I don't think that it could be any more retarded. Why are they refunding companies for money they didn't spend nor get? They should be setting up a system to analyse receipts and refunding their citizens.
And wasn't it the US Supreme Court that did this? So this whole time everyone said Trump doesn't understand tariffs, it turns out it was just the whole American political elite that doesn't understand them.

Americans are so fucking retarded, they're spiritual jeets.
>>
>>743731196
well it doesn't have a duty, legally they paid the tariff and raised their prices accordingly, YOU never paid the tariff you just paid the increased cost

What do you mean by this
>>
>>743731758
The tariffs were paid. The government now has to pay them back, retroactively, because they were not allowed to apply tariffs in that manner.
That price was already charged to the customers. This is a massive windfall for Nintendo.
>>
>>743731196
Only sony and xbox are losers, nintendo is way to cool, they deserve my tax money
>>
>>743731785
Companies are legally forbidden from doing anything close to this. They get sued by their shareholders
Publicly traded companies at least in the US and Japan can't even make long term growth decisions, it's against the law
They are only allowed to increase shareholder value
>>
>>743731821
The yanks all decried Trump as being a retard not understanding tariffs believing that it was foreign companies paying them, and yet when the tariffs are undone they "refund" them by paying foreign companies?

>>743731873
>were paid
By US citizens. They're not paying them back, they're paying the wrong people.
>That price was already charged to the customers
Yes..?

So here's what happens. The US tariffs Nintendo, Nintendo products go up in price because the US government takes an extra cut from importers of Nintendo stock, US stores then sell them at a higher cost because the importers had to pay more, US citizens now buy the higher priced stock from the store.
Nintendo didn't see or interact with the tariffs in any capacity, refunding them is retarded.

Because you clearly don't understand tariffs, here's a quick run down.
The government tariffs a foreign country, all their goods then cost more to import and bring into your country, the market and supply line then independently of either government then charge more increasing the prices. The reason for a tariff is to promote domestic products that cost more by driving up foreign products to an equal or close to equal cost.

Sure, it’d be good to have a stable solid manufacturing industry that brings the country jobs and economic leverage. The problem is the US political machine, by its capitalist nature, has no incentive to do so. The retards defending the orange man’s tariff nonsense are hoodwinked into thinking he sees the tariff shit as anything other than a scheme to pump n dump on the stock market. America has let crooks take over, and they don’t give two shits about long-term prosperity. They’ve already sold you all out to China. And they did that decades ago

how would that work? Most of the sales are anonymous at supermarkets, and legally they wouldn't even be allowed to do an identity check on their users. if they only refunded identifiable people that would probably lead to another legal action because that's unfair to the others.

So do you believe that Nintendo has a branch of operations that imports their devices across to different markets? How does this work.

Someone imports devices from Nintendo in Japan, then to get the product in their possession they then have to pay the tariff, until the tariff is paid the importer does not legal possession of the product. Where is Nintendo paying the US government here?
The importer has wired the money to Nintendo in Japan, they send the product to a US port and the importer pays the tariff. Nintendo gets the money all the same, no money leaves Nintendo's pockets.

It's fascinating how you can be this stupid. AI at its current state is smart enough to replace your thinking, people would think you're smarter for it.

>>743736832
These are only tariffs on new product going into Vietnam, which are paid to the Vietnamese government, not the US. Any stocked product beforehand doesn't get retroactively tariffed.

Realistically Nintendo probably eats the 20% Vietnam tariff though rather than spending even more money setting up storage and alternative supply lines.
>>
nintendo doesn't know who paid for each game and console. At best they would give money to Gamestop and wall mart, that's their final listed client.
>>
This is such a non-issue. No price is too high if a console has games you want to play. The US blowing up the world economy is a problem for food and energy because we need that to live.

