in a sense yes because it simulates the experience of playing with an awful DM really well
>>
>>743743224
Like when?
>>
>>743741407
It was OK. All the dice rolling got old fast and made the game drag. One of the main reasons to play computer RPGs is to automate the tedious parts of TTRPGs, and they leaned into the tedium instead. BG2 is still the best in the series

>roll low int/wis unga bunga barbarian
>always pick barbarian options for dialogue or end conversations that get verbose and over my head
>get to act 3 in the brothel
>talk to the devil guy
>several dialogue options
>disregard them and end conversation because i know he talks alot and i dont trust him
>immediately after every party member has an ! because they want to talk to me about some hammer
>have no idea what anyone is talking about
the game assumes you picked every dialogue option and know every detail about the fucking orphic hammer after talking to the devil. i can imagine someone trying to be a lawful good paladin and ignoring his dialogue in a similar manner to my neutral stupid barbarian

>>
>>743741407
About average, maybe bit above average on 1st playthrough. But when you realize that your choices really doesn't matter that much, just few big ones and you can't really be actually evil. And even when you are evil and slaughter people, you can always 180 and become a good guy. Characters are 50/50 and your oc has no personality or actual goals. Your background is just a stat selection rather than proper backstory or goal thing. Also you can see how the whole game used to be some DnD scenario with the players from how the locations are designed, just like DoS 2. Shadowheart was DMs pet and its easy to see.
I hate how average it is at times. Like it is a good game. But it could be so much better with few additions and changes. But the devs were too scared of people getting angry that their choices mattered or even living with the choices they made in character creation. You can always respec and pickpocket the 100 gold back from Wither.
Makes me angry that they lack commitment. Hard to really give it 10/10 when you actually finish the game, especially multiple playthroughs.

It is still that way. The game has no real epilogue with slides and it just end.
Only the main story and companions get a conclusion
>>
>>743746541
not op but damn that sounds pretty dissapointing
I was gonna ask if all the gods you can choose from at the start change the game and how you act, but I guess from what you said roleplaying is not that deep?
>>
I enjoyed it, played from the first day of Early Access
They went overboard trying to please the woke twitch crowd while genuine, well thought out suggestions and ideas proposed on their official forums got straight up ignored -
>Day/Night cycle?
Nah
>Faithfully implementing 5e?
Lol nope, in-house Larian mechanics and homebrew get priority, muh barrelmancy faggots need their fix
>People begging for more companions?
Fuck off, we're gonna implement Origin playthroughs nobody fucking asked for
>Literally teasing Aarakocra, Tortles and Tabaxi races in Early Access with a book in the Druid Grove area
Lol fuck you, we changed our mind, multiplayer gets priority (not to mention they were working on Warforged race and scrapped it)
So much cut content
Act 1 took priority, Act 2 and 3 are rushed and the game could've been way better had they not lost the drive to actually make a good, all encompassing, future proof DnD game
WotC also played a part in it being shit

Hopefully the modders step up, as is the game is fine and has tons of replayability, its even challenging on Honor mode its just marred by stupid decisions and ''what could have been'' and lgbtqoisguyo;siahg propaganda

Also fuck what they did to my girl Viconia
>>
>>743747127
By default can’t only the cleric pick a god?
>>
>>743748013
yep and even then you're locked out of all the options, gotta have a mod to actually choose all of them on any class
not to mention that you get minimal to none interactions through that choice its just dialogue interactions and fluff, no real mechanics behind it, cut content hurts is felt throughout the entirety of the game
>>
>>743745938
E33 is a great game
>>
>>743741407
Yeah it was pretty good, but the bar for RPG is shit at this point. Look at the contemporaries.
>>
>>743747127
Yeah, only Shadowheart has her own God things. Clerics can choose their God of course, but like with backgrounds its basically just a stat/skillset thing more than an RPG thing. I am not sure if you even get any specific God specific dialogue options.

not just a pet. she's blatantly treading into main character territory.

