playstyle faction. Eldar and Marines are Elite and very different to what TW playerbase is used.

Honestly, I think it was a good call ultimately

Grab a couple codices from the general on /tg/ and flip through them. See what looks cool to you.
>>
>>743741284
The problem I felt with TW:WH was that it started off strong with very asymmetric factions which made it interesting then as they began to add more factions, the asymmetry just fades as each newly added faction tends to recycle systems from existing factions, eventually running out of ideas to create mechanically distinct factions, thus leading to overlap and no unique identity for any faction at all.

>>743740574
I disagree, I think they would treat it more precious than Britain does. The only reason there has been pushback on the bullshit they keep doing is because vocal Americans voice dissent and have the freedom to do so. >>

Imperial cult is uber-christianity in it's spread.
Where normally in Europe some pagan traditions had to be integrated for christianity to ever take hold.
In 40k you're a lucky backwater if you got that treatment and else everything is getting steamrolled especially if it's a shrine world.

Ultramar which is literally the realm of ultramarines is wholly embbed within the imperial cult. And space marines are one of the factions who have atheistic immunity keeping imperial truth of old. The recruits just get psycho-indoctrinated back away from imperial cult as far as I read.

3rd Edition Cron leaders already had personality and retained intelligence, even if it was damaged (just like now)
This is why in Dark Crusade Necron Lord has plans of his own and in Soulstorm normally talks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFE5ct0aiH0 Which makes it particularly absurd that DoWfags complain about Necrons and talking and having personalities
C'tan were nonsensical before retcon, which was the actual retcon, not the talking and personalities. They were too weak for a godlike beings, which was fixed with them being merely shattered and enslaved shards and it didn't make sense for Necrons to win the War in Heaven, when lore stated that Eldar ruled galaxy for 60 000 000 years, so it was fixed by changing them to losers there

Overall, a net positive improvement

There are no original ideas, humanity has been around longer than written text, the stories have been told, you just have to come up with different ways and styles of telling them.

The fact that Warhammer condensed all that cool shit into a setting is rad as hell, not something to deride. I wish more creative properties would do the same. Noone is so creative that they can come up with a wholly unique concept, just look at what works and figure out how to apply it in a way that makes sense and is coo. You can absoloutely make something like Warhammer in America, from aesthetics to ideology.

It is the case even in Rogue Trader cRPG. You can talk to Xenos with your translator or disable and talk to Marazhai in particular since he knows Gothic language, but no matter what player reads it as English and same with Xenos talking between each other.
This same is a thing in DoW, where you can play their specific campaigns and you read those in English... or any other language in which your game is. This is basic fantasy gimmick storytelling anon. Our language are just so we as players can understand it

>>
>>743753709
Nope. Copy Helldivers or EDF, have different fronts with different enemies to fight, and picking different classes plays as a different kind of character. Like Fencer is a space marine, ranger is just a guard captain that can lead a bunch of guys around, air raider is a tech priest etc etc.

I want big, loud and stupid. I want to be chased around by orks on bikes as captain players try to keep their men alive by issuing commands and leading men like pikmin as the space marine player twats the shit out of an ork nob that just called in reinforcements where the ork reinforcements are just drop pods that crash from the sky and pour out orks that all shout WAAAGH as some orchestral music plays, then the tech priest player rage quits and joins the tyrannid front because they want to fuck around with a tank and crush bugs for fun. Im sick of small scale skirmishes, there is a lot of cool shit in the setting that you will never see because they have focus on one or two factions and you never use vehicles or orbitals.

What are you talking about?
There are as many imperial cults as there are worlds. Whatever traditions there were on a world the Emperor got stapled onto it. Shrine worlds and pilgrimage sites regularly feature battles between various groups on how to venerate the Emperor.
It's all much less standardized as one thinks. Not all Sobs are from the Our Martyred Lady order just as not every regiment is Cadian or chapter Ultramarine.
Pay your tithe and worship the Emperor, everything else is interchangeable.

>implying that your worthless tertiary ass even owns a single necron model from the first codex era they got.

