Thoughts on Peter Molyneux?
i think hes the guy who like had his company mixed up for a game company back in like the 60s and some company had commissioned a game from his company accidentally but he like took the commission and delivered and it was like a legendary story or something. thats what i think about him
>>743731663I'll write a 200 page essay about him if you give me $200 right now.
>>743731663Hello you.
I don't know who that is. You could say he's a "literally who"
An entity of lost glory and unfinished promises, trying to find his last hurrah, despite already being dragged in by the black hole of obscurity. The type of man who peaks in high school football. Humans need to learn to pivot to new career paths when their chosen one doesn't work out. In the end, he's trying to prove something to himself.
>>743731663He's a retard but he's not fat so I respect him
Kojima would call him Bald Scamman
>>743731663Todd isn't even half as much of a liar as Molyneux
when his phone number leaked on 4chan i sent him a text saying dungeon keeper was my favorite game growing uphe replied back in like a minute thanking me for the warm words and how honored he was to be able to have a hand in something that shaped my childhoodso he sent that despite likely being inundated by abuseso no matter what i cannot hate him
>>743731663I think he is so disconnected from reality that he doesn't understand the difference between the games he's imagining in his head and the games he's actually making.
>>743733067God damn, what a experience.
>>743733067WTF Molyneux created Josef Fritzl?
>>743731663He make dungeon keeper, so he's pretty based in my books. I would absolutely spend a genie wish on him making a game where all of his bull shit is delivered upon.
>>743731663It's funny he promised you could plant a tree and watch it grow in Fable and never delivered despite being one of the easiest thing to implement out of all the thing he promised
>>743731663In a world in which developers are so creatively bankrupt they are scared of imagining new IP and in a dystopian industry where consumers rule corporations and force them to release sequels to stale franchises he is sorely missed. For years it was a meme that idea guys were useless but I'm realising there are no fucking idea guys left in the industry, every game is unambitious homogenous slop.
Been replaying dungeon keeper lately and it's a neat little game.
>>743733067that's kinda funny
Molyneux was a old school ideas guy who thought you dont need to actually make a game to sell the ideas to a bunch of foolsHe made a joke of himself, whatever his legacy of good games was it got dwarfed by his lies
>>743733830Because at that point he was already disconnected from game developing. He just let his mouth run at press conferences, the actual devs never got told to implement his ramblings
>>743731663overrated hack, his last slop just proved it
Still mad i never got to expose my cock to project milo
Lionhead was never as good as Bullfrog, and all of his post-Lionhead work has been just... I haven't the words for it.
Is it molymeme's brother or distant cousin
>>743731663people keep calling him a fraud (deservingly desu), but in reality someone that created beloved and seminal games like dungeon keeper, populous and black & white cannot be a fraud by any means.real frauds are people that have made no real impact in the industry, like blow and cliffy
Peter molyneux is genuinely great. His run of games and the way he brought other people into the industry and gave freedom to work on stuff is gone now. He put out so many original things. He made big promises because he understood that's how the world works - look how many tards do that now but have never done anything half as inventive or supportive as molyneux. It's tragic that fuckwit games journalists criticised him for years while glazing dogshit sequel mtx franchise bullshit, and now here we are.
I love and hate Lyin' Pete.
>>743731663I like him. He was just over enthusiastic about his games. Todd is a straight up malicious liar and knows it, thats why his TES self-insert is literally Clavicus Vile
>>743731663>the hardware wasn't powerful enough for his ideas
>>743731663doesn't he have a brother? another dude called molyneux?
>>743731663Had some good ideas and many many bad ones. Ultimately, he had some talent but was carried mostly by luck instead as proven by his latest ideas which are out of touch and retarded to a great degree.
>>743731663He is based and was a genuinely great ideas guy. I don't care about all of his lies. Every game he played that I played was still good.
>>743740990>he made that I playedFixed my own post
>>743731663The OG hack. There were many after him. But in the West he's the first one.
>>743731663He and Todd suffer from over-promising but I've enjoyed the games he's made even if it was maybe 50% of what was originally planned
>>743731663He dared to dream. And that's why they hated him.
>>743731663Big mouth that promises more than his tiny brain and wallet can actually deliver.
>>743733067This is probably a lie but it sounds in-character so I choose to believe it.
That video of Milo and that woman is like the start of a taboo porn film. But not as hot as lewdestbunnie or jolielyon.
>>743742049not him but i've been here long enough to know it to be true. he got his number leaked and he replied to everyone.