>that can be good though
Yeah, didn't mean it is bad, but when you can see it so blatantly it hurts. Especially as you pointed out with
>she's blatantly treading into main character territory
Its hard to relate when the characters are so... "modern". I can just see the type of players playing them. And hey, nothing wrong with being wacky or over the top, but I want characters, not some... "DnD session characters with inside joke personalities". I don't know how to explain it better, because its not just the writing. Someone like Gale feels 'normal' for the most of the parts and the og player doesn't shine through so much. Same with actually Wyll. Like me and my sister ended making him into our joke character because the first run we had he hopped in to the Goblin encounter and got rekt which we laughed our asses off. Misses his spell and then gets almost beat to death.
We sacrificed him to BOOOAL which I actually gotta give props to the devs because its so funny and cool at the same time to have that kind of options.

This
>>743741407
All aside it's polished and all, but it isn't an rpg, nor does it feel like one. It's like a puppet play for children with weird writing that resembles ai. Story was gutted and hence the result is subpar. The emperor was obviously a legendary mindflayer bringing civilization to the mindflayer and freeing them from the brain (hence the name emperor), but this was too complicated for normie mcsheeple. It's a dungeon crawler with very good crpg combat. Good in a sense that it's varied. I'll give it a 7.5/10 and isn't worthy of the name bg. The whole game is worse than the feeling of leaving the dungeon of irencus for the first time.
>>743750546

Eh... if you are in the open, sure. I had some really iffy situations where camera just would keep flicking between floors or not doing what i want it to do. At times i wished i could just 3rd person view from char's position/field of view.
>>
>>743743123
this always confused me because loads of outfits have pokies, some even have the titties just out but animation bones and weights are too much?
>>
>>743741407
Yeah. Not incredibly deep when it comes to character customization, but still very good when implemented in whatever the fuck is going on in the world
>>
It's a solid 8/10 that /v/ hates because it went mainstream and normalniggers loved it. 4chan has gone from being counter culture to being purely contrarian, and this game is a good example of that.
>>
>>743750627
My feeling is, they wanted to make a game about their characters and the main character was an afterthought. The whole game is about them and so is the marketing. Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were about the protagonist's journey and your allies were supporting characters with their own arcs, not the main attraction.
I think the modern practice of RPG writing is to try to make everything really tight and interconnected and "dense", but what works for a TV show doesn't always work for a game.
>>
>>743751006
/v/ is "contrarian" because everyone sucks its dick as a 10/10 best game ever. I can get behind it being a 7/10 or an 8/10 but it's definitely not a 10/10
I see more people on /v/ praising it than criticizing it by the way. Maybe it's confirmation bias

Its more of a "choose the color" ME3 ending. Your evil shit doesn't build up to an ending.
I doodled this MS Paint pic as a small example.
Also reminded me
It doesn't matter how much you take mindflayer powers, doesn't affect your character at all and is an objective plus. Nobody even cares if you have nommed the white worm.
The problem is that you can be the goodiest of goodie shoe and then just at the end say "lmao am evil" which feels strange. Same with being an absolute evil degenerate or murderhobo who at the end goes "yeah, lets save the world :)"
There isn't real consequences. Just at the final battle with some allies you made along the way + the letters at the last camp. If you care about the developer self-insert chars and their storylines, then you can do those of course and see those interactions.
But (You)r choices don't matter.
>>

My opinion is my own, but discussion requires other people and the tone and direction of it shifts according to who is participating. You can raid the grove with the goblins in Act 1. A consequence of this is that Karlach will explode because Dammon isn't alive to fix her.
You can make Shadowheart kill the Nightsong in Act 2. A consequence of this is that Jaheira will die and Minsc by extension because she's not around to make him trust you in Act 3.
I don't really get what you're asking for here. Yes the game's plot will converge on the issues of the Emperor, Orpheus, and the Netherbrain because that's the pressing issue. There is no reasonable way for the game's story to branch away from the final battle because the Netherbrain will kill everyone if you don't stop it. Are you suggesting that the game should take the decision out of your hands? "Sorry you are not allowed to choose the Good dialogue choice because you were very naughty up until now, so you are forced to embrace Bhaal"?
You can side with the Absolute at pretty much every opportunity, only being forced to fight the final boss because the Netherbrain kills Gortash.

if it's woke then yeah, it's one of the wokest games on the market on par with Dustborn and Mixtape.
But gameplay and build variety is abysmally shallow because you are limited as fuck.
There are a few archetypes but they all play the same, like there are no real difference between barb bers thrower, barb giant thrower and EK fighter thrower. It is the same build.

he was the first healthy fuck meat in a 100 years and the nurses were very thirsty. Since they're all Shar devotees they prayed to Shar for dick and she rewared them by preventing the shadows from devouring him, instead the nurses are the ones doing it.
What Malus is doing is just a send off after the nurses had their fill.

