I would consider that as an adult yearning, BUTT I remember looking at guides for Pokémon Red/Blue in game magazines, like how Clefary can be found in Mt. Moon or Ekans at route 4 or Pikachu at Viridian forest, and thinking in awe to myself

"How is it possible to have in a Game Boy game so much? Forest, routes, cities? That game must be gigantic"

>his childhood dream game was clearing gimmicky physics shrines completely detached from the larger world and collecting koroks
Damn your childhood must've been sad

When I was a kid, and even as an adult, I used to keep dreaming about massive virtual worlds where you just roleplay whatever you want, filled with the miracle of mundanity.
Sort of virtual havens for whenever I feel like existing in a cozy mindspace.
The closest I ever got was Animal Crossing New Leaf and heavily modded TES games.
I suppose Hotpot for One demo offers a glimpse of such a world.. that never materialised.

PS1 Final Fantasy games gave me a feeling of adventure no game since has been able to give.

It's a lost art.

For me it was 4-6. Especially 5. Don't know why exactly, but nothing has been able to match those.

Out of those I've only played the DS version of 4 and it was alright but not as good as the PS1 FFs imho.
Which versions of 4-6 would you say are the best?

Is the world concave or a globe pick one.

The DS version sucks a bit of the soul out I think. I've only completely played through the SNES versions so idk. The pixel remasters look close enough and are honestly probably the only way any modern brain could get through them, using the boosts and speed options. Looking back though they weren't THAT great. With those old 2d games your imagination really does do a lot of the heavy lifting, especially when you're young like I was. But I did love what I was seeing and feeling while I played them. And no games do impending end of the world scenarios that you're at the center of better than FF and I love that shit, 6 was really good at that, and 7.

BotW and TotK had such a poor feeling of scale, the world feels so small despite how big it is

>play game I loved as a kid
>I can remember how I felt back then, but can no longer feel it
I'm in my late 30s and all I fucking want is to feel like I'm 12 and it's Christmas again. I know what it was like, and yet nothing, literally nothing, can make me feel the same way.

Rolling and blocking exist. If you're spamming the roll button, that's a skill issue. Parrying is much more rewarding.
>>
>>743827514
Making the shrines a cookie Cutter room detatched from the rest of reality kills the magic a little.
