I had a good time on the first third of my playthrough. I was terrible at the game, I never had any ammo, so I had to do all sorts of creative stuff to be able to kill any enemy. I remember having to lure those burly mutants into mines I had placed inside some abandoned hotel because that's all I had left. Once my character grew stronger, the game became very plain.

The enemy variety and encounter rate at higher levels is pretty aids though, especially the albino radscorpions that can drain almost all your ammo in a single encounter, or force you to spec into big guns and use a tesla cannon regardless of your build, that sours a big part of the mid to late game. And then enjoy getting attacked by another albino radscoprion or a Reaver 30 seconds later if you travel on foot.Even doing a crit heavy build, you'd pretty much need to get the backwater rifle from the dlc or use the lincoln repeater to get passed some of the bullet sponges.I enjoy the game overall, but it benefits a lot from the TTW mod and is really only 'fun' to play in the lvl 20+ range if you turn the difficulty down every time you face a bullet sponge enemy, which is often enough for it to be annoying. Exploration and atmosphere is pretty great though, and the art-deco-esque style for DC and the general Americana vibes for the rest of the game make it quite unique. Fallout 1 and New Vegas mogg it mind. Fallout 2 is 'ok', if a bit reddit, and Fallout 4 is just a rooty-tooty-looty-shooty game and is its own thing entierly and shouldn't really be counted as a fallout game appart from some superficial elements. t. autist
