I've ignored this game until now since I always wait for DLC and balance patches of owlcat games.
Can I just jump into it if my only knowledge of the 40k universe comes from dawn of war 1 and space marine games?
Any recommended difficulty? I'm planning on starting with hard and going sniper operative as that's the go-to class for me in crpgs.
>>
Yes it's perfectly fine even if you know nothing, you knowing a bit of stuff enhances the experience
Have you played Owlcat games before? It's pretty wordy and straightforward but can be overwhelming at times, you also get overpowered very easily
>>
>>743741257
I've tried WOTR but having to buff your party for 10 minutes before every single encounter combined with limited spell slots made me quit after 8 hours.
>>
>>743741396
The buffing situation is not nearly as bad because this is not a Pathfinder game.
Just about everything in the game is explained to you. I guess there's a few situations where it looks like something happened completely out of left field and then you have to unravel the situation, but that kindof enhances the experience or whatever.

>Can I just jump into it if my only knowledge of the 40k universe comes from dawn of war 1 and space marine games?
Sure because I knew literally nothing when I jumped in.
>difficulty
It was my first CRPG (WOTR combat always filtered me and I could never make it far even with multiple attempts), so I just started with standard but increased it quite early on. I think you can start with hard then if you have experience with these games. Although when you get to the voidship battles... honestly I found them annoying at some point, so I put the sliders for that on easy to get done with them kek
>>
>>743741396
RT is turn-based and you can't prebuff so it's much better in that regard
>>
>>743741139
>balance
is it more balanced now? i heard people end fights in 1 turn
>>
>>743742072
act 1 is balanced
when you get the second tier classes you can quickly become op as fuck
>>
i don't know anything about warhammer and i got it and dropped about 150 hours on it
go for it OP its fun
>>
>>743741139
>Can I just jump into it if my only knowledge of the 40k universe comes from dawn of war 1 and space marine games?
Absolutely, and the game does a great job of introducing players to the setting.
>Any recommended difficulty?
Daring for a first playthrough.
>I'm planning on starting with hard
Lol enjoy your rage quit.
>and going for sniper operative
You're going to be extremely disappointed considering that operative is by far the weakest & most lackluster archetype in the game & is only worth it if you pick something like Divination Psyker for origin to not have to waste your talent choices on the terrible operative talents (though one of the earliest companions in the game is a diviner & telepath psyker who's mechanically superior to the sanctioned origin so you're wasting your selection by picking it).
>>
>>743742530
she exploded herself and summoned a 200hp horror her FIRST fucking fight
sanctioned psyker would never

>>
>>743741139
You really only need to know the basics.

There's an imperium. They worship the emperor that started it. The emperor is really strong.
The imperium spans the galaxy and is made up of numerous factions. The big 3 enemies are heretics, aliens, and demons.
The Warp is the magic system and it runs off of belief and psychic potential.
Rogue Traders are the ones that are in charge of expanding the imperium through trade, diplomacy, and colonization.
>>
>>743741139
It's a bit heavy on tech priest stuff but everything else you should be familiar with coming from Dawn of War and Space Marine games
>>
Shame that no party member can use Lasgun well.
>>
>>743743659
Laguns are probably the most mid ranged weapon by default & depend on Astra Militarum Commander origin to make them worthwhile. The benefit of having high dodge reduction is more useful for characters using ranged weapons as improv with lower ballistic skill & perception who would otherwise miss a lot.
>>
>>743743804
The game does have a lot of good lasgun. Human got the best sniper las gun.
>>
>>743743871
Long las quickly gets overshadowed by other sniper rifles with unique effects
>>
>>743741139
I think Kingmaker is the only Owcat game that handled itemization properly. In Wrath you're drowning in autistic gear swapping by the end of Act 3 and Rogue Trader basically kills you with gear options at the start of Act 4
>>
>>743744608
The one jae gives you when you recruit her is disgusting OP with assassin. The one that can shoot again if you crit.
I like how unbalanced this game is, like you can buff anyone to clear the field on the first turn.
>>
>>743744752
>Owcat
they are retards who think that more is better no matter the quality. their game would actually be much better if they cut like 50% of bloated useless shit, hat includes their minigames and dialogue text.
>>
>>743746343
That fits 40k fine.
There were quite a few horus heresy books, along with siege of terra. Quantity is its own quality.

