Are racing games a boomer genre now?Young people don't seem to care about cars, and manufacturers don't seem to be making cars worth caring about.
>>743741609PGR4 was the fucking shit. That was my favorite arcade racer next to the Underground games. It was literally a bunch of carbros who just added cool shit into the game and nothing else. Forza eventually overtook it because "muh sim racers" meme.

>>743742001Forza Motorsport 4 is the best one. Had the most amount of content by far and was made by the most competent T10 team. After 4, they let a bunch of guys go and we ended up getting 5 which fucked up a lot of the engine sounds. After FM4, there's FM3 and FM7 are also worth playing (if you want something more recent). That's FM7, not the latest Forza (FM8) which has a stupid leveling up system for cars before you can even mod them.

>>743730856Just beat Need for Speed The Run for Xbox 360I liked the story mode, it's at least different from any other racing game I've played. Major lack of non-story single player content though as the game lacks multi lap races completely. The bigger issue is that the game doesn't work if your Xbox 360 is hooked up to the internet. The game has the usual NFS Autolog online stuff, and if your Xbox is connected to the internet then it's gonna try to automatically connect to the servers but the servers got shutdown and there's no timeout so it'll just stay on "Connecting to Autolog" till the end of time. And it's not enough to unplug your internet just once, as it tries to reconnect at the end of every race. It's not that much of an issue on 360 where it works just fine offline, but damn shit like this is gonna make some games completely unplayable once consoles and PCs start requiring a permanent internet connection.

I just like racing games where I can do laps on street styled tracks with regular traffic and just soak in the atmosphere and do hot laps if I wish. Classic NFS is the ideal but old test drive and outrun is in the same sphere. The few good open world racing games kind of get close but lose out the cohesiveness fixed tracks offer.
>>743742001For sure. I recommend soft modding your 360 too, it's super easy to do now, you can make backups of your disk games and playing off the hard drive makes the console so much more silent

>>743754907it has physics better than fh IMO, especially curbs can fuck you up, unlike how fh handles themthe progression is nice, the customization is amazing, you can put a 11k redline rotary into an e30 for examplegame also lets you change rims and tires quite a bit, so you can change the overall diameter of the wheelthe NPC traffic has the best AI in terms of avoid you when you go into their lane, they brake, they swervestory is AI voiceovers, there are clubs which have a dozen races and are based on different car performance classes and disciplines (race, drift, etc). Once you beat all the races in a given club you unlock elite races which are pretty hard, with the AI feeling a bit bullshit at times, but mainly because of their acceleration, especially at the start, there doesnt seem to be rubberbanding. You can do a dozen elite races and earn enough shit to buy and customize a few cars and just fuck around for some timethe OST is shit, use your own musicall the cars are about 20-30% slower than they should be, I think its because it will make the map feel small, for example a 300hp car feels as fast as my 220hp irl shitbox