You didn't choose enslaved space terminators either dipshit, you played necrons in dawn of war or worse, got your ideas about them from fucking memes. The og necron lore was sloppy and actively contradicted previously established lore about the history of the 40k galaxy. The original versions of the C'tan were fucking retardedly written and had massively inconsistent power level in their lore vs how they were featured on the tabletop. GW changing their lore and giving the Necrons themselves agency is an objective fucking improvement on the lore of both the necrons and the c'tan.

The most retarded element of you tertiaries is the fact that you can STILL fucking run the mindless space terminator shit with the updated necron lore, that type of necrons are still entirely viable in the setting. The only thing that changed for that approach is that the C'tan in your armies just shards of the star gods rather than being fully embodied star gods that can still get gibbed by a fucking predator tank etc.
Then again, expecting you dipshits to be aware of this is kind of silly because you fucks don't actually fucking play 40k, nor do you even read the fucking codexes of the factions you supposedly like.

DoW2 singleplayer is basically Diablo, but you control 4 units instead of 1
Multi/skirmish is microintesive RTT

There is a bigger focus on singleplayer than in DoW1 admittedly. You have big customization of your squads and a lot of characters and dialogue.
Chaos Rising and Retribution missions are more unique than base DoW2.
It's a very different game
>>
>>743759398
Weird. What an interesting choice. Glad to see it actually has fleshed out single player at least the last 2 expansion for DoW 1 have not been horribly interesting outside playing with the new factions kits

Kind of. It has classic campaign but you only get a handful of squads that you use every time and some of the maps are repeated. People who love Company of Heroes loved DoW2 but I could never get into it.
>>
>>743759298

Because the way GW did it still still allowed people wield their C'tan models they bought and painted you fucking retard. Instead of squatting the models entirely from the game, they merely changed their lore a bit. All things considered it was an elegant solution that gave the necrons desperately needed customization options and depth in their lore while still retaining the previous elements of their lore in a more overall setting compatible and sensible form.

Skirmish is more like CoH. But Singleplayer is more like Diablo. You will see. You basically have 6 unique, premade characters in it, 7 in Chaos Rising, then 4 in Retribution (but all factions are playable, not only Marines), but you can use generic units again in addition to uniques.
Those unique characters are in squads accompanied by units. You loot gear and weapons and level up those Characters. You slaughter your way through the map essentially in those singleplayer missions.
>>
>>743759783
It removed everything great about dawn of war to me. we want from having great VA to medicore ones, sync kills to having noone at all, giving each squad different weapons to make them versatile to just a upgrade that gives everyone plasma etc. the titan units looked great but i am not gonna play moba dressed in a dow skin with jumping terminators

Also I recently listened to The Infinite and The Divine and The Twice Dead King duology, so I'm a bit more knowledgeable on Necrons and interested in trying them out in the campaign

everyone has guns
melee is only for weirdo factions, the overwhelming majority of the roster will consist of ranged units which is just not how TW games have functioned up to this point
the fronts are also huge, they picked a good setting for the game, but most wars in 40k take place on the scale of numerous star systems, not just a single planet
it is also extremely rare for more than 2-3 factions to show up to the party at once

You can have as many flavors as you want as long as they're good. Nids are boring animals that don't deserve a spot amongst real factions like orks, humans, eldar, chaos, etc. Even the T'au have more going on. Sure, there might eventually be some fleshing out of the nid hivemind, but they've only had a couple decades to do that and have not done so in any way. Until that happens, they're a boring nothing faction that practically needs a rewrite. My #1 thing is just make it clear that they haven't eaten like 200 galaxies or some shit; that the nids we have are 60%+ of the nids that exist. Them being totally infinite makes them less interesting.

Low gothic is plain english
Any novel that uses wordplay in-universe confirms as much. See for example Penitent from Bequin novels in which a characters misunderstand plain french words for similar sounding english ones. The french words are treated as an ancient terran language while the english ones are simply their common "gothic" language
>>

The concept of nids is more interesting than the concept of orks, yes. Orks are of course more "interesting" on an individual level. But the thing is that one shouldn't even consider Nids a faction of individuals but one entity that presents itself through a multitude.

