Is Mass Effect: Andromeda one of those games that got giga-memed at launch but was gradually fixed with patches and mods, making it worth playing in 2026?
>>
nobody cares enough, bud
>>
>>743755161
shame, good sci fi space exploration rpgs are so much more interesting than gta slop for me
>>
>>743755020
If it was actually good, at least for a significant amount of people, it would've been talked about like say Cyberpunk.
After the mockery stopped no one said a single word about Andromeda.
>>
>>743755287
>good sci fi space exploration rpgs
yeah andromeda isnt even close to being one of those
>>
>>743755020
It plays like an episode of TNG if you choose the right dialog options.

All I remember about this game are the autism memes

Trailer makes it look like a banger and there are some comments saying it got over-hated but i guess every game has its fans

It was worth playing at launch. It's even more worth playing now, especially on PC, but it also plays really great if you have Series X and get the One X port with stable performance.

It was RELATIVELY fixed. There's still scenes in the games where the eyes dart around like they're retards, but one of the former BioWare devs actually told me on Twitter that it was caused by a "data error". The game uses FaceFX middleware like the previous games (and literally all AAA games) and there was a spreadsheet bug of sorts, which meant that half of the target bones for animation weren't triggering, causing the faces to look dead, and the eyes to look hyperactive.

The writing is very egregious at points, especially moments where "millenial humor" takes over, and just flat out dogshit writing at times that makes you go "Oh my fucking god, what is wrong with the these people?" but even with that, I think it's a very very large and ambitious game that way too many people passed up on.

I like it more than Mass Effect 3. I know that's not a selling point to those who thought ME3 was "95% perfect except the ending" and whatever, but I thought ME3 was a destructive game to the franchise, because it took a great momentum and ran it into the ground with cheap and sort of McDonalds-tier writing compared to the gourmet-meal moments of the first game and at least the Suicide Mission of ME2. It didn't really create a lot of new lore but ruined what it borrowed from the previous games. MEA on the other hand has a large safety net in the fact that it's in another galaxy, and 600 years away from the trilogy. It's unaffected by the endings by being outside the Mass Relay network, and it's also free to fuck up as much of its Andromeda-spinoff lore it has by itself, because at least it isn't telling me how the Geth and Quarians went to war or something. And that to me made it fail more on its own terms, and instead I can appreciate it for some of its qualities.
>>
>>743755020
If I remember correctly they did like the bare minimum of bug fixes but after realizing it wasn't anywhere near as popular as the originals they sunset that shit and moved on
>>
No it was one of those games that was allowed to be completely forgotten about after launch and now only gets remembered occasionally to be laughed at again
>>
Vetra love ^__^
>>
>>743755020
it's an ugly stupid derivative game with ugly stupid derivative writing
>>
No, it’s shit, but not because of le funny maymay faces or animation bugs, and fixing those would do nothing to make it worthwhile to play. The issue is simply that the writing and party members in it are shit, and it doesn’t have basically any memorable ”Mass Effect moments” like discovering Saren’s ship is alive, figuring out Citadel’s true purpose, etc.

Only good thing in it is that it’s arguably the best rendition of Mass Effect combat, but that alone accounts for jack shit when it has nothing else going on for it.

Is Andromeda a better Sci-fi RPG than Starfield?

And this part was predictabe and vindictive to me.
I kept complaining in the ME3 era that it was "new writers, borrowing lore written by someone else" and it's like kids in the sandbox building sandcastles, and then the other kids show up and destroys the sandcastles. It's easier to go and ruin someone's careful work and pretend you're playing with them than to partake in it.
And people being so positive about ME3 outside of its ending pissed me off because all I saw was this bastardization.
Before MEA came out people got excited and was like "No no, BioWare is a great studio, this will be like Mass Effect 1, where they develop the lore!"
But yeah, nice estimation. This is precisely remnants of the ME3 writing team (yes, at least 3 of them) proceeding to make their derivative carbon copy of ME1, instead of truly figuring out Mass Effect from a blank page.

And interviews with Mac was always so apologetic like "It's so hard, working from a blank page!" like yeah, tell me you didn't really contribute to ME1's writing without saying it outright, Mac. Fucking hitchhiker.

>>743755020
If you think that the games problems were purely technical you either have to refresh your memory or you need to kill yourself. And that's not a joke, that's not just a line. I mean it, people who find that games tone and dialogue bearable or even enjoyable shouldn't exist. Shouldn't be alive.
>>
>>743755928
It certainly has more interesting characters.
>>
Good, you opened this message.
>>
>>743755020
It was dogshit it became slightly less dogshit and its certainly not as dogshit as dragon age veilguard.
But it sucks as a mass effect game. Ryder can almost be cute due to how retarded she is.