Play this without a single DLC for the best experience

>every other bandit now carries 'arc grenades'
>can no longer use the healing psyker power to remove fresh injuries outside of combat
>the heretic melta gun from the prologue is no longer 1ap for the aoe blast
>>
>>743741139
Yeah it's accommodating to people that don't know anything about the setting. There's even dialogue options for your character to ask for explanations about basic shit that they have no business not knowing.

I finished it today, daring is absolutely ok for first playthrough
Funny thing I also played sniper operative and while it's ok for taking out priority targets I just killed every single boss with Dogmatic IV skill (gives ally of choice armor ignore for a single round) on heavy bolter Argenta

>>
>>743747514
It's not heresy when a rogue trader does it because the Emperor said so.
>>
>>743748479
In the mid-game Abby was my mvp because he had the item that gives you temp hp whenever you gain momentum as well as one that gave him strength based on his temp hp and do extra flat damage based on current temp wounds. I have to assume it was bugged because of instead of giving him 3 hp when you gained 3 momentum it would it would give hp based on the new total momentum so he'd have hundreds of temp wounds and be doing 600 damage per hit
>>
>>743748695
how did that loophole work out for theodora
>>
>>743748935
Theodora had a chaos artifact, not xenotech, RT's are literally allowed to use xenotech
>>
>>743748935
She wasn't killed for using xeno tech so I don't see what your point is. Also Argenta is a heretic for violating the Lex.
>>
>>743748636
I seriously have no idea where the damage is coming from. I mean I could check the combat log but I prefer to remain ignorant.
>>
>>743749126
No you couldn't because the log is garbage and doesn't explain most of what's in there lol
>>
>>743752087
It comes from the emperor. Thats all you need to know.

Not a great attitude for rogue trader desu. How are you ever going to make money if you just blow up everything that looks a bit off.

OP here, claimed my title and my ship.
Why is owlcat like this?
>>
>ulfar is ready to tell you about the months of shame, the canix helix and the truth of wulfen in your first conversation, but won't tell you his full name.
Gay.

Anyway, let's talk ricochet, how do i use it in a way that doesn't murder my own party?
I gave it to pasqual, and the second projectile always seeks out yrliet even if it logically shouldn't bounce to her. Like i shoot some mook 10 spaces away, and instead of bouncing to the guy standing 2 spaces from him, it autoseeks the xeno standing 15 spaces away.
It was funny the first two times, but it's lost it's charm.
>>
>>743741139
Theres one more dlc bro, just wait. also wait at least a month after the dlc, because for the life of them they cant drop a bigger update without breaking half the game, they're still fixing after dlc 3
>>
>>743762505
>projectile always seeks out yrliet
holy based
>>
>>743741139

Sure, but him talking about the secret geneseed flaw that mutates his chapter into werewolves and the secret war with the inquisition is fine?
>>
>>743767134
Yeah? None of that is embarrassing; they're just facts. I think you've forgotten what a Space Wolf is, man.
>>
>>743767209
The inquisition war, sure, but that they have a mutating flaw in their geneseed is a tightly guarded secret that would get their chapter flagged for extermination despite their status as a first founding if it got out.

I like the 40k aesthethic but i straight up dont care about the long term lore. I decided to just play games and take them all as stand alone experiences. Ill probably play this after im done with Pillars, well either this or BG3.

>>

>>
>>743741396
ya heard people raving about that game, but that shit was so bad i've decided to never touch anything related to pathfinder again.
>>
>>743768404
Perhaps the interrogator working for lord inquisitor calzone who's part of your retinue?
>>

>>
>>743741139
I'm almost done with Act 2 and I don't know if I should stick with my cookie cutter but effective sniper build or if I should just play how I originally wanted to and use the navy double wield bonuses, are there good enough pistols to justify it because they all look like shit.
Not being able to reclass your original archetype sucks since it's not at all used for reactivity unlike the origin.
>>
>>743768530
Ah yes, the interrogator who's boss called the Space Wolves to the Expanse to begin with & doesn't care about their wulfen mutation gene seed. Did you fly in from stupid town?