He has humanoid type and Malus+Nurses are undead type. Malus is resistant to necrotis and fire, and nurses to fire just like every other under and he is not
Both hist portrait and model has zero undead features.

He is clearly not a UNDEAD.

wotr is more woke than bg3. the second named character you meet is a tranny and your boss for the first half is a lesbian. there are more colored and diverse people in wotr as a whole as well.

but it's not easy to notice - everything in wotr is ugly, unlike bg3 where you have many good looking characters and then suddenly BAM ugly. you could probably argue that the diversity is more impactful in bg3 in this way, but it would be hard to argue anything else: it's a notably less diverse game.
>build
wotr/rt actually have pretty weak build variety, despite having many different classes and perk choices: nearly all of them are minor variations equivalent to a single magic item in bg3. locking build variety behind class and perk selection was... definitely a choice that the devs made. and instead of treasure and gear providing build utility while the base class provides roleplay, you end up making a fighter/monk/dragonkin/wizard and it's just a bg3 bard with an amulet.
but a lot of guys don't realize this, they see 40 classes and think wow so much build variety. especially autistic types who get decision paralysis, they are wow'd by the class and perk choices and don't realise the build variety is low.

RT is even worse in this aspect, it's the weakest in build diversity despite having 40 levels and hundreds of perks.

you're delusional. look at the actual data:
half of what you said is a hysterical rant ("bg3 is terrible"... why? how?) and the other half is extremely minor points blown up out of proportion (squatter rights, which is a dozen lines of missable dialogue 60 hours into the game... vs wotr which has no end to worse offenders e.g. strong black fighter woman as your very first mandatory party member (game over if she dies in the tutorial).

again, you probably just didn't notice it in wotr because everything is zoomed out and you can't see shit. and that's fine. but it doesn't change the facts.

it has piss poor writing with your typical Californian fantasy.
It has a terrible boring and easy combat without challenge and you HAVE TO self impose it even if you don't minmax, but if you minmax then you don't have any challenge whatsoever.
Its characters are boring VERY special snowflakes
It has no ending slides
It has terrible passing and the act3 is reeks of marvel shit

>no reading comprehension
anon i was not actually asking you to explain why. i was pointing out that you made apparently hysterical statements without any justification.
full context: >half of what you said is a hysterical rant ("bg3 is terrible"... why? how?)
it's too late now to provide the explanation, you already made your melty and got called out.

for the record, your justifications for "terrible" are either disputable ("a terrible boring and easy combat" ... hard to prove), trivial ("no ending slides" ... so what?) or somewhere between subjective opinion and flat out wrong ("characters are boring").
notable is the complete absence of anything that can concretely be laid out (contrast with my statement that wotr has more diverse characters: you can simply count the % and it's either right or wrong. how do you decide "boring" in a real way?).
I think you are just having an emotional moment. take a deep breath and let it pass: you simply did not like bg3 for whatever reason, that's something you can learn to live with, other people don't have your problems.

>most of them cool and [sic]
the context of 'cool items' was items which add build variety. you were supposed to provide two.
Either you missed this because of your poor reading comprehension. or you actually believe Bug Crusher is a cool magic item

/v/ became a Lae'zel board but there was a war here at first. Shadowheart is just very conventionally beautiful and that's hard to get around when your other options are a chick covered in burn scars and a frog.

Of course Lae'zel's VA is really pretty and that video came out of her in the recording booth acting out Lae'zel's mannerisms like a violent, spastic autist and /v/ was immediately smitten.

