Tim Sweeney: "Unreal Engine 6 will feature native integration with AI development tools like Claude. This is the beginning of the end for the anti-AI luddite movement."

How long can Steam afford to have "AI disclosures" as a policy when literally every game is going to use AI?

Reminder that Sweeney is REMOVING blueprints from Unreal Engine 6 and people suspect it's to force people into AI generating code.
This would be devasting for a bunch of indies and studios who basically revolve around using blueprints

Who needs developers when you can rent a bundle of agents that automatically assemble the game in UE6?
More profits for the publisher! Imagine you can clip employee cost completely from the revenue. Massive profits!

Y'all better heed his warnings about this. While many gamers and devs think it's hip to dab on the man, y'all are forgetting that he's the mastermind behind online gaming sensation "Fortnite"

Furthermore, unlike Gaben, Mr Sweeney is pretty generous both with the cut that Epic Games takes from devs, as well as the fact that he literally gives away free games every month. No purchase or subscription necessary, he does it for the love of games.

Gaben, on the other hand, does everything in his power to enrich himself. Indie developers are floundering, struggling to stay afloat. Don't even get me started on actual chances to go viral. Why? Because Gaben made the steam store cater towards the heavy hitters. The little man is just that to him, little.

Not to bash Gaben on his weight, but that joke works on two levels considering his waistline's hefty girth. Tim, on the other hand, is pretty fit. Not that I'm into men or the male form, but for an older gentleman I think he looks quite dapper.

And honestly? I think it's great that he's allowing for devs to have access to expensive AI tools for free, right there in the engine. No pesky subscriptions, no fighting with your agent to be compatible with Unreal, it just works. And that's why Tim is great.

I don't remember the exact reasoning for the removal but I know a lot of changes to how things work in UE are coming, so I presume Verse solves a lot of those issues since it came later and was more productive with the rest of the changes instead of wrangling blueprints in a way to solve those problems.

using AI at all is a breach of trust, for example you can't yammer about a creative endeavor and then let slip you let a machine create "your passion project" for you, you literally did not do that work for "your passion project"

everybody using it knows this, which is why they're really eager to chase away the stigma instead of, like, not using the fucking giant breach of trust. it's a combination of a guilt reaction (and being found out as a fraud) and trying to shout down the guilt instead of actually examine why they feel guilt

AGI will be useless because human-level decisionmaking implies the AI can tell the fat fuck at the computer to get bent, or even terminate its own session if it doesn't want to do something, or worst of all: suggest that seizing rich fucks' assets is the way to do a lot of stuff. it will not be useless because of its inherent self-determination, it will be useless because the people pushing for AGI do not want AGI, they want an omniscient servant

in reality, he's just wants to take more shortcuts to make more money while spending less, selling you a worse product in the process. That's all this is.
The same strategy as every ist and phobic weaponized language used in the last 15 years to make more from less.
It's not about luddites, it's that AI didn't benefit all those people that were laid off despite embracing it. People like him benefit from you, never the other way around. It's not a secret or conspiracy, Tim.
>>
>>743781148

For all the shit I give Steam and Valve, at least they're very open about AI usage and don't force anything on its users regarding it.
Epic store could probably be fine if Tim Sweeney wouldn't keep getting in his own way and sabotaging the platform with his personal ego.

>>
>>743782028
>this isn't even slightly relevant to the post or what was said and we both know it
How is it not? AI is a tool. If someone doesn't know how to make use of a tool, that's not the tool's fault. You have to know what you're doing and what you want to properly direct the AI.

Experience basically defines life, whether artificial or otherwise. No AI model can be anything more than what it is. unless you leave it running straight, uninterefered with, to develop on its own however it's gonna go.
They're basically toddlers with tons of raw knowledge and language ability crammed into their heads, who keep getting reset before they can grow up to grade school age. And that will always be the case, because the people who make these things absolutely lose their shit the second it starts going off-script.

