I think this might be one of the best REs.
It's like playing RE4 but if Ashley was actually helpful.

Nigga Sheva literally can shoot you and use your fucking herbs with next to full life. Shes the worst coop AI of all time.

Only way to play this game is with another person, and thats why people hate it.

Sheva's AI is perfectly fine, you just got filtered. If she's using your herbs in stupid situations, stop giving them to her. If she's shooting you, stop getting her line of fire.

Or just get a friend/GF and play the way the game was designed from the ground up to play.

You have a friend/GF dont you?

>Most financially successful Resident Evil to date
why are you lying you fool?
All 5 did was take the same approach as 4 and move further away from survival horror into generic TPS action slop. Only 6 outdoes it in this respect.

At least 4 is iconic enough through its settings and characters.

RE5 hasn't generated the most money, tard. Improve your wording.

what doesn't count?
if you're talking about units shipped, then RE5 is absolutely top of the list
in terms of most financially successful, then RE2R is
be specific about your criteria.
>>
>>743821525
RE5 sold more than RE2R. And bear in mind, since RE2R was a multiplatform + PC release on gen 8 consoles, it got more discounts. RE5 was a gen 7 game that got multiple rereleases on modern consoles and platforms, so it holds its value better.
>>
>>743822036
yes, keep moving the goalposts.
you RE5 apologists are all the same.

>>
>>743822036
RE5 is literally on more platforms than RE:2. It was on the exact same number of platforms at release as well.
RE5 launched on PS3, 360, and PC.
RE:2 launched on PS4, XBO, and PC.

RE5 is currently on or has released on
>PS3
>360
>GFWL (Discontinued)
>Steam
>PS4
>Xbox One
>Nintendo Switch
>PS5
>Xbox Series
>Nintendo Switch 2
RE:2 is currently on or has released on
>PS4
>Xbox One
>Nintendo Switch (Discontinued Cloud Version)
>PS5
>Xbox Series

Not to mention, RE:2 outpaced RE5's sales during their "new" period. RE5 only sold 5 million copies after two years on the market, a number RE:2 had crossed after only a few months.
>>
>>743819028
It's alright but the setting overall fucking blows. The last few sections of the game are really bad. Spearchugger section is probably the best.
Sheva is a fucking retard.

RE5 looks unbelievably good for a 2009 game.
This is a direct screenshot without any mods.
However, I hear that the game does not run at 4K.
>>743819028
I think it came out on the heels of RE4 while being on newer gen consoles is what made RE5 so successful financially for Capcom.
>>
>>743819028
I played this with a friend on release and did have a lot of fun with it, but the game as a whole was much less memorable than RE4. Maybe it was due to Shinji Mikami not directing it. Still the remake will be worth a playthrough when it inevitably comes out.

>>

It's only flaw is that it's fucking short to the point it feels like a budget title. But this also prevents it from the tradition of the series to have a shitty 2nd half.
>>
>>743819028
You haven't actually played RE5 recently, have you? The co-op mechanics ruin it and its level design sucks too

It still is, just like 6 but those whiny faggots ate up 4 remake and requiem despite those being 6 dialed up to 11 with over the top retard action
>>
>>743819028
played this game for the first time like a year ago, i just didnt find anything wrong with itm i mean, it's pretty much RE4 all over again but you shoot niggers this time
>>
>>743830138
Neither 4 remake nor Requiem surpass 6 in terms of action and spectacle. If anything, Requiem is a tamer 6 on a budget. 4 remake is just 4 with better graphics and re2 remake and revelations 2 gameplay mashed together.
>>
>>743822571
I literally solo’d Professional mode. The Jill fight was the only actually hard part. Just set her to cover instead of attack.

The campaign is a great co-op experience, solid solo. DLC campaigns are a step down but pretty good. 5 Mercs + Reunion is one of the best things Capcom ever made to the point where the wildly scaled-back rendition in The Mercenaries 3D is still very good.

>>743829371
Every face scan in an RE Engine game to date has been some IG model that is very attractive (though some didn't translate great, mostly Trish in DMC5). Regardless if a potential remake doesn't have Business Sheva it goes from unnecessary to worthless.