Then people played the game more and figured out the Bae'zel's romance is the best one in the game after you get past the thorny exterior and the war was won, but it took a while.

>>
>>743741407
Only in the 1st Act. You are actually given factions and different routes to pick from in Act 1 that make a good and evil playthrough feel distinct from each other. This all ends in Act 2.

You can choose to kill everyone at the inn. Which just results in less content for a evil character. Both a good or evil character get free reign of the Keep like they belong there, both get betrayed after freeing the night song, both become enemy of the 3 and Absolute. Both become emporers bitch even if you never ate a tadpole. Act 3 is even more empty as a evil playthrough with no alternative content.

If I was to compare BG3 among RPGs, I would put along RPGs with very basic black and white morality rather than RPGs that have actual choices and factions. Games like Fable or Fallout 3 for example. It's console slop design honestly.
>>
>>743759835
It's pretty unlike BG3 while still being a cRPG...I would say that it's hard to recommend it on the basis that you really liked BG3.

At the same time I wouldn't say you wouldn't maybe like it...I think it's the lesser game graphically, combat wise, and story wise, but it's still good, just...different.

Basically who knows, buy it and try it for 2 hours then give it back if you're not feeling it.

>>
>>743760086
>a good and evil playthrough
there's no such thing in bg3.
first, there's no clear good or evil choice even in act 1. second, there's no coherent playthrough - there are no diverting routes. all that happens is some npcs disappear. from later acts and there are some mentions in conversation. there's nothing like what a route would usually be (different maps or zones, different bosses etc.)

The story is a convoluted mess, the companions are insufferable, the character models are as intentionally ugly as possible, and the inventory management is a travesty of clutter that will inconvenience you for a third of your total play. The only aspects of the game that makes it touchable is the combat & the fact you can play it with friends.
>>
>>743741407
in terms of choice making, reactivity and interactivity, yes. the main story isn't very good, though I think it's kind of an ME2 scenario where you're expected to be invested in the companions and their stuff more than the main plot, which worked on me for the most part. only companions I wasn't huge on was Wyll, Jaheria and Minsc (liked em in 2 but they were just out of place in 3)

Lae'zel was false advertising because Githyanki are literally a race of sluts in lore and they even advertised her in early access as a weird alien chick who will fuck anyone only for her to be rewritten as violently monogamous. How about your oc character? How does their story change? Yeah the dev self-inserts have their storylines and changes, but (You) don't. The grand story doesn't change if you go full murderhobo and massacre everyone. You can't even be actually evil and join the bad guys.

>there isn't THAT much replayability
There is an option get a lot done in one playthrough. But if you went through the game quick while only taking one or two detours between the main story there are significant tangents you can go on. Like you could do ALL of mountain pass, go back and do ALL of Underdark but most people only did one or the other, and even then not everything possible on a given path. If you play like that then there is an ungodly level of replayability.

Plus people actively use it as a stand in for a DnD campaign.

Imagine how long you'd take if you want to play as much of the game as you can but also play with friends so you just fuck about half the time.

Vitiligo is a rare skin condition that causes random melanin loss on patches of skin that can slowly spread. Most famously seen in Michael Jackson. While it doesn't only affect black people they have the most dramatic effects visually for obvious reasons. It became easy brownie points for representation so it suddenly popped up fucking everywhere in videogames during the DEI craze.

Vitiligo is one of those oppression olympics features they feel like adding into every modern game, so the mod removes that garbage. It overhauls the game to look like a lore accurate Sword Coast. It's not supposed to have people from Chult (negroes) everywhere, nor should elves look weird. Elven subraces have very specific racial specs. The drow in BG3 don't even look dark enough because WotC thinks it's racist to have sexy obsidian skin drows, so now they are all light blue or lavender. It's funny, they all look like half-drow now in 5.5e D&D. Also half-elves were removed, even though they were the most popular player race in D&D. WotC is retarded.

isn't shart a half-elf?
and drow were originally a sex dungeon type race, their entire origin lore is borderline pornographic. what are they in the newest revision?