I was familiar with Laurie Bird, since was kind of fan of Simon and Garfunkel as a young teenager. Sad story that one.>>743757302>Wreckfest 2 shaping upUhm... it really depends. I love it. Though some things won't be to everyone's liking. It's kinda barebones. The car selection is nice. Tracks... there needs to be more for racing. Singleplayer is just custom races and challenges (all hard as fuck as of recently). Online is a mixed bag - there's servers run by simfags, who insist on clean racing and by that they mean pussy racing, where going on the inside of someone leaving a huge gap can get you banned, but there are still some comfy wrecking servers. As for handling (most important thing) - it was brilliant initially. Then they added upgrades and made stock cars feel lame. Upgrades made the cars hard to drive, but the setup menu was some random sliders and trial and error without you knowing what you are actually doing. Recent update kinda made the stock cars handle a bit better, but also introduced quick setup and proper number in advanced setups. Best part is, those arbitrary sliders in quick setup actually deliver a solid ride. Advanced setups is where the game shines IMHO, cause you can really appreciate the physics, if you know what you're doing and if you don't there's explanations for everything. Currently, I'm not even racing, just tuning rides and testing them out - it's more fun than proper racing sims.In general I'd say physics feel on the level of Forza 4, some aspects are better than top rated sims.Playing this with a wheel is probably the best out of the box experience I've had - FFB mogs most modern sims, you can adjust the FOV in cockpit view, but first person racing sucks, cause there is no radar or mirrors, so it's impossible to avoid people trying to hit you. Maybe that's why simfags have those stricks rules.
I got a month (ended up getting another one) of gamepass to play FH6I completed FH6, and I still have some time before the gamepass ends, is this worth playing?
>>743759330>>743757302>Wreckfest 2 shaping upLet me just add some things. Game desperately needs the ability for people to host their own servers or even better to just host a game and invite friends, no idea why only Automobilista 2 (Project Cars engine) has it that simple - IMHO fuck all structured online racing, private leagues was the pinnacle of simracing and it made you better and generated friends. All that sever bullshit, scheduled races, rankings bullshit is just making everything worse..Another thing that's desperately needed is some sort of career. I really hope they go for what the Super Woden games are doing or at least make progression cash based, but no news on that sadly. Don't get me wrong, custom races and challenges are ok. It's basically old school arcade racers stuff, there's just no progression. AI is pretty good. Obviously a game like that has damage, but it also has something no sim has (maybe Project Cars 2 to some extent), which is progressive damage. So you have a crash and damage your radiator, stuff starts leaking and engine starts going worse in 2 laps. Sadly, this will not end the race, as I think the engine can't die, but maybe they will add that. Also, upgrades matter not only in terms of performance, but also durability, which is really cool.
is that new sanic racing game any good?
>>743760170Talikng about Super Woden...https://store.steampowered.com/app/4516440/Super_Woden_GP_3/Problem with multiplayer is that simautists don't want it in any other way and devs will gladly cater to them (and then complain because servers has not enough players or doing the same combination until the end of days)

>>743730856Creative, heres a (you)
>>743760818>>>743757302>Problem with multiplayer is that simautists don't want it in any other wayIt's not simautists really, it's simtourists. Ever since Assetto Corsa and the "nice-graphics sims" became a thing, there was an influx of rich idiots who wanted to race, but never wanted to put the work in. Then there's tubers, who know shit all about race cars and make opinions based on feel from their overpriced DD wheels. All those people know is fixed-setup racing in (((iRacing))) and want every other game to allow them to do just that. Back in the day, you'd find a forum, ask around, got invited to a server, Teamspeak, get to know people, make friends, learn the ropes and have fun. Now stuff like setup work is considered arcane knowledge, to the point where e-sports fags sell that shit and it's not even good. And people buy that! All it took then was just ask a guy. >hey, I'm struggling with this car, it sliedes too much, can you help me?>sure bro, just reduce diff preload, soften the springs and stiffen the front ARB>also, tuesday is practice night, be sure jump in and drive with us, other dudes might have some useful tipsLike, there was no need for a rating system, if you fucked up and crashed into someone, you'd say sorry and that was it, if you crashed into people deliberately, you'd get banned. And the most retarded shit is that, now we have AI, but the rating systems still punish everyone being in contact, not just he guilty ones.