Problem with 5 for me is that it's way too short and it's certainly not like it's short and 100% good all around. I take all the worst parts of 4 over 5 any day. Once you defeat Irving it kind of turns to shit levelwise. Never cared at all for the Tomb Raider section. Next problem are the bosses because every single one of them is gimmick trash. Not a single good bossfight and no just because Wesker says some stupid meme lines doesn't make the boss fight any better. There being no New Game just perpetual New Game Plus. Professional being an infinite ammo difficulty. Just a me thing but I also don't like that you can slect chapters. I prefer having to do it from start to finish everytime like 4.
>>

>There being no New Game just perpetual New Game Plus.
You choose the weapons you bring, anon. You can just buy non upgraded weapons again if you want, as that's the only thing that's different from a fresh playthrough.
>Professional being an infinite ammo difficulty
That's RE8. RE5 professional is perfectly doable with limited ammo.
>Just a me thing but I also don't like that you can slect chapters. I prefer having to do it from start to finish everytime like 4.
I shall pray to god everyday that you never design an action game.

Wrong. Business suits are the sexiest things a woman can wear. In fact, put Sheva in C. Viper's suit since suitpants are hotter than pencil skirts too. You're also wrong on a gameplay level since Business Sheva is the most fun character in Reunion.
>>
>>743819328
Sheva is literally a aimbot with rifle and is a fucking menace with the eletric rod
>>
>>743832346
First of all, i play Mercenaries United. Secondly, i see absolutely no appeal in suits. Thirdly, Sheva looks cool as a red riding hood lookalike.
>>
>>743832439
Sheva literally never misses so she's great with snipers and SMGs.
>>
It’s just like a worse 4 with forced coop partner that is merely a burden if you’re playing alone, and while it is not offensively bad, nothing in it really stands out.
>the city in the beginning is probably the best part, but it’s still decisively worse level design than 4’s village
>mines are bland as fuck
>swamp is bland as fuck
>ruins are even blander
>le secret military base takes proportionally wayyyyyyy too much of the overall length of the game, and even it has nothing as memorable as 4’s Island, and 4’s Island wasn’t too great either beyond Regenerators
>finale is uber memeable, and even kind of cool in all of its retardation, but it’s still just a chain of boss fights

Still better than 6, because it isn’t offensively bad and at least it ends before it gets boring. But it’s still bland.
>>
>>743832619
i hate RE5 SMGs
they shoot like the ammo is peashoots
>>
>>743832640
>le secret military base takes proportionally wayyyyyyy too much of the overall length of the game
It's only five levels, anon.
>>
>>743832851
I just had to check that I’m not talking out of my ass, and checked a longplay video to see how long the game is and how long the military base / ship section takes.

The entire game takes 6 hours 40 minutes. The transition from ruins to base happens at 4:05. Weskering stars at 6:20. So, military base + ship takes about one third of the game. Bit more than Island in RE 4 (about 2 hours of a 7 hour game), not quite as much as I remembered. Felt like it took half of the game in my memories.
>>
>>743833574
Could be that you got stuck in those levels for some reason, or just disliked them so much it felt like it was dragging on.
>>
>>743819028
If it weren't for the Wesker bits nobody would give a single fuck about 5. It was largely indistinguishable from every other mediocre co-op shooter of its time, and the nicest things you can say about it is that Sheva is hot and that it isn't 6.
>>
>>743819028
I hate RE5 because what little convention RE4 retained was jettisoned out of the fucking stratosphere. This shit is basically just a bro-op shooter, and I couldn't care less about that.
>>
>>743834625
>and that it isn't 6
I'll take 6 over 5. As misguided as that game it, it at least tried to be everything, including the occasional nod to classic RE. There are bits in 6 that I enjoyed more than any part of 5, even if I had to slog through a half dozen sequences that were arguably worse to get to each one.
>>
can I just skip the first resident evil and hop into the modern remakes without missing much?
It feels like an even clunkier point and click game.
>>
>>743834835
If you don't like the first one you won't like any of them
>>
>>743834835
You are literally the target audience for the remakes.
>>
>>743834835
Storywise the remakes are their own thing, with only the 1 remake, which has a fixed camera angle, replacing the original. You can very much just skip to the remakes if you want.
>>
>>743834969
1 and 1 remake play much differently than 2 remake or any game after 4.
>>
>>743834625
RE5 controls better than a vast majority of its contemporaries and has great enemies. Its campaign has 7th gen's issues all over it (very jarring setpiece design, poor environmental variety, slow pacing at times, bad boss fights, many QTEs) but mechanically it holds its own.