It's impossible to refund tariffs without going insanely negative.
The importer likely raises the price for other middlemen, who then raise the prices for distributors who then raise the prices for store customers. You'd have to refund every single one of them which will easily total more than double the tariffs gained.
And figuring that out will be expensive because of all the liaison and auditing you'd need to do to actually figure out who's owed what.

I think that's the main issue right now.
FedEx is doing refunds but you have to request it and they have a much better way of checking.
>>
People still don't understand tariffs. In practice, foreign companies pay tariffs because the LEGAL OBLIGATION to pay a tax is irrelevant to who suffers the financial burden. Foreign companies who breakout tariffs as a line item are like hotels that wait until you checkout to show resort/tourism tax. They're trying to fleece you with surcharges because if you knew the actual price, you wouldn't buy. COGS, including tariffs, does not determine price.
>>
>>743731758
>Why are they refunding companies for money they didn't spend nor get?
the companies paid the tariff. Literally, at customs they are the ones handing over money. Customers are paying increased prices because everyone just increases the price of their goods by the cost of the tariff.
>They should be setting up a system to analyse receipts and refunding their citizens.
the companies are the ones who paid the tariff.
> So this whole time everyone said Trump doesn't understand tariffs, it turns out it was just the whole American political elite that doesn't understand them.
T. believes that they are a tax on people he doesn't like, and he likes the idea that he can do that to people so much that he willfully ignores anyone with a higher than room temperature IQ telling him that isn't how it works. The elite are rich enough to not give a shit what it is, they are immune to financial consequences, and so the only calculus is whether they want to be counted among those doing what he wants or among those doing what he doesn't want.

What are you on about? If you brought directly from Nintendo you'd have had an increased price from the delivery and shipping service for bringing it into the US, Nintendo doesn't get your money nor do they pay any to the US government.
>owned by a company
It's owned by a US citizen, not Nintendo. A US citizen who paid extra for the product and didn't get any "refund."
>what are you even trying to say
Damn you are retarded. It's simple anon.
The stock importer has to pay extra for the product to enter the US, so they charge the distribution companies extra for the product, the distribution companies then charge the stores extra for the product who then finally charge the customer extra for the product. The more distribution companies it travels between the more money is wasted on tariffs, thus, it compounds.
>single digit IQ
This isn't irony or funny anymore. This is genuinely sad. Your parents, your country, your teachers and the system failed you anon, my heart goes out to you.
>>
Actual tariff fees were paid by the importer, not the end consumer. Most companies passed that fee on to the consumer, sure, but that was to make back what they had to pay to the government. Your "tariff" payments went straight into the pocket of the company unless you were importing the item directly.
>>

only the importer is getting the refund because they are the entity that paid. Damn you're retarded as fuck. That the price you paid became higher is immaterial, The importer is the one who handed over money for the tariff.
>The more distribution companies it travels between the more money is wasted on tariffs, thus, it compounds.

you didn't pay it though. You paid the company that actually paid it.

yes but no. There are reasons beyond fishing for a refund to structure it this way.

I wish I lived in a world where companies would compete by the merit of their products.
Instead I live in a world where companies are like nasty women who spread misinformation and gossip to bring the competition down to their level.

Is we getting Nintendo stimulus check?
>>

Why would people want companies to pass tarrifs onto them???
>>
>>743731196
Did Nintendo or any other company raise prices in the US in response to Trump's tariffs?
If not, why would customers get a refund? The company took the hit.
>>
>>743731196
They can keep it since I'm white and successful.
>>
>>743731196
Maybe because the tariffs reduced their revenue as they sold less because of a more expensive system? How would they know which costumers were affected by this anyway? They would have to give free stuff to all users which would be a net negative after the refund.

lol lmao no

They knew EXACTLY what they were doing. It was always intended to be a way to raise consumer prices and effectively tax regular people more (team R favors regressive/flat tax structures) and to enrich businesses. All according to keikaku.