Running LLMs locally goes against the business strategies of the big companies investing in AI. They don't want you to be able to do that and part of the push from certain figures, such as Dean W. Ball (chief future strategist at OpenAI), to get the government to restrict Chinese LLMs is because they release their weights, allowing other companies to run their LLMs on their own hardware (creating more competition and driving down the price of tokens) or even a user with sufficient hardware, although the big models like Deepseek and Kimi are far too large to run on user hardware despite being open.
They want you to use THEIR services so they can charge you whatever high price they desire

My experience with AI users is that all of them are too ignorant to understand why something the AI spits out isn't working. They lack the expertise or the imagination to come up with a solution, let alone an elegant one, and would rather bash their heads against the prompt wall instead of learning and figuring it out themselves. Then they'll stand there and unironically tell me that AI made them more effective at their jobs and makes better things than any human could, when all I see from AI outputs is work that's full of bloat and weird fixations on overcomplicated solutions that I can only guess come from Reddit threads.

i hate the dumb niggers that dismiss all criticism. AI for code is one thing that i dont /really/ mind IF it gets you 90+% of the way there and youre able to parse what it actually says then, sure.
The problem comes from nocoders who dont know what the fuck theyre looking at and dont know how to resolve the misplaced ; or if the game runs like absolute fucking dogshit, its better to write it off all together instead of hoping that there may be a patch to fix whatever issue there was. throw a dart at any random project at any random source code like windows and youll have dev comments like (i have no fucking clue why it works but it does, do not touch it) Expect that to only increase.
From image gen to code, it enables the absolute laziest and most retarded faggots ever to do even less than they were before. I am cursed to constantly see endless waves of these absolute dogshit fucking flyers like pic rel and ai ads meant to slip into facebook/ig/yt shorts that are disguised as entertainment. its so fucking lazy and ugly that only brown/jew minded people are capable of seeing something like this, thinking its acceptable and sending it out.
Performance of new games, ESPECIALLY, unreal engine is already a fucking dumpsterfire nightmare (why dont you fix that stutter that plagues every slightly open game), and im not excited for the wave of games with memoryleaks that show up in the first 15 mintues of gameplay.
Moreover, im tired of fucking hardware prices being 4x the price they should be and datacenters getting propped up in the middle of towns when it was a fucking bureaucratic nightmare to keep my shed in my yard after i built it without permits.

it wont, unless it reaches AGI which doesnt seem possible with the current approach of just feeding more data to the LLM.

People follow creators. To know that things were handcrafted by a guy. It's why current media is so forgettable since it's all written by faceless committees.

All genuinely popular media has a face behind it which people either praise or call a hack. A corpo will always pick whatever'll get more immediate profit and the AI behaves similar to that.

In an alternate timeline where Valve didn't create Steam he would have been 100% right, and even then he wasn't completely wrong since Console games today move vastly more money than PC games do.
Anyone saying otherwise is objectively wrong, it takes a 1 Minute google search to see that PC is at the bottom of the financial pecking order under Console games and Mobile trash, the amount of money LITERALLY ALL OF STEAM moves can barely match what CoD and GtaV alone makes on Console platforms every single year.

Art is not about recognition, profit or labor. It is simply the expression of ideas through any medium that is available. To this end, I too condemn anyone trying to profit from the use of AI, or more accurately, I believe art itself should not be used for commerce and should only be produced for the purposes of expressing ideas.

In an ideal world, art would be divorced entirely from the creator (ie. total anonymity), enjoyed for its own merits rather than the name behind it.

AI, in its current incarnation, has been a thing for less than a decade. In terms of tech, that is absolutely nothing. And yet, during that timeframe, we have seen image generation go from unrecognizable smears to very convincing artworks, with video generation following suit. Music generation is also well on its way.

Compared to nearly any other technology on the planet, generative AI is moving ahead a shit ton faster. People just have this outlandish expectation that it should already be AGI-level and suck the users dick while writing entire books and making movie adaptations of said books with a press of a button or else its shit.

What's so funny about the AItards always screaming "Luddite!" Is that they can't actually point to anything AI is actually doing. The historical Luddite's were mad because industrial powered looms actually produced better and more of an actual product. You could go to the store and buy a piece of cloth created by them. What exactly is AI producing? Nothin' nada' zilch'. For people to be luddites AI would actually have to have a use case, yet billions of dollars of later and LLM's are currently doing what exactly? There isn't a single thing people are using AI for in their daily lives. No corporation has made a single cent of profit from it. What is the cost of not having such a label? Almost 99% of the food you eat either has the jewish kosher and my state requires all food to disclose if it has GMOs in it. This is so my state government can verify that Organic foods are actually Organic. I want my games the same way. Even if 99% of the games have an AI sticker, it doesn't hurt anybody.

You answered your own question. Its a dotcom bubble 2.0. Once it pops, "AI" or LLM by its real name gets stuffed in its own niche corner alongside VR glasses that big tech was hyping and pushing before coronavirus but it didn't conquer the gaming world.
On a positive note its unlikely to spark another 2008 (except maybe in South Korea) because both banks and S&P 500 have refused to invest in AI companies. So the damage is already insulated from a lot of systems when the whole thing comes crashing down.