how does anything work in new lore? no halfsies, stats gentrified across the board with elves being the most busted due to not needing sleep, there's legitimately no reason to be anything besides elf, tiefling or anything else with darkvision, racism is over so you don't stand out as a knife ear or whatever the fuck, everyone loves goblins now too
>>
>>743769927
cool, so can i have sex with the goblins
>>
>>743769976
No, because they look like children. But you can with animals

>and drow were originally a sex dungeon type race
They still are. Modern WotC is owned by a toy company so they are actively trying to avoid D&D's foundations by writing all kinds of retcon garbage that nobody but normies that tagged along with 5th edition takes seriously. WotC also ruled that anything published before 2014 (before 5e) is non-canon, but the truth is that 99% of the lore belongs to pre-2014. They've simplified the game so much and don't even bother with lore, so there isn't much going with the 5e. Youtubers like Mr.Rhexx have to dig up most of their lore from pre-5e. Ed Greenwood, the creator of Forgotten Realms, ignores all of this modern garbage too, and runs his home games permanently in the 1350 DR, before even Time of Troubles (BG1&2), before massive corporate retcons. He publishes new books on Realmsbound which is a legal loophole that allows him to publish whatever he wants about the realms without WotC being able to say no. Modern D&D is basically split in the old canon and the new Hasbro retcons.

BG3 was good, but I wish it was better.

>Evil route is a complete excuse, and Swen talking it up was a Todd Howard-level lie
>Karlach feels like she was made in the last 5 minutes.
>Mintharra has no content
>Cazador is a complete disappointment.
>The Emperor is a complete disappointment.
>Shadowheart has been made mid after the Early Access.
>Wyll exists.
>Endings added to the game in a patch long after the release.

Did they need another year to finish the game or something?

The reason Shadowheart is half-elf is because Larian started making the game in 2018, which was 4 years after 5e was released. It was made with the 2014 5th edition mind, which still had half-elves. But the 2024 5.5e refresh removed them, and also butchered countless of other things. I think WotC is finding out right now that not too many people are buying their woke books...

That's pretty standard to CRPGs. Owlcat did the same shit for mythic paths in Wotr

the game mechanics themselves (5e) are a pretty big improvement over the previous wotc iteration (3.5e) in about every way you can measure it. adnd is probably better, but adnd had its own issues - have you ever gone through a combat with that? it takes ages and that's if everyone is ready.

personally, i like odnd style, with the high fatality, the hirelings, the treasure-based levelups. in contrast, adnd gets a little cartoon superhero-y as soon as you get out of the very early few levels. and if you're going to go that way, you might as well use 5e because 5e is - mechanically, in terms of player experience - a better system.

but my question was about the drow lore. i'm familiar with some of the earlier works and fiction, but that wasn't in forgotten realms: it was in greyhawk. a setting much superior to fr

By the way Larian did a pretty based thing. They added the real drow obsidian skin color in the game as an option. They respected the lore even if they didn't have to. I'm pretty sure WotC told them to make the light blue standard skin color because woke racism scare, but Larian went around a lot of these decisions by giving the player a choice.

The "high elf" race by the way is actually not even a thing in the old lore. High elf is what a ignorant peasant would call them because he doesn't know any better, but they are actually sun elves and moon elves, which are drastically different. Under the high elf options they gave you pale skin and blue hair, which is a nod to the moon elves, even if WotC tried to bury them. In the older lore Moon elves were by far the most common elf you would encounter, but they got wiped out by WotC retcons.

Moon elves are wood elves.

Only issue I had with bg3 is the evil path is pretty boring after the first act since you can't really side with the evil choice due to plot reasons

I'd need paid to even pirate this garbage again

Moon elves are adventurous and widespread and least hostile to other races. Wood elves are primitive and stick to their wooded enclaves and don't really even practice magic. They won't kill you because you are human but will definitely hide their settlements, and spot you before you do, and ask what's your business in their woods. The real high elves, the sun elves, are so rare that you basically don't see them anywhere. They are in Evermeet and Evereska. You might see a few in Silverymoon or Waterdeep. They are basically Nazi elf wizards who practice high magic. You 0% of chance of courting their women so don't even try. They looked down on Elminster when he visited Evermeet.