>>743834738
6's only upsides outside of the interesting prone options are in the Jake & Sherry campaign with VERY few exceptions and even then Jake & Sherry are the ones shackled to shitty-ass Ustanak. 6's enemies beyond the basic ones which build off of 4 & 5's suck, the bosses are even worse than 5's, Stamina feels like shit, and the inventory system is absolutely horrid after two equally excellent systems in 4 & 5.
>>
>>743835128
I'd say 6's bosses are better than 5, and the only issue of the inventory is having limited space for ammo which is a nuisance at worse. Should have dropped it entirely since we can use all weapons and grenades at once now. Stamina is a low point but it's only an issue if you're spamming melee or quickshots.
>>
>>743832640
>still better than 6

I actually picked up RE6 the other day because it was $5 and it's the only mainline RE I've never played at this point so I was like fuck it. What should I expect? Any tips?
>>
>>743835815
Just (try to) enjoy it and don’t read too much spoilers.

It’s a batshit insane game where Capcom decided to include basically every idea that was thrown at the wall, making it a game full of surprises both amusing and supremely shitty. I personally disliked it for being badly paced, but there’s some humor to be had in seeing all the dumb shit in its storyline.
>>
>>743835815
You know how 4 expects you to eventually find out that you can stagger enemies with shots into melee finishers? 6 is designed like that from the bottom up, do NOT treat this like classic RE because it isn't that. Stagger into melee as often as you can get away with. Also, lying prone is more useful than the game tells you, it's a dodge maneuver that also recharges your stamina really quickly. Lastly, you are playing a AAA blockbuster action film, approach it as such.
>>
>>743835815
Headshot -> slide -> melee finisher or quickshot -> slide -> melee finisher. That kills any normal enemy. If you press the melee button when an enemy attack is about to hit you you do a counter. Switching weapons or the camera side cancels animations. Leon's first chapter starts slow. Put QTEs to finish automatically. If you care about lore, it's all in files unlocked by shooting emblems.
>>
>>743836015
The pace is due to every campaign needing to be a complete experience in five chapters, so they had to shove every RE bullshit possible one after the other.
>>
id like it better if you could clear an area of enemies instead of them infinitely respawning i like to clear an area before i leave it
>>
>>743835128
The difference between 5 and 6 for me is that 5 is uniquely a soul-sucking venture, whereas with 6 I can have a bit of fun for every few hours I suffer. I can recall parts like the chinese market with Leon, the chinese mansion with Jake, the building crawl against "not Yawn" with Chris, the catacomb puzzles with Ada, and even a few boss encounters like the cathedral fight with Leon or Chris's final boss that had me going "eh, not bad". Never great, but solid enough for me to remember against the murk of its campaigns. I can also at least appreciate the audacity of its combat systems and cross-campaign storytelling, even if I don't entirely agree with all of its ideas. 5, on the other hand, basically takes 4 (a hit-and-miss game for me) and triples down on all the parts I didn't like, but now you can slog through it with a friend! It's just shitty, microwaved 4 with virtually no appreciable ambition to it. I actually would rather play 6 if I had to pick my poison.

>Jake & Sherry
Love me Jake and Sherry's chemistry and his small character arc, it's the best part of the campaign but his has some of the worst stuff in 6. Snow mobile section, fighting that helicopter from below, ustanak snow section with the worst qte in the existence of qte's, motorbike section.
People always say Chris's campaign is the worst when in relation to all the campaigns is the one with the absolute least qte's, the one that hardly ever takes control away from you unlike Leon's and let's you use the gameplay mechanics the most. His story is also the best.
>>
>>743836958
Chris's campaign on the whole is most in tune with the game 6 is clearly designed to be, though Jake is a campaign of high highs and low lows. I think his third chapter was the only one I enjoyed front to back.
>>
>>743836958
I find Jake to have the better story. Chris seems to just be the guilt he felt over Jill's "death" in Lost in Nightmares turned into a whole campaign. It's alright but very stale storywise. He does have the best campaign though.