GW could definitely do more with the hivemind, but just the implication of there existing something so impossibly beyond even the chaos gods is in itself a titillating prospect, and I feel like expanding on that could lessen the sheer awe of it all.
>>
>>743731804
The eye of terror book was pretty fun
I liked how the main reason humanity dominated the galaxy was entirely down to the Astronomicon letting them do longer warp jumps
It's depiction the imperial world as bland ultra no-fun allowed planets, was a nice take, and it was funny how the street punks who attack the protagonist were seen as rebellious for not wearing competently gray clothing.
There are a big coincidences in the book, some happening thousands of years ago, make you think something must be manipulating events to the outcome we get, but you've got no concentrate answer if it's the Emperor or one of the chaos goods, since they all arguably have a motive to bring about the final outcome.
The depictions of the eye of terror, where deamons act like minor gods toying with entire planets of slaves, and areas have their own strange gimmicks and rules, like one planet where water acted like air to outsiders, was really cool. Chaos was still evil but it wasn't just one dimensional murder-rape, with lot's of different flavors.

Thinking about it could make for a good FTL style rouge-like

If the Eldar are allowed to be split into "the good ones" and "the evil ones" then the Necrons should also have been allowed to have different internal factions.
1. Nu-crons who are Tomb Kings in space that overthrew the C'Tan. They want to reclaim what was lost and rebuild their old empire.
2. Broken C'Tan shards that still reign over their enslaved necron. Free, but insane. They want to reunite with their lost shards and eventually enslave/wipe out all life in the galaxy.
3. Old-crons who are just terminators that are still on kill mode from the War in Heaven. They mindlessly exterminate everything in their way while looking for Eldar and Orks.

Stopped reading there.

Jesus christ 4chan is full of secondaries. NEWCRONS HAVE HAD ALL OF THAT SINCE THE RETON YOU FUCKING IDIOT! Entire tomb worlds where the central AI deleted the memory and personality of its Necrons to use them as soldiers to expand its own influence have been around since day 1. C'tan shards pulling strings and taking control of tombs happens regularly, Necrons drop everything to team up and jump them if they find out about it since they take C'tan more seriously anything.

They have had all of this since the beginnging, and of all those concepts the bickering politics and regretful immortals were by far the most popular of all the concepts, hence why they keep getting books and focus.

Anon, you can't expect people to actually read the fluff. It is hard enough getting people to read the fucking rules half the time.

Yeah, all the old stuff is technically still there in the lore they just try not to draw any attention to it. Similar to how the Slaanesh-adjacent Dark Eldar do a bunch of horrid shit that is only barely even alluded to and is just never described anymore and just vaguely described as "torture".

I've got too many 40k/warhammer games to play as it is.
Seems like it has decent reviews however.

This. Shit, the most popular division among the necrons is one faction wanting to regain organic bodies again vs one that thinks staying machines is the way to go. In Orikan's case, it goes even further because he wants to ascend into a being of pure energy (permanently, instead of his limited bursts of super saiyan power).

Fuck nucrons.
Fuck the game.
Not buying.
Not pirating.

I'm starting the think Necron hate are imperialfags that want them to be the center of the attention while everything else is a mindless hoard enemy to be taken down.

Not really. It's okay, but there's nothing special at all about it that will keep you hooked. The multiplayer is dead and there is no single player campaign, so it's just you vs bots.

I don't really mind either way in regards to necrons being quiet or having personalities, but the necrons beating the c'tan and busting them up into shards is a good thing, and it's good explicitly because they have models.
Imagine being a fucking god older than time itself, who isn't shafted by needing sacrifices and believers to have a form and power like Chaos gods do, and you fuck off into the field of battle to show off your might only to get merked by a gretchin that got lucky. How fucking embarrassing is that? At least as c'tan shards you could always handwave it as them not being at their full power.
