I had this sentiment back then too, but replaying 2 now I don't really feel like this. It does lean more into the war angle, but even that I think is pretty well done, things are really scuffed, everything goes wrong all the time, you march into enemy territory with a ton of vehicles and a few minutes later the enemy is using your vehicle to fight you, there's this scrappy, chaotic element to it that maks it feel more real.