AHAHA FUCK YOU ENZO
How do I get good at tuning in Forza Horizon 6?Should I even do it? I heard that the AI just becomes stronger if you tune your car and makes the game harder than playing with stock cars.
>>743765110>Max damage is fucking greatYes it is. It doesn't hit as hard as Carma 97 back in the day though. Physics were unreal for the time and still impress today. Another great game from that year was Interstate 76 and nothing deserves a remaster more. Wait... I'm on Linux now, this shit should run just fine. Hey, thanks anon!>>743766025>Hard front ARB and soft rear ARB is all you need?It really depends. How do you want the car drive? What is the car? What is the track?AMS2 has shit default setups that make even the FWD Brazillian Stocks oversteer as fuck. Anyways, for a regular, smooth, tarmac track, you want a stable car that's controlled with the throttle. At least that's what I want. And by 'controlled with the throttle' I mean lift of oversteer, cause fuck precise tail-braking. In any case, you start with the springs - as soft as you can without scraping the floor. Then you do dampers - they control car pitch under braking and acceleration. Super important, if the car has a splitter and a diffuser. Basically the higher the value of the damper, the slower the car will react. So for example, you want slow front bump low, so the car pitches forward under braking, making use of that splitter, and likewise, slow front rebound high, so the front doesn't go up to quick when accelerating... to make use of that splitter. Whatever you do to springs, do opposite to ARBs, but keep in mind these keep you from spins, so depending on how you drive, if you have your springs and dampers good, fuck with the ARBs to control over/understeer. Diff is your traction control... Eh. there's a char limit. Just watch Austins vid, they are fun: https://www.youtube.com/@AustinOgonoski/videos
It's been almost 20 years and no wheeled racing game still comes close to the level of VIOLENCE of Pro Street's Speed mode. GRIP comes close but the tracks are too wide and powerups are impure.
>>743767238*can match Pro Street, and then Grip comes close
>>743730856ur gay
>>743730856>HURR HURR HURRRRRRRR
>>743767238>Pro Street's Speed modeAnon, that was the worst part of the game. The cars had a hard speed limit and making them even handle the tracks took dozens of hours. That said, regular grip races were peak NFS, cause Pro Street mimicked real worlds tracks, had a damage model that causes you financial damage and most importantly: AI that didn't cheat as much as in previous games, so you actually got to do some proper racing. Game is great, especially if you mod it to remove the baked in input lag - drifting actually becomes fun.
>>743738048Brayz
>>743767238Prostreet with the frame limit unlocked is sublime when doing speed challenges. Who knew that when bombing along at 200mph 30fps sucks dick? These days I get a rock solid 240fps (as that is the limit of my screen) and the desert sections feel like the ending to the movie vanishing point, minus the fiery death.
>>743741585Nah I'm used to the shit settings by now.
>>743767606PS's Grip is nice too, just in a different way. Grip is clean and rewards being smooth, Speed turns you into a madman that's perpetually between states of "just a few more km/h" and hanging on to dear life. Making them handle is half the fun, all four tracks require different cars and setups. Speed limiter is kinda ass but they made tuning overpowered, unrestricted cars go 500+ km/h and that just gets silly. It is a flawed game- free repair markers, shallow performance tuning (lel just buy level 3 everything immediately and hope for level 4 random drops) and too short of a campaign (particularly damning is the very late introduction of said Speed mode, when all the cars are already top tier) hamper the experience a bit, but it's still one of a kind. >remove baked in input lagI kinda don't mind it, actually. Real cars don't react immediately either, there's some elasticity to everything.
>>743767203Are these setup for stockcars/GT or do they work well with F1 cars?I can't really define how (shit) I drive, I tend to break quite late and sometimes miss the apex. I try controling over/understeer with the wheel rather than the pedals. I've spun most of the time with GT cars and those happen when weight quickly shifts forward during a corner. I just need the car to not spin and have as much downforce as possible without nicking end speed, I've had enough of fighting with retards tooth and nail on corners just to get passed by on straights because my car has the aero of a paper bag in the wind.
>>743754701Same. I'm doing the mountain pass clubs. Didn't really care for it before, but I'm kind of getting into touge now. Also kind of related question. How are you 'supposed' to do touge? In online lobbies I see almost everyone drift on the hair pins, yet here I've been tuning to hit them as tight as I can with max grip.
bros how do I into good vinylseverything I make looks like shit
>>743768309>do they work well with F1 cars? These are Stock/GT specific rules of thumb. It differs in Tourers quite a bit, once you know the drive is on the front, but the philosophy applies all the same. However, I can't drive F1 for shit, maybe except vintage 60's, so can't really say. The idea should be the same - keep the car low to the ground, make the shocks work for your grip and aero and set the diff to allow you to slam the throttle on corner exit and lift-off oversteer to control your angle in the corners... Yet there's more to F1 car setups overall and I don't really drive them so... Either look for specific F1 setup tutorials on youtube, or just experiment - it's fun.
>>743769202>it's funIndeed, I got into setuping cars when I got a 1989 F1 Ferrari for AC, it drove like a brick but after spending a day playing with the setup I managed to get it working quite nice, I spin like a retard at corner exits though, that never changes. I can't catch spins with the wheel to save my life.
