Both Sony and Microsoft are leaning back into console exclusives. Sony have stopped porting to PC. Xbox have made E-Day and some of their other games Xbox exclusive, and with these recent announcements of Fallout games, we can be sure that maybe some of them will also be exclusive. Both companies don't profit enough on the software side for this move to be viable. While Sony may fare better in the short-term because their games never sold gangbusters anywhere else, games take forever to make, especially big cinematic games like TLOU or God of War. This is why they're so desperate for a live-service hit to subsidize the rest of their catalog like Minecraft/CoD does for Microsoft.Nintendo exclusives are lower budget and faster to make. That's why they'll be able to weather this storm. That's also why they keep their hardware so cheap relative to the other two. Once Sony and Microsoft realize that nobody bought/played their AAAA exclusive slop, they'll be forced to revise their entire business model. Sony might survive this, but Xbox won't. They've reinvented themselves 4-5 times in the past 20 years. Only a matter of time before the AI/cloud company decides their hardware gig is at odds with their other endeavors and shuts them down. We could be in the middle of that already.