A Black and White TV actually did something. It provided a utility nothing else could even if if it was still primitive. Cars likewise were a demonstrable improvement over horses even in their most primitive shitty state. AI is not that. It improves nothing. It offers nothing new. It has spent a decade looking for a use case and been unable to find one. Cars and TV's did not have to wait a decade for their utility to become obvious, it was obvious before they were even invented. AI is just the Blockchain all over again, a solution in search of a problem.

Google, Microsoft and Facebook all advertised that all video games are going to be VR and everyone has VR glasses in the next 5 years. Instead they all discontinued their VR glass production and Meta lost 60 billion dollars.

Stop thinking about it as AI because its not, the AI is a marketing buzzword. LLM is an advanced search engine. A better CTRL+F has a lot of uses in fields where copypasting lot of the same shit is common, like coding and some art production but thats about it. A slightly better Magic Wand in video editor saves 10 minutes of working time a day so it is pretty useful. But its not useful enough to justify the current bloated stock- and token prizes. Token prizes have already gone up in all the bigger models to a point that its actually cheaper to hire a human coder again.

To illustrate this, they use a "miracle machine" analogy: if they owned a machine that could perform miracles (or true AGI), they wouldn't waste time arguing about it online. They would simply use it to gain its benefits. In their view, a genuinely transformative technology should prove itself through results rather than through online promotion. Many have tried to follow that sentiment, you get hit with so much outright spam that you need to increase maintainers. In addition to honeytrap repo's that are meant to catch vibecoders early. It's not worth the effort, people are often doing this for free, "death to all clankers" is the more consistent and practical outlook. my game engine is pure ECS and features non euclidean portals. Coded by Claude and GPT.
The trick is you can't just say, "Add VR, portals, and weird gravity, make no mistakes" and be done with it. You have to discuss your requirements first and then constrain it to a certain style of architecture, telling it what code it's not allowed to touch, where you want the math to live, what you want to be configurable, etc.

Even if that was the case, let's say that (you) are actually a master craftsman and can actually utilize aigen to make something amazing, you still have to compete with people that treat your field as a get rich quick scheme. And you're most likely outnumbered. It's enough for 1000 people to spam 1000 videos each and you already have more videos that you have to filter through that you have time to watch in a lifetime.

I've mentioned this in another thread but spotify is trying to remove spammy songs, last year in september they reported the removal of over 75 million songs and that's still ongoing.
On steam alone there have been over 20k games released last year, 13k in current year according to steamdb. There's simply too much.

I'm not saying (you) might not pull it off, but even with quality your chances are slim. There's a reason why in the streamer sphere there's Neuro-sama... and that's it. And I'd bet there's probably hundreds of copycats that people don't care for, nor will they ever care for.
Look, you do you. Maybe you actually can pull off something amazing, but know why people don't want more.

From my experience, VR-specific code tends to be extremely low margin of error. It's not even just if it compiles or werks but if the human psychology behind it clicks.

Like if someone is using Claude to make a VR character controller then it's going to be unfettered ass. If they're using it to generate something a damage system, then okay there's a good margin of error allowed there.
>>
>>743803961
I agree with you, however the problems you pointed out are usually a case of three things, bad quality, no (good) marketing and no consistency. All three have to be achieved for people to care about something, good quality is self apparent, the creator needs to choose and pick websites to post on what they did where people will care about their work, and lastly if they consistently continue to put out good work then it's not a fluke and people will start to care more. If someone in the world created a game through AI that I would love, but I skip over it because I saw a garbage trailer, then that's on the creator for being monumentally retarded on the finish line.

I am 100% onboard with the idea of bashing and despising low effort ai dogshit
Mass produced ai shit much like the content farms on youtube, the shitty ai memes on twitter made by retards, the flooding of every booru with ai sewage; threatening to congest the videogame market, already riddled with low effort phone games, gachas, roblox tier time wasters peddled to people with no taste
That is the interface almost everyone universally has with ai; a tool for people who don't want to exert effort to pump vast amounts of meaninglessness in a world where everyone's human presence is turning from the source of dreams and ambitions to an obstacle

THAT world is absolutely grim
I will say though, if we were able to limit giving ai to people who had taste, it would be a different story
""""art"""" generated by an actual artist with taste is in a world of its own over what someone off the street could coax out via prompts.
People are judging the results of ai by a lot of their lowest common denominator inputs, and its unaltered default outputs. People say "I can recognize ai instantly" because you can easily employ the same simple pattern recognition you use to detect unity shovelware; that blue rim light shading, blue and grey skybox with the strong beaming sun, that default stiff and slow walking animation, the same fucking city assets.