Good, everything goes to the games...
>>
>>743745396
SCOTUS ruled that some of the tariffs from the current president were implemented illegally, and therefore need to be refunded. Importers are the ones who pay tariffs. In nearly all cases, the importer is the US-based branch of a multinational company or retailers, not consumers. Those companies nearly always raise prices to cover the tax, so consumers pay it by proxy. Because the money goes to the companies (e.g., Nintendo), they are just going to keep it. None of this is a surprise, and basically all of this was predicted before the tariffs even went into effect.
>>

Does it? Where is my money?

importer pays, which in this case would be Nintendo of America, who then also increased prices for consumers in that local to offset that cost
>>

>Why this article even exists?
To paint Nintendo as the bad guys as usual, why else? The only thing they're doing is being blunt about what would happen if any company were to get a tariff refund, but since it was Nintendo who made the statement, it's perfect ammo for the NDS crew.
>>
>>743746367
so the tariffs just fucked over the importers in the end?

It'll never be with that attitude. Again, we have to start somewhere.
>>
>>743746659
>importers
Well... no. The importers raised prices, so their margins were always fine. They are receiving the refunds, and mostly all just keeping it because giving it away to customers would be dumb. So it's been win-win for them. Which in most cases, is the same entity doing the exporting (a multinational company like Nintendo).
>>
>>743734062
You didn't pay the tax retard, Nintendo did. You payed the higher retail price like the good goy cattle you are because you couldn't wait.
>>743734561
For what? You didn't pay the US govt anything.
Goddamn Walshart gaslit the fuck out of you retards, the tariff is paid by the importer at time of import based on the price they paid for it, not the retail price. They don't have to increase pricing at all and certainly not by tacking the tariff percentage onto the retail price. They can eat the entire cost, they don't have to though because they are free to price their goods at whatever they think people will buy it for. Turns out, all the people that bitch about corporations are just battered houswives who love the pain though.
>>
>>743734824
Its not American taxpayer money, its whatever cost of the import fee they decided to cover. Its their own money.
>>
>>743731196
>REEEEEEEEEEE YOU'RE MAKING US CHARGE MORE BECAUSE OF TARIFFS

NTA but didn't all that Nintendo do for the tariffs was raise the price of the Switch 1 and Switch 1 accessories in America and eat the costs for the Switch 2?
And if that was the case, these people fighting for a refund, if it rules in favor of them it won't, would they only get a refund if they brought a Switch 1 or the accessories during the tariff increase?
Just making sure I got what is going on straight here.

Online orders should be pretty easy to track though. Most names on the Nintendo account and online store account should even line up.

At the very least, give welcome tour out for free or something and claim that's an apology for the tariffs. That game is probably not selling at all anymore.

>didn't all that Nintendo do for the tariffs was raise the price of the Switch 1 and Switch 1 accessories in America and eat the costs for the Switch 2?
Impossible to really say without seeing their internal financial records. More than likely, they raised prices on literally every product that was impacted by an import to the US. A lot of those could have been just a cent or two, or even raising prices only in certain markets (e.g., charge more to retailers/consumers in a specific region with a scaled "shipping" fee.)

But yes, anyone in the class action suit would be whoever is indicated to have been impacted by it. The lawyers would send out a letter or email that says "You have X days to waive your representation in this suit so you can lodge your own suit if you want" (and almost no one ever does that). Later, they would figure out who exactly bought the specific products that were impacted and have a check for whatever measly amount mailed to them.
>>
>>743751682
Nintendo sells almost none of its products directly. The other Anon is correct in that most of the money would just go to retailers. Wal-Mart doesn't know who the fuck comes in to buy a Switch or game, especially if they pay in cash. And they might have sale data with credit card info or IDs, but they wouldn't give that up unless compelled to do so, which they would not because it costs them time and money to retrieve it and correlate it, if they even have it.
>>
>>743731196
Let's say nintendo does give out these refunds. We're just going to get like 20 or some dollars.
>>
no refunds (for thee)
