The "desert" is a kiddy sandbox, the "volcano" is a spill over grill where the coals are still hot, the massive cave is either an anthill or under the crawlspace of the house and so on. By the time you finish the game you make the backyard your home. Can't speak for Grounded 2 but the first game was literally the only base building game I ever liked until Palworld. Though it is a true survival game, you will need water and food but if you know what you are doing (how to make drying racks instead of eating raw food) the game is casual enough to be enjoyed if you normally hate survival stuff. Helps it encourage multiplayer as there are four premade characters and they have an endless supply of voicelines, many only exist as a reply to a different character in the moment. The ideal way to play is as a group of four sticking together and achieving every major milestone as a team. The game of course is still fully playable solo you just lose a lot of the main charm in the process. I thankfully was able to play as a group of three at the time.

No flying force you to learn the map, encourage you to harvest/mine as you go, notice more pal interactions, notice more dungeon locations and noteworthy spots in general, love land mounts and give them more love as they aren't replaceable now, etc. For me the downtime of traveling/climbing/picking up shit acutally adds so much to the game that it is unreal. Each area doesn't feel like a small stepping stone, it feel like a whole chapter to my character. Doing more than one tower boss in a given day on such a run would be insane if you want to explore an area first fully. I highly recommend such a playthrough. I think playing only half of the game with a no flying mount rule give far more enjoyment than playing the whole game but skipping basically everything in the progress.

Make your tasks smaller or manually pick the pal up (V key on PC) and throw them into the hot springs. "taking a short break" meant to help but it doesn't always come up.