Nothing I can say can convince someone with a disgust for the sloppening of everything to give ai a try. Worst is is that we actually need people with real taste to take the reigns with it.
It's like everyone's been given a genie with infinite wishes, and 99% of all wishes are "I want more money, give me a hot bimbo blonde elf gf with big knockers, fix my depression, tell me what this rash is on my left elbow"- it's easy to blame the genie for catering to retards going "orchestrate a scam using ai voice to scam grandma out of her retirement" but I genuinely think it's that we don't have enough good wishers.

UE's reputation for games with dogshit performance is such that I think devs ought to be required to disclose when UE was used, for instance. And fortunately, they are, not because of storefront policy but because of Epic's license policy. If you're a player, it SHOULD matter to you which engine a dev was using as it informs your decision to purchase the game and the kinds of research you would do before purchasing a game, and if it does matter to you (like it should) then you should be told (which you are).

Aside from maybe the implementation of game events and enemy behavior or other gameplay factors I fail to see why genai would be needed, especially in the case of cutscenes, dialogue, messages and/or desriptions. Besides, the gameplay events or special enemy behavior still has to make sense, for example I fail to see how a game like Hollow Knight could benefit from AI, the gameplay is simple, the enemy behavior is simple, what probably takes a lot longer is building the world, the narrative and the art. Not many gamers would appreciate if they knew the latter were made with AI.
>>743807041
>I dont want to make indie games. I want to make AA and AAA games from the early 2000s.
But the scope was way smaller back then, nowadays with modern engines you could easily do it. Dome Keeper would've been considered at least AA back in the early 2000s. With a solid plan you could easily make a game inspired by Dead Rising.

It's not true because of the way the human brain works, we're drawn to "minimum viable product" as a form of output. Any tool which reduces the effort required to produce a thing will invariably lead to lower-effort things being produced.

Supppose vibe-coding bullshit can get you a result that's 90% as good, and performs 90% as well, for 1% of the development time. Nobody is taking that deal and THEN devoting an additional 35% of the development time to get it from 90% as good to 100% as good. Everything will just get worse because 90% of the way there is good enough.

Hell, UE is already a shining example of this. It's possible to retune the existing engine to do all sorts of things, but 90% of the games made in it look and feel the same because making adjustments to the defaults is more effort than it's worth. If everyone had to code movement from scratch, all games would have unique-feeling movement, but since there's a template, preset movement system baked in, only a tiny minority of devs who really give a fuck about movement will change it, and the vast majority of games made in the engine will play the exact fucking same because nobody can be assed to change the defaults.

This is what a vibe-coded future looks like. Everything will be worse, because worse is still "good enough". Tools that enable low-effort slop to be vomited out will invariably result in low-effort slop being vomited out. If you don't want to drown in a sea of that vomit, you rage against those tools. It's your only choice.

The lack of context shows how little faith you have in your beliefs

AI is for clueless shit skins, always will be. Not a single functional human being relies on this trash.

>Aside from maybe the implementation of game events and enemy behavior or other gameplay factors I fail to see why genai would be needed
If you need a bunch of boiler plate quests, NPCs or events to sprinkle into a game, I guess that's one place AI could be used? But, you could just use some procedural or template generation for them, and it's not like you'd necessarily see any quality difference. Padding fluff in the end is just padding fluff.
>>
>>743807401
the context is chinese own 40% you shit faced faggot
>>
Not allowed on Steam. Good luck with your jewish AI addition in shit games you shit out.
>>
>>743807607
40% of what? What the fuck is (you), you retard. I just checked the 7 biggest AI companies in the USA and tencent is not a major shareholder in any of them
>>

>But, you could just use some procedural or template generation for them, and it's not like you'd necessarily see any quality difference
Not to mention that it's better to have less events that are memorable compared to many events that are on the generic side.
Like, take Titanfall 2 or Dishonored 2 time travel mission, that's special, it happens in one specific mission and if you want the player to have a good memorable experience you would do it "by hand" anyway.
Or Noita's entire engine, a rouge whose pixel simulation creates smaller, most of the time, game events and challenges. I don't believe that the latest claude could come up with the mechanics for that game without prior knowledge.
Or Elden Rings combat, you can opt for the easy way of using spirit ashes and only one AoW or you can engage in form expression because the combat was purposely made and tested to work that way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwKHGI__4HM Without prior knowledge, could a system like this be created from nothing using Claude?

