How long do you realistically believe Nintendo will support the Nintendo Switch brand? Their previous Brand the DS lasted from 2004 to 2020 when the 3ds got discontinued which is a 16 year span. The Wii brand lasted from 2006 to 2017 when the WiiU got discontinued which is just 11 years. The Wii brand lasted a lot shorter compared to the DS brand. The Switch brand began back in 2017 and has been around for 9 years now, next year on the brand's 10th anniversary the switch 1will be discontinued but only in Europe. I have a good feeling that this might be Nintendo's longest running brand because switch 2 might last another decade making the Switch brand have a great 20 year ish lifespan unless Nintendo continues with the switch brand and make a switch 3.

I think it has a chance to last 20 years, more than the DS had, due to being a hybrid. It brought Pokemon to home consoles and mainline Zelda/Mario to portable, that's already a lot. I hope there is no Switch 3, I'd like them to innovate again and make snoys and xisters even more butthurt, but I'm mainly happy Nintendo is still a honest to god japanese company, even if gamefreaks has been dropping the ball. Can't wait for the mainline Zelda and Mario games on the Switch 2, and by can't wait I mean I can wait, because I'd rather have them taking their time and delivering something as cool as BotW and Odyssey were on release.

Technically speaking isn't the Gameboy brand the longest running currently? Because Gameboy came out in 1989 and the Game Boy Advanced was discontinued in 2010 which is 21 years!

It'll last as long as people desire handhelds to be 3/4 of a home console.
The DS/Wii split existed because the DS offered developers an option to make and release games targeting fidelity from ~2-3 generations before the current home console gen for 2/3 the price. This continued until the Switch, which itself is essentially a slightly unpowered, portable Wii U in terms of power.
The Switch 2 is basically a PS4++ more than it is a PS5-- because of its mature DLSS graphical pipeline.

The fundamental change here was that Nintendo made a handheld to make games with fidelity standards of about 1 gen earlier, but it can give you the home console experience of earlier gens on the TV, on the go, and it can support current gen ports paired down for the "3/4" target (e.g. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Monster Hunter Wilds). This is only possible because advances in power are getting more incremental and less fundamental, PC has muddied the waters in terms of home gaming, and handheld is the only meaningfully different gaming box you can buy now.

If the rumors are true Switch 2 could be the last console Nintendo is ever going to make...

I'd also like them to try something new, but I just don't see an excuse to not make Switches forever; make that their PlayStation. Why would they give up on their most successful business model? Also, there isn't a creative "blue ocean" guy like Iwata in charge anymore, the current CEO is a pure "line go up" guy, under him I doubt they'd ever come up with something crazy like the DS or Wii (or even the Switch which was also Iwata's idea)

It might actually beat the famicom brand because that brand lasted from 1983 to 2003 when the super famicom in Japan got discontinued which is exactly 20 years.

I agree that the Switch should be their mainline from now. The premiere mainstream gaming handheld that sets the bar all other offerings on the market. Do you like your Steam library and want more battery? Companies will use the Switch family as a baseline for features to beat. The Steam Deck exists only because the Switch showed everyone that handheld meaningfully exists with phone gaming and gachas.
People forget that after the 3DS and Vita, market execs and people alike thought that FGO and Azur were going to destroy handhelds forever.

Switch 2 IS tendos last console.
By 2035 - 2040 gaming industry will be something else entirely, that is, if the planet can savely make it to those years, with ww3 on the horizon Im not too sure. Either itll be some hyper futuristic vr or playing games in our minds / glasses or it collapses entirely with the planet

I’m pretty sure only Americans think this. People in China are pretty optimistic about the future.

Longer than Playstation. It's never gonna go away.

To be honest, I'd rather them innovate by bringing a gimmick to the Switch 3 rather than making a completely different one entirely. For example, even on Switch 2, they could backport the entire DS/3DS library by rotating the screen 90 degrees and selling a branded stylus:tm: and plastic grip peripheral combo

This. I’d like to add that many countries like the UK, South Africa and Brazil would gladly welcome the apocalypse so the future is something to look forward to