It's strange how people always focus on his lying, which is of course a core character trait of his and gained him a reputation, which he will never lose, but in all of his games, he is also obsessed with the idea of making the game so easy and the UI so "intuitive" that even your grandma can play it. A core problem of all of his games have been that they are fundamentally too easy. They are so easy that they would in fact be better games, if they were a bit harder or added a proper hard mode.
Welcome to the tutorial.
>>743731663I think people started confusing Todd Howard for him
>>743731663Would have been great if he had a wrangler.
>>743731663Pete is a hype man. I like that he errored on the higher side with estimates. I wonder if the new game he just made is good but im scared to check.
>>743731663Made some GOAT games back in the day but he really lost his marbles during the Kinect era
>>743731663He just cant stop fuckig lieing.
Peter still is ok in my book since he still attempted to make sim games. But He's only barely better than Tim Schaefer in my book. I'll never forgive Tim for what he did with Spacebase DF9.
>>743731768You're a newfag zoomer, in other words a faggot
>>743731663>On 26 May 2013, 22cans and Peter Molyneux announced via Twitter that the last layer had been removed and the Cube had been opened, revealing the prize video to the winning player that had removed the final layer. The winner was identified as Edinburgh resident Bryan Henderson, who was given the option to either keep the knowledge of the contents of the cube to himself or share it with the public. Molyneux announced that Henderson opted to share the prize.>Prior to the game's completion, Molyneux regularly described the prize as "life-changing," though clarified it would not be "a huge mountain of cash [...] an amazing sports car [...] or Half-Life 3." According to the video 22cans posted on YouTube the day that the experiment ended, the cube awarded Henderson with the role of "god of gods" within 22cans' upcoming god game, Godus, and 1% of all of the revenue earned by Godus. Henderson's role within Godus would grant him the ability to reign over other players, with the ability to "intrinsically decide on the rules that the game is played by.">In a 2012 interview with Rock Paper Shotgun, Molyneux declared the prize would last for five to ten years. After the revelation of the prize, Molyneux said the award would last six months, and that after six months, Henderson could be overthrown by other players in his 'god of gods' role. Over 18 months later, Henderson reported little to no contact from 22cans. Speaking to The Guardian, Molyneux explained that the person in charge of keeping in contact with Henderson left the company and no one was ever reassigned the position, an act which Molyneux called "inexcusable".>In March 2017, Molyneux stated that Godus was not profitable and Henderson would therefore not receive money. As of 14 December 2023, Godus is no longer available for purchase on PC, never having left early access. The 'god of gods' role was never implemented and Henderson never received his due prize.
>>743731663He was the Todd Howard from 20y ago
>>743731663He’s a bit pompous in a liberal type of way, but many of his documentaries are entertaining enough. Didn’t know he lost all his hair.
>>743731663He's an "ideas guy" from the time when you were allowed and respected for being an "ideas guy".
>>743731663A walking reason why you don't ever let "ideas guys" have any power or financial responsibilityHe's also an example of when a conman who should be selling fake watches manages to get into a business position that a respectable businessman should have normally been inEssentially he's one of those "perpetual aspiring entrepreneurs" that managed to get lucky and fall upwards instead of remaining in the lobby begging to change copy paper or fetch coffeeEverything he has touched turned to shit"Sir Peter Molyneux, Tamer of Lions" my fucking assSlimy greasy snake oil salesman with none of the wit or charm required for it
>>743743406I like Molyneux more than most but this is the one thing I hated about his design sensibilities. I still remember him giving presentations about "1 button combat" in fable 2 and all the game journalists nodding along as if his 100% contextual bullshit combat wasn't a total game design disaster. His obsession with it marks the zenith of western game design retardation, hyper streamlining to the point of erasing all friction and the game with it. I genuinely credit dark souls for saving the entire industry from that dark path.
>>743733907“Idea guys” were filtered out of every industry because you can’t assign metrics to “ideas” thus the value of good ideas can’t be easily quantified for the MBA suits Why pay some guys salary as a “designer” when you can hire 50 Indians for the same price to pump out yearly sequels and DLC for some looter shooter? The value of the 2nd looks good on paper but has obvious negatives.
>>743744227>respectable>businessmanlol as respectable as a career politician or a journalist.
Idea guys really need to make a comeback. You only need one of those niggas and a bunch of white/asian need programmers as well as some kind of bipolar drug abusing creative and you would conquer the market
>>743744227All his games pre Fable 2, (which is most of them) were very good and incredibly innovative. I don't know how you can call that failing up when as soon as he left lionhead they collapsed building a boring GAAS flop.Peter is as close as you're going to get to the legendary Japanese game directors who invented multiple genres, he got crucified because he was too good of a salesman and ran his mouth too early in development.
For me, it's project natal
