Is it worth it for vidya?
The only real consideration would be if you want to play h games where you won't want use an OCR in the future. Otherwise, I think translation tools are getting good enough that you don't need it just to play games. If you have other reasons like wanting to live in Japan for a bit or something then go for it though.
Nah, just use OCR, even the shitty ones like the one I'm using give you good enough context on what the moonrunes say.
if Anki is vidya then Fantasy Football is vidya. draft days coming soon lads
We are literally in a world languages mass extinction event where English is displacing everything else. Learning other languages is a pointless endeavor when no one else will use them. Use those few hours a day if you were actually serious on another hobby.

i have 400 reviews everyday dont fall for the jp trap bros
>>743828709Nah, try Cho Aniki instead.
>>743828709Don't fall for the 疑心暗記. Too many retards in language learning act like they HAVE to card every single thing they don't know, or else they don't really know it, but what causes you to really not know words is not reading and listening so you can see and hear those words used in real ways, which creates real, meaningful memories, which makes you actually "know" the things you're learning.
>>743830642even if you live to 200 you will never witness the extinction of any major language spoken today
>>743831092This nigga knowsAnki is good for rote memorization of kana / grammar early on, but like training wheels you need to ditch that shit fast or you'll never make any real progress. Learn the basics and then start reading, watching, playing, listening, whatever so you can engage with the language for real. Look up every word as you read if you have to, it'll take a time but it's the only way to learn.People still doing Anki after 4-5 years are sad creatures who still struggle to read shounen manga because they think 女には目がない means "the woman has no eyes" and 食えない狸 means "inedible raccoon"

How am I supposed to learn grammar now? The last time I tried learning nip it was Tae Kim but now people say he's retarded
>>743837163it still smells of it, especially the color scheme. does it matter? as i said, no, but you had to butt in with your lovely personality that people definitely don't just tolerate.learn some manners, young man.
>>743830243And it's now even better, WITH DRAFTKINGS!

>>743837095残念ながら英語を母語とする人にとっては日本語を身に付けるのが非常に手間のかかる至難の業で、大体は引き合わない
>>743837553Technically all grammar guides are retarded because they try to explain Japanese grammar with English terminology. Tae Kim and the Dictionary of Japanese Grammar are both good resources, but the best teacher is seeing grammar used in context, so don't worry if you can't fully grasp a concept from reading a guide alone.
Sure. Just grab a time machine when you're done. The irony (or at least poetry) if Japanese (and Japan itself) becoming so accessible with the global world is that the barrier between it and the wider world has been erased which has lead to many changes. International outrage merchants are even doing the ragebait thing with Japanese AI translations because it's just another market in our global world. Similarly Japanese media is adapted for a global market becomes the yen is weak and it makes more sense to sell to 8 billion people than 100 million. Still, it's good for your brain and aging to learn a new language so it's probably a better language than most.

>>743837553I learned up to N1 level on my own using a combination of Tae Kim, RTK1, Core series Anki decks and text hookers with untranslated VNs ages ago. I teach and translate for a living now, though I did also end up majoring in the language after getting N1. It's over a decade since I took a look at the book, so I can't tell you how it compares to other newer materials or if it has some fucky explanations I'd now disagree with. However, I recall it going about teaching grammar in a much more sensible order than the usual classroom books, since it starts with plain conjugation instead of polite desu-masu form. Starting with polite language is retarded, since masu-form itself is conjugated from plain form. Most students end up learning the polite conjugations first because they're easier and teachers want to make sure their students speak properly to strangers, but then they have the extra hurdle of having to conjugate masu-form back to plain form, before conjugating it to some other form. Plain form conjugations are a bit complex in terms of rules, but they're the basis for all other conjugations and structures, so it makes more sense to memorize them first. In general, I recall the book being pretty good about grouping up related topics and teaching them in one go. For example, instead of teaching just one type of conjugation (such as verb negative form), then fucking off to some completely unrelated topic for several chapters, it teaches all the related conjugations (in this case: non-past, past, negative, negative-past forms) in one go, with neat conjugation tables to go along with it. Big downside of the book is that there's no exercises, so you have to practice shit yourself. What I did was writing down a few notebooks' worth of notes, then reading through them again and again until I memorized most shit. After Tae Kim, RTK1 and Core series Anki decks it's just about consuming media until you can read anything without crutches.

>>743841562>decypher
>>743842040Just disable new cards for several days or even weeks and review old stuff bit by bit at a manageable pace. Even if you've forgotten most old cards by now, it's easier to memorize them again compared to your first time. If you feel like you need to "catch up", then you're adding new cards at a pace that's too fast compared to your available time and motivation. Also, make sure you're also doing something else aside from Anki, like reading or grammar practice, so it's not all just mindless grind.