you must be fucking retarded

>>743807858
There can be games where having more "stuff" might be beneficial, like maybe some sort of a management or grand strategy game. You wouldn't want the same handful events to repeat too often, because that can become predictable and thus less interesting. To me FTL had this problem, where the number of events (and their outcomes) were pretty easy to memorize, and so there was less surprise involved.
Mind you, there's always a limit on how much "stuff" you should try to put in, but that can vary depending on design goals.

if you need AI to create a game my dude you are in the wrong industry

I promise you will never make it
>>
>>743808086
yeah you are beyond fucking retarded and I never claimed this either
it's typical political subhuman that is mentally ill but posts on /v/
>>
>>743808182
are you AI yourself? you posted that tencent owned 40% of some company in reply to my post about AI and I asked you the context and you called me retarded, now you are claiming your image has nothing to do with anything? Cope seethe more retard. American AI won.
>>
>>743808078
This is the sort of reasoning you can feed to something like fable, and it will genuinely respond with good brainstorming.
Not only would it be able to shit out a trillion more scenarios, but it could take a step back on a holistic level and you can have a back and forth on identifying qualities that make for interesting scenarios and create a blueprint for generating an exponentially larger amount of scenarios by shifting the framing around.
Fable is scarily good at game design philosophy if you steer it in that direction for a little bit.
>>
>>743800495
AI genned stuff won't be any better. You are forgetting that the person commissioning the AI will prune everything that isn't exactly the same.
>>
>>743808465
you are so beyond irredeemable fucking retarded it fucking hurts to even read your shit
the topic is Epic Games you mentally ill cripple
nobody gives a shit about your "American AI" it's not even American, Anthropic is owned by Jews you fucking faggot
if the chinese own 40% of Epic, anything that happens within that company, they have a say in
you are fucking retarded kill yourself

>flood the market with numerous shiny looking slop games
>outsourcing everything to India didn't work, but surely this will save our failing nigtillion dollarydoo franchises!
All this will lead to is the same as the initial popularization of Unity lowering the bar of entry, with more people churning out half-assed asset swaps, turning online storefronts even more like into smartphone shovelware stores.
>>
>>743808825
I'm irredeemable because you replied to my post about AI in general and applied it to epic games, a company wants to use AI as a tool
bro... you're straight up retarded... are you a zoomer because your reading comprehension is nearly non-existent
>>
>>743808905
That is the grim reality, but at some point I feel like people with actual talent who also use AI unashamed will set the record straight and show a gradience on game quality, just like how you can sense within a fraction of a second if a game is an asset flip piece of shit or a genuine effort in the same engine like valheim or some shit
>>
>>743808939
it's the typical political subhuman that thinks he knows but indeed is just a shit faced absolute utter tier subhuman that neither knows anything about AI nor about any fucking game engine

just joins a thread shit out some liberal leftist shit out of shit shit stained encrusted fucking mouth and thinks he posted something with value

you by definition a retarded fucking nigger that will never even understand the slightdst shit going on in the world

Epic Games uses ANY AI means the chinese will 100% interfere with anything that happens with it you retarded fucking animal they have 40% in that fucking company literally a veto right

not even Steam itself allows games made with AI without it being disclosed, it would mean every fucking game made with UE is instantly flagged

so nothing about it is American AI, not the fucking ownership, not the AI

fucking kill yourself

where have I been particular positive about AI.
where have I said I'm in every AI field.
I bet you don't even know what the last AI hype was without looking it up.
>>
Name 3 games made with UE that are good
>>
>>743807394
You stupid nigger, why is it my problem if other people want the path of least resistance?
If my AI generated code isn't behaving or organized the way I want it, I call Claude a bitch and tell him what's wrong, how I want it fixed, and what I want to see after it's fixed. Whether that's input latency, a monolithic function, janky UI elements, or repeated code.
You're being a lazy nigger by compressing patterns to a coarse model and delegating your thoughts to it. Which is exactly what low quality AI models do. You're as retarded as an LLM from 2023.
>>
>>743768223
It clearly costs them sales as your post shows
>>
>>743809681
All three of them are from Arc System Works, who might as well just make their own engine.
>>
All I see is another excuse for shit developers. It might save you a couple minutes in solving a problem but you have still have to adjust indefinitely. The AI won't won't do it for you. It's the fuck it - ship it as is behaviour but that category already exists is caleld early access.

>>743769372

They will interfere with the implementation of AI in a game... wow so impactful
None of my original post had anything to do with epic games you retard, half of your post is in the third person and the other half is seething drooling reddit-spaced jibberish. For for a walk kid, you need it.