Is this game fixed or still that bullshit?
>>

i have never seen anything interesting related to Starfield, no matter the source trailer, screenshots, webm all look like the most soulless dull shit ever. If u gifted me the game for free i would still not bother downloading 100gb+ to test it.
>>
>>743756059
I remember an interview at the time, where the Studio Manager Aaryn Flynn said they had changed the Writer Peer Review because some felt it was "brutal", and now instead you were instructed to be "friendly, and constructive." This is precisely why MEA failed so hard. Because 3 millenial women joined the writer pit, so no one was allowed to say "That's just a straight up terrible line of dialog." It's because they kept flagging Mac Walter's writing on ME3 that he started hiding from the meetings and stuff. They went about it from the total wrong end.
>>
>>743756205
It's fixed enough that it's noticeable. They patched the eye shaders a month after launch so it doesn't look like everyone has cartoon eyes anymore. The animations are also slightly better now. Everything else is the same, and it's still a very decent game especially considering Sci Fi barely gets made in AAA projects on this scale anymore.
>>
>>743756205
>>743755020
It's functional, but that's it.
It's still a game using the Ubisoft open world approach and suffers heavily from MCU ironic writing

They made Asari ugly as fuck in Andromeda because the game was woke.
>>
>>743755020
It’s similar to Veilguard, in that even if it had completely squeaky clean gameplay, the characters are so insufferable that they make playing it difficult.
But that’s a moot point, because lol no, it’s not.
>>
>>743755020
I played it like 2 years ago. I didn't like it. I didn't even find the combat to be good like many claimed. I much prefer ME3's combat.
>>
>>743756269
>"That's just a straight up terrible line of dialog."
I don't think any of them disliked the writing because that is straight up just their style. Very YA novel, very "saving the galaxy with my friends", very sarcastic funny. To avoid that kind of writing you need to set out from the start to write a "do or die" story full of grizzled veterans. Anything less than that will end up with a bunch of main characters who communicate in ironic quips.
>>
>>743755020
If you can get it on sale, maybe. The gameplay is genuinely good, but the writing is marvelslop tier. And there's a lot of it, it just gets in the way of the enjoyable gameplay.

Andromeda ruined the fast paced precision gameplay of Vanguard. So it will never be as good for me. Floaty nonsense and guns feeling extremely unsatisfying. Compared to ME2 and ME3.
And the game bugged out and ruined my save fie. Every time I tried to load the game it instant crashed. I gave up on it. Not worth playing. Also the characters and new species are extreme cringe.

Andromeda is a missed opportunity.
Spoilers ahead, if you care about such things:
We were supposed to explore a new galaxy and new planets, encounter species coming face-to-face with a human for the first time, and experience firsthand the culture shock of such a meeting.
Instead, we run into almost all the Milky Way species again; with the same inter-species dynamics, and the only new discovery is the Angara; which they instantly learn to speak English by "decoding your transmissions" and send you off on fetch quests, rather than both sides marveling at the discovery of a new intelligent species.
You don't discover new planets; you aren't even the first person to land there, since settlements already exist, so what’s the point? There’s no spirit of exploration, no "I discovered this"; it’s basically the Mass Effect trilogy without an established setting.
It’s a huge disappointment for me. So many wasted opportunities.

Gameplay was pretty good
Story, characters, setting, overall feel was beyond complete dogshit. They should have called it anything other than Mass Effect and it would have been fine. Now they're going to drag the series name even further through the mud with some half-assed relaunch through ME4

Honestly? It’s okay. I played it and I don’t regret it, but by the time the credits rolled I was fine with it being over.
Multiplayer was lots of fun though.

Majority of 4chan's OG audience was younger Gen X/elder milliennials that had odd/fringe interests but in general were normal people (or at least could mask it very well).

Yes obviously the "forever alone" meme originated here but those types were always the minority early on.

Yes obviously "tits or GTFO" originated here but it never felt inherently hateful. Moreso it was transactional; posters making themselves known as women more or less knew what they were doing and knew what the price of attention was.

It wasn't until GG/fappening/2016 election that this place got flooded with bitter Elliot Rogers types. Those couple years along with the rise of mobile irreparably changed the site's demo forever and objectively for the worst.

Your companions were either bland or extremely cringe, with the obligatory old krogan that was at least not insufferable. Other characters on your side were also cringe and millenial in the worst way. The overarching story was very obvious, the gameplay was fine honestly, but there were so many stupid things going on that it boggles the mind.
Why the fuck would you bring krogans, batarians and vorcha to a new galaxy when they're all retards? guess what happens? The krogans get angery they put on guard and construction jobs and rebel as expected and now are aggressive and cunts just per their m.o. The new race is also extremely gay, stupid space catfishes. They're supposedly extremely emotional yet that only shows in 1 scene, rest of the time they act just like everyone else.

very obvious it was written by the b or c-team.

I bet it's not that bad if you aren't pissed that they made such a chickenshit decision to get away from the consequences of ME3. The cowardice of Andromeda being in another galaxy and centuries separated is at least half the reason people hated it. Now it's been so long who really cares.
